I read in a Nvidia Mag that Eve was getting a Direct x10 patch sometime in the near future.Just wondered if anyone else had read/heard the same. Would be cool if it did, so fingers crossed here.

The plan is to retain the current engine (henceforth known as 'classic', and write a new one, of which there will be 2 versions, DX9 and DX10.
Meaning you'll be able to play right up to your hardwares capabilities, which frankly, I commend CCP for.
Now if only they'd make the DX9 engine look good... =/

tbh since Microsoft and the music industry has been able to gain US courts to their side and is about to pass a new law giving life time sentences for pirating Windows or music or even several years just for attemting to pirate(ie download half a song) i think its real good time for both the gaming industry and hardware to move from Microsoft!
Team up with grafix card manufacturers and other operating system companies(Linux tbh) and change from the corrupt mega company to a free and untainted platform witch is not overloaded with anti-copy and piracy tools that breaks the gamers games and prevents them from having image copies on the lan computer to safe keep CDs at home etc.
It is time for hard fact, and hard fact is that the US legal system is finaly showing a corruption that has existed for years, the ritch control the system the ritch make their own laws and try to enforce them onto the whole world. This is serious as its worse the the poor countries corrupted by powerfull leaders, they wont send some kid to life for making a copy of some software!
Only the gaming and entertainement industry has the power to show that this is not right! companies should never influence a system made to upphold justice! it is there for the people not the corperations.
Microsoft has its advantage with DX10, to make a worldwide move from Microsoft and its corruption it brings to legal systems and its attemt to change the worlds justice systems a similar API is needed for Linux. To make that happen you need the grafix card makers support! only way to get their support is to work together as game developers/card makers and operating system guys..
I hope CCP will see how corruption finaly this day (yesterday) has showed itself in the US, and that they will seriously consider scrapping DX10 support and go full Linux support and try to evolve gaming on a different operating system!
Expect to see alot of information on the web these comming days, and expect a real movement to Linux by card makers and game developers once this heats up!
This is a moral issue, do you want to support sutch activeties that will be showing themselves in the comming days? or will you work for moral justice and a fair world where super companies do not control legal systems or entire countries?
I hope CCP will make a stance when this gets into topic the comming months, i hope grafic card manufacturers will follow game developers when they make a stance against this! I hope we will be able to have image copies once again without getting 10 years or life time for having an image of Windows, getting cought by terrorist sniffing programs that should hunt other things then backup games or operating systems.
it is insanity to get drawn into a other countries legal system and forced to comply to their corrupted laws made by supercompanies when your living in other countries!
If you do not know how big influence super companies and US music industry have on the outside their borders there are tons of stories how they forced forreign legal systems to work for them, the biggest most would know is how they managed to get Swedish law system to move against the Torrent tracker site The Pirate Bay. witch is still to this day not doing anything illigal.
The main points of this warning post will show themselves in a few days, i hope your all watching then and seriously consider withrawal of support for sutch insane actions that are about to be taken.
It is normal with life sentences for murder! its accepted and common while disputed. it is NOT normal with life sentences for having image backups, emulating copy righted software on other OS's or simply 10 years for some kid sharing a movie to a friend.
Microsoft/RIAA/music industry have gone to far now, I hope CCP will not support this! wait for info on the web the comming months.. its insane and affects us all as Gamers and moraly Developers!

"Stealing software", that is, infringing copyright, is covered by civil, not criminal law.

I have a feeling what ccp is trying to do will be a failure. It is a nice gesture and really ambitious but maintaining all those different game clients will be crazy. They really should just keep the old crappy game client since people will have a hernia when they drop the old client finally in favor of the new one after it becomes clear its too much work to maintain both.
Just like answering machines, I don't have use for technological wizardry in this day and age of technology. I expect everyone to suffer with me. I pay money for this game and by god I should be able to play it on my i286 all the way into the year 2010. /sarcasm

trust me i wish it was for fun, when sutch insane laws together with what will come in a few days is suggested, the companies behind them should no longer be supported.
Gaming industry should protect their investments, but i doubt they will support the stuff comming ahead.. and i hope CCP wont either and will seriously consider scrapping development on the Windows platform to prove they wont support these kinds of insane stuff..
a move to Linux is the only way i see for game developers to be able to affect, im very sure the future of gaming will change and game developers together with the hardware industry will abandon the companies they long supported when this imo scandal (lack of better words like extreme corruption..) is all over the web.
when its there and proven more stuff will pop up escelating the whole thing, eventualy the moral issues of supporting the comming things will be very very real and it is then CCP needs to decide aswell as many other game developers and the hardware industry weither they should support this or not by making a stance, the easiest way is to switch platform and stop using copy protection methods and a complete sea of other things affecting basicly the whole computer world..
im not laughing.. neither will game developers and basicly everyone thats supporting this stuff when they realize what it is their supporting.. once the tip of the iceberg is visible, you will get to see the rest under the surface when it blows up..

I've seen some screenshots, looks awesome.
As for the copyright stuff...I may be an American. I may have served in it's military, but thank god I live in Mexico now. Long live the Black Market. It's like a real world version of kazaa and bittorrent. I love it. Anything you want, on CD, now, no waiting for a download.
That said, Windows BEGS to be pirated. Who the heck wants to pay all that cash to put a buggy OS with security holes through it like swiss cheese on their PC? It's barely worth the CD it's burned on. People don't buy it because they want to, they buy it because a: it comes on the PC they buy and b: because they don't have a choice because their upper management dweebs don't know what it IS except that "everyone else" uses it.
As for games, I buy the games I play. Full price. I'm a game developer myself, and to pirate the game is only to make poor developers poorer. Oh, that $50 game you bought last week? The developer gets like $5 of that. No wonder CCP runs EVE in the business model that it does! It's brilliant!
Music...why bother? Most of the crap that comes out from the popular studios is just crap spun out to get more $$. Innovation in Music in the recording label sector is GONE. I download tons of free music from www.ocremix.org, tons of MIDI and classic music. Also, a lot of games have wonderful soundtracks to listen to. If I want to hear about shooting cops and what it's like to be under the effects of *******, I'll listen to the radio...for free. kthnx. That said, props to EVE-radio.com! I listen to you guys too sometimes. ;)
So what's left? Movies? Theater for the win. After that, I'll generally buy the DVD. Sometimes because of where I live I can't get the movie in english, so I'll see it in the theater and the DVD won't be out for 2-3 motnhs, so I DL the english version and watch it. Once the DVD is out, if it was good, I'll usually buy it. DVDs aren't bad at $20-30.
So in short the big offenders are the music industry and Microsoft itself. I'm watching closely a project that allows DX10 applications to run on MacOSX, Linux and WinXP. That will kill Vista for me. No need for it then. And as for Music, who cares? I swear, if the RIAA could, they'd sue and sue until they were the only ones allowed in the world to make music.
So, having found a way around or a means of accommodation with the various areas of interest, does this make me a pirate? I certainly hope so. YARR!! I AM A PIRATE! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- RABBLE! RABBLERABBLE!! MMORPG: Many Men Online Role Playing Girls |

Mircosoft are massive company so whats there $$$ going to be liek in the billions. Almost everyone uses them. I don't see mircosoft coming after one dude. Anyways even if they want to make this law they would then have to ask other governemtn liek the high courts in the uk to get them tried in the US. Its more moeny than its worth. Same with the mousic company's there billion $$$ worth it seems album are still more popular. I own all my bands albums and then tranfer them to my computer so copying just so i can have them on a crap old disk instead of losing or damaging the old one mean im a
I would love it if CCP made EvE go onto linux. I find linux is prob the best OS and far better than that window program that it somehow a OS. Mac is 2nd
Go on eve make gamer love you for year and put wow to shame go linux :) |

Obviously the Dx9 compatability would be killed at some point, but supporting Dx9 and 10 isnt all that hard in reality.
Every half life 2 engine based game can run on Dx8.1 and 9.0 because they put in textures for both.
The underlying game mechanics stay the same, its only the graphics rendering that changes.
In reality Eves graphics hardly change, only with new ships/items has anything been added.

From what I have heard this is also a MAJOR overhaul to the engine in general. So this just might help with the nasty lag issues as the code will be cleaned up. I do agree with CCP supporting DX9 and 10.
DX9 I think will be used ALOT More then DX10 for at least the next 2 years. I doubt very much very many of us will be willing to upgrade to Vista before then.
