So me and a couple of friends started playing EVE a couple of weeks ago. We started a corp and agreed to be a merc corp later on when we have enough SP. Ive wanted to PVP since day one but the rest want to wait until they get better skill wise. So anyway, two days ago i was so freakin bored with missions that i felt like jettison myself out the window. Me and another friend (4 day old char) decide that we should go out and loose our PVP virginity. I get in my BB and my friend in a Kestrel and we head out to low sec. Long story short, after a couple of hours we found a suitable target and pew pew was on.
Now im in love. I had no plans becoming a pirate before but if thats what it takes to PVP early on, f'ck it. Im on baby!

I still find it hard to understand how ppl can be content with missions for years on end with no pvp. each to their own and everything and whatever ppl want to do they should do obviously but i hope more ppl like yourselves try their hand at pvp. it would be a great day to go into low sec to find it full to the brim with ppl just gagging for a fight in small groups.

I was a total carebear until 2 weeks ago, when my corp was war dec'd. After a week of chasing enemies, I fell in love with PVP, despite the fact i lost 5 ships.
So I may not actively seek it out, I will no longer run from a fight if one finds me, regardless of how outnumbered I am.
Bring it.

Providing you can afford to replace frig losses you can start pvp right away. No need to wait for improved skills, some of the most important skills you'll learn from pvp are those that you won't find in a skill book.

Same here. I run missions sometimes and do a lot of production and such, but I deliberately do it in low sec and always have because you literally can't escape the PvP. If a pirate enters local, I have to flip on the scanner and start looking for probes. Even that is pvp, me versus the covops pilot.
Without at least some risk, there's no excitement or real accomplishment in things, even mission-running.

I'd rather have people farming it up on missions/ratting/plexes... and then coming in to low sec with their faction/officer/deadspace fit battleships rigged with CCCs, coming in all egotistical like, acting like they're gonna wtfpwn everything. Then we're there to liberate them from the shackles of their expensive mods.
Yessir cap'n, that'd be t'life, arrrr.
I got a buddy who is a hardcore highsec missions only, running around in a Domi with deadspace and some officer loot on. We watched Phoenus's "Vindication" and said "uhh, not impressed".
A mod hijacked my sig, but I ruined it :( /wrists

exactly. that is pvp. and you essentially win when u get where u want without the dirty piwate getting you. whatever pvp you do is great fun. as i say each to their own but i would encourage as many ppl as possible to come to low sec or 0.0 and try their hand at something vs actual players instead of little computer controlled drones

PVP is the way to go really, pirating (imo) by far being the most entertaining.
Used to run missions for half a year without even having a single pvp fight. Was bored one day (wasn't something unusual really), so i fitted up a rax and headed into a nearby lowsec system. ****ed around a bit, and finally found another rax in a belt. Fight was close as hell, won with less than 50% hull left. Long story short, i fell in love with ze pvp :P

After losing a head full of +3's, when a head full of +3's was a significant chunk of my resources, I decided to wait until I get a jump clone. I'm at 7.82. Maybe you'll blow me up. But you won't be the first if you do.

Edited by: General Coochie on 19/05/2007 11:00:40 Ive seen many people, "Im just gonna get more SP" "Im just gonna get more isk to buy that BS" "I cant PvP now I just got implants" "I need a jumpclone first" "I need to train my learning skills before traning x usefull skill for PvP"
Ive had real life friends playing eve beeing like this, then quitting cause they got boored with it. And all they did was training learning skills for a month, doing some missions and maybe traded a bit.
I think you should tell your friends to all get in frigs like once every week atleast and go try find some PvP.
And gratz to you for finding the fun side of eve. Now bring it to your friends aswell :)

In my understanding, missions, mining, production = source of income for pvp. Trading = market pvp. 0.0 wars, piracy, empire wars = pvp.
I don't understand people spending their entire game time on making isk, and then eventually buying a bigger and shinier toy just to make even more isk. What's the point in that? ---

I've seen it multiple times people advertising that they can get you jump clones for some very low price. Kind of like empire BPO research services. I think you'll need to join their corp for a day or so. Once you make them, they never get destroyed. So why grind any boring missions for some stupid standing for weeks and weeks? Also some time ago before Ev0ke split from D2 they were offering free jump clones at that station in EC-P8R, just one jump into 0.0 from high sec empire. Don't know if that is still the deal. I got some for my alt there since my alt wasn't in a corp that had JC installation available.

for starters, congrats on becoming a pvper. it's fun to kill people. learn how to flip cans and alway carry a warp scram. remember if they are in a mining barge, STRIP MINERS!!! they are great to sell on the market, so flip that can and pray they fire on you. if they don't, free ore. one more thing... some one said we need more anti-pirates. i don't think so. i'm a merc and i have to say pirates a quite nice from where i stand. sure, i might be chasing a war target and fly into a pirate gate camp, but my target was there first, and if he was in a hauler or indus., he's good as dead. so what if i didn't get the kill, that target died. so i say merc to pirate, DAMN THE TORPEDOS AND ONLY SHOOT THE FIRST GUY THROUGH THE GATE!!!!

THE ART OF FLIPPING A CAN must have a warp stab
1: warp belt to belt looking for a miner with unsecured can (no passward) 2: upon finding said can warp off and bookmark can at the same time 3: warp back to can 4: steal shiggity from can 5: jetison shiggity 6: open own can and put the rest of their shiggity into your can
now 1 of 3 things will happen 1: they will shoot you, giving you the right to "defend yourself" 2: they will take it back, giving you the right to "defend your shiggity" 3: they will warp off, FREE SHIGGITY
just be sure to target them and NOT to shoot or warp scram them UNTIL they are flashing red on your overview. http://repo.griefwatch.net/?p=pilot&pilot=Chasm%20Illyaki |

Also a n00b here. Why do you need to make a bookmark and warp back in?

So you can warp in on top of their can (you can bookmark the can itself). You only really need it if you're planning on using a hauler.
A good way to get them to fire on you is thus;
Put their ore in your can. See if they attack or steal it back, if not pop can. See if they attack.
Come back about 1/2 an hour later, repeat. Pretty much guaranteed they'll attack this time.
