Hey,
I have had been playing EVE on my new computer (stats below) for something like a month now. Not once during that time have I not had to worry about randomly crashing to the desktop. No error message, although once i got a driver BSOD, and for a while my system sound would die and EVE would continue playing. I tried new video drivers, both ATI & Omega, I tried new Realtek Sound Drivers, no luck, I have reformatted twice. No Luck. Any Ideas? 
Stats:
Abit IC7-MAX3
->Onboard Sound (Realtek ALC650)
->Onboard Ethernet
Intel P4 3.0 @ 3.28
1024MB Kingston HyperX 3500
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB Sapphire
1 36GB WB Raptor
1 120GB Maxtor (EVE's Drive)
This problem does not discriminate between versions of EVE. Every patch I hope, but am disappointed. Maybe we could also turn this into a list of Quick Fixes?

You have a very nice system, except for the sound - you may want to invest in a nice sound card as the AC 97 has never been known to be uber game friendly. Some people have no problems with it but, in general, it is a low cost solution for motherboard manufacturers to add to their mobo.
Do you remember the BSOD message? Any numbers in that message?

Grrrr.
'AC 97' is not a frickin sound card, it's not even a sound chipset.
It's a standards specification for how such a codec should work. If someone says they have 'AC 97 sound', beat them around the head until they find out what it ACTUALLY is.
And my 'AC 97' sound (CT5880/ES1371 chipset emulating SB PCI 128) is perfectly fine, thankyouverymuch  .

Overcloacking is not Eve-Friendly.
But I don't think that the BSOD it is caused by the overcloaking (because overcloacking usually do CTD, not BSOD).
To me, your problem is either :
-ATI Radeon drivers problem
-Memory problem, especially if you'd tried to tweak their latendy/CAS or their voltage.

The ac'97 is not known to be game friendly? I used over 20 games and not 1 single game bsod on the ac'97...
