i have always thought that a banck will play a big part in EVE, especially for players that loose money in ships or when they get killed. bancks could offer loans, savings...etc basically if i have say 10M and i dont want to touch it, i will put it in the banck and choose how long i want to keep it in there, e.g. if i leave it in the banck for a month i will get 10% inetrest when i get it out, but i wont be able to touch that money until the month is over. another benift you could get is to open an account for corporations, e.g. lets say the corporation wants to save money to get a certain starbase structure, or frighters. each member of the corporation will pay a certain ammount of money to the account every day, in time that money will rise and they will be able to get what ever they saved the money for. another use will be, you could tell the banck to keep all the money that goes in it for a month and at the end of the month each member will get a share of the total ammount of money collected. you would have the option of how much you will all pay into the account and how often you want to pay it, when you accept the deal, that money will automatically be taken out of your wallet and into the account. this type of account could also be craeted for single players. there are many other uses for a banck, i just cant think of it atm.

I also once thougth that having banking services. But I eventuly turne dthem down before posting. And that was because ofve all the exploits that could be possible with loans and such. And that for otehr things you mentioned their is the corp wallet. Interest is also a bad Idea since it is a money injection into the market, basicly money out ofve thin air wich would be bad for the overall economie. Not to mention that rich people with 100 billion would get 10 Billion per month. Thats realy gonna imbalace things. It would probably create a situation were items kept getting more and more expensive and eventuly were ISK is basicly worthless and only item trading is rentable. Wich is why i think they do not have this in eve. For some things it would be sweet at times. But overall it would be bad.

Your wallet is your bank account for most of the things you're talking about.
Earning interest from NPCs is a horrible idea as EadTaes mentioned. Earning interest by loaning money to other players/corps is already in the game, but like everything in EVE, it requires a degree of trust that they'll pay you back in good faith.

NPC banks is not a good idea IMO.
But if you would like to make a corporation to function as a bank or a Pawnbroker - it is a great idea. And you can do it right now.

well, no one will loose money because they will all pay the same ammount, e.g. someone with 100M will pay lets say 100,000 every day and someone with 10 will pay the same ammount, no one will pay more than the other. if the player dosent have the money to pay into the account, then they will automatically be thrown out. also to help richer players get more profit they could set the account up to pay more into it and get more out of it. as for borrowing money, to prevent people from not paying it back, the banck will have access to the wallet, so everytime you make some money it will automatically go out of your wallet and back into the account.
