I personally like the Dominix very much. I'm a droner and the drone bay on him is great.
If you use other weapon types than Hybrid, then don't buy it.
I use Hybrids and i've had many Dominixes. They do an acceptable damage with the right skills when using 425mm railguns, and you can fit 5 of them using 2 or 3 powergrid mods.
The Dominix is the cheapest of all battleships, and it has one great advantage over the Megathron, which is the 5th medium slot.
I recommend it, but i don't recommend buying it today. Market prices are still to high, and they are lowering fast. I would wait two or three weeks before buying one.
Remember, if you're going to use a Dom, then train Drones, Hybrids and Gall bship skill to level 4. Then it starts to get worth it..

Edited by: Rod Blaine on 06/01/2004 11:05:08 Domi's are quite nice, They can be shield or armor tanked quite well and can be used for short range ew/drone/hybrid combinations in pvp even. Downside is low cap on them.
We have an original BP. Dont know if we have any on the market now tho.
p.s. Dominix will get some love when the repair drones and other specialised drones come ingame along with the extra drone control skill that allows for more drones to be controlled. A dominix will then be a good support platform for 0.0 battles with no statons near.

The folks at Shadow Legacy have a Dominix BS they are trying to sell. Contact Nightshadow or Bralx ingame for more information on it. It is a pretty nice ship. Shame I use it only for mining
Drone capacity is pretty nice, too bad there is no skills available to release them all out at once.
I would wait until MAgacyte prices go down, although I saw some for sale on market yesterday for 15k or so (pre patch prices).
Ship prices are still UNREASONABLY inflated as mineral price is down to pre-patch levels (that means dominix should not cost 70mln but 60m-)...
Good luck. Your Heavy Neutron Blaster II perfectly strikes Serpentis Chief Sentinel, wrecking for 660.4 damage.

You can release all drones at once.
Select all, then CTRL+launch
ie hold down CTRL when you right click and select launch. It will deploy all the drones you can use in one go. Nothing to see here .... move along. |

No need to hold down CTRl fwiwbtw.
Just select all then right click over one drone and "launch" - they will all go , up to the maximum number you can control.

Mega prices might go down but not by much. Zyd prices on the other hand, continue to climb. The prepatch excuse that mega is so hard to mine because you need to get to a bistot belt 20-25 jumps away never held true for Zydrine, whose ores can be found a few jumps away out into non empire space---yet Zyd prices have climbed much faster than mega prices. In fact, while Mega prices are only 1.6X before CCP fixed the giant secure can prices (where people are getting their mega from by buying them from the npcs), zyd prices are still climbing and are around 4X over their November prices.
0.0 remains as hostile as ever. There are too many pirates and regional wars out there, and you know have to deal with super NPC mobs. That can assure that mega and zyd prices (and ship prices) will never fall as low again, which by the way, seems to be one of CCP's own intentions.
Also there are too many people flying around doing missions nowadays, so there is also less people sitting down mining and making stuff. With less producers, it's not a buyer's market but a seller's one. That means they can dictate prices and add margins.
One more thing. If you really need a ship now, go do it. A Dominix is a ship I consider to be a money maker. If Dominix prices are like 70 million now, are you hoping that in one month, it will fall down to 50 million again?
In that one month I can tell you I can make much more than that 20 million difference. Heck I can recover that difference in a few days. You have to consider that alternative cost which is your cost for not using that ship during that time frame.
Do realize that one thing---after Castor, you can also make much more money than ever before. In fact, you can make money even faster. That's why the scale of making money pre-Castor and post Castor is quite different. Just the bounties and the mission rewards are considerably greater, which is something you take account if you use your BS in hunting.

Slithereen is right there. The ships are more expensive, but we can all earn more isk as well.
And about releasing all you drones. The point the guy that posted that comment was trying to make is that the dominix's cargo hold is so big it can hold more then twice the drones you can use. This means that when mining you cannot deploy all mining drones for example, but only your max amount. The rest of your drones space is then dedicated to heavies and you need to swap teh drones to release the heavies.
Once new drone control skill are released that allow you to control more drones you could possibly use all drone space in the ship for drones you can actually release and control all at a time. _______________________________________________

By 'release all drones at once' I mean more than maximum of 10 (well, I reached 8 and not training it higher, waste of time) you can control now *sigh*.

Aa to 'recover' premium on Dominix I think you're a bit off the mark here. Dominix has only one trurret more than Thorax, otherwise best cruiser miner.
Unless you go to 0.0 (who does these days? hehe) or do PvP, Thorax is much more economical choice... For 0.0 I would take Thorax instead of Dominix anyway, b/c once NPCs get at ya it doesn't matter what ship you fly... I'd rather pay 2MLN instead of 25MLN for insurance on a ship Your Heavy Neutron Blaster II perfectly strikes Serpentis Chief Sentinel, wrecking for 660.4 damage.

Mining in a Thorax is like some kind of punishment from hell! I have a Dominix which I bought not long pre-castor. I now virtually don't use it because I havn't mined for a while and can't be bothered with the travel times. I guess this would apply to any Battleship I had though so just ignore me

The Dominix is an excellent ship for almost anything you'd want to do. Pre-castor i used it mostly for npc hunting with Tachs, now i've switched to Annode mega neutrons and i use it mostly for tanking and runnning agent missions. It may not be the fastest ship out there, but with proper skills/outfitting, my cruising speed is 400m/s and my MWD speed (which can be maintained almost indefinately) is 3km/sec.

I have a dominix and I have never used it for mining. I've mined with an Imicus to buy my thorax, then used my thorax to buy my megathron, then I mined with my megathron to buy my dominix. The Megathron has never had any guns mounted to it, only miner IIs. I bought the Dominix specificly for NPC and minor excourt duties in unsecure space. So far I like best to tank out the dominix. Works good for PvP defense and for the occasional run into a belt to raise hell with the local NPCs. Tanked out its best to have more close range guns then rails provide. Or with a MWD and an overdrive or two I use mostly 425mm rails. I really only use MWD on my dom if I am in empire space making lots of jumps.
I can control 9 heavy drones and thats all that fills my drone bay. 20 heavy drones with a little extra space if I come across some laying free in space.
I would agree with anyone that wants to use a Dom for mining. Mining in that thorax was hell. 2 or 3 CPUs just to run the miner IIs then the rest cargo expanders doesn't leave any room for a full cycle, moving ore every 20 seconds gets very tiring when shooting for a 100 mill bs, and now they are 160 mill so thats another week or 2 of hell..
GL, Dominix's own, and Megathrons are fun.. Get em both :)

Dominix is one of the weaker battleships IMO. It's sort of like the Typhoon, I guess, a niche ship, though it's overshadowed now by better battleships.
Dominix used to be very popular, but then the Megathron got some really nice boosts, so the Dominix really has no role what so ever now.
Drone space is nice, but most battleships can easily live with the 1500m3 drone bay. There's really no huge advantage to a HUGE drone bay, drones are usually not targetted often, it's a lot easier to destroy the ship to get them to stop shooting at you. =P
It is the cheapest battleship out there, and it does have a good slot loadout. I really couldn't recommend a Dominix though. If you are really strapped and can't afford a Megathron, it's an okay ship, but a Megathron is way way better.
If you are looking for the best tier1 battleship, it's probably the Scorpion. If you aren't into PvP though, don't bother, Scorpions are rather crappy unless in the hands of a competent PvPer who knows what he's doing. ------

Well I am strapped for isk, so I bought the dominix to mine in untill I get the isk for a mega or a tempest. So it will be a minning vessel; I too mined in a thorax for awhile and it hurt. Glad to get out of it.

Ive set-up my dom weird until prices are gone down enough for me to buy apoc but even now its not all that bad for combat.
ive got 4x1400's (3 pg's tho) and with a dmg mod, tracking mod and tracking computer i can get some consistent 250+ dmg shots with occaisonal wrecking. good for tanking too cause the low slots mean all your cap can be used for shield mods like hardeners and boosters as your proj weapons dont use squat.

yeah, a projectile domi can actually be a nice ship since it has good tanking posibilities.
Thought of using that too but am now hooked on the mega with blasters.

dominix is a spiffy lil ship, cheap, tuff, and can do most things if your a good pilot. if your gonna mine and your strapped for cash, get an armageddon, its 5 mil more and u can run another miner2 easily with a 2500 drone bay. use a dominix if u want to go hunting, mining, cruising or whatever.
