So lets get this out of the way, I'm a jerk.
As some people will have seen there has been a stream raising money for charity streaming eve online. The streamers have been using give aways as incentive for people to donate, generally setting goals and saying "if we reach X amount we will hold a give away"
My question/accusation.........Isn't this RMT?!

the money gets donated directly to a charity and doesn't go through the streamers.
also the giveaways are random, donating doesn't improve your chances of winning anything.
so no, not RMT

No I don't believe this constitutues RMT, however I am a little leery of real life/Eve Online charity mixing up. Been here long enough to know the other shoe will drop eventually.    Sincerely hope I'm wrong.
When you see things like walkathon's for Diabetes and if you show up and put up some cash and do the walk for the free t-shirt that was supplied by generous and tax dodging corporations like American ExpressGäó McDonald'sGäó etcetcGäó it's for a good cause but if you wanna be a glass half empty type maybe you just need to consider your own attitude.
The streamers doing what they did this weekend was very selfless and honorable, and in return; the ones who are very small-time like that have 10-15 viewers at best got some serious exposure for their channels.
It was refreshing to see the community side of our group rather than the usual lynch mob. I appreciate your question though dear OP, I've got experience asking hard questions about #b4r.

Not should it be. Was a charitable event from some of the games most frequent content providers. Nothing wrong with that at all. |

These charity streaming events happen from time to time on Twitch. They're not restricted to EvE and all funds raised go directly to the specified charity fund and not to the streamers.

He is right to question it though. A lot of charities are very profitable businesses that hide under a veil of moral altruism that nobody really looks under. There should be no problem asking a few questions about them without getting the ''hurr durr it's a charity you monster'' replies. |

There are many streamers that claim to be raising funds for a charity, yet its very difficult to be sure they arent just pocketing it.
Over the years Ive asked several of them for some proof the funds are going to a charity, and have never receives any proof, instead getting insulted and banned.
Id recommend against contributing to any of these "charity" streams unless you are absolutely certain they are legit.

Sometime back there was some blurry lines on giveaways about whether allowing:
A) Only subbed players to participate
B) Using more than one "token" to participate
Technically, allowing only subbed accounts to participate constitutes RMT.
The player pays the streamer in money in exchange for ingame assets.
An equivalent example would be Dotlan offering a subscription exclusive service regarding access to CCPs intellectual/digital property, which would obviously be RMT.
The issue has since been largely overlooked as far as I know.
Personally, I think the policy should be that all "followers" (which is free and reversible) should be able to participate with one token. Subs only giveaways should not be allowed, per the explanation of how it is RMT above.

This was a valid question. As one of the organisers of the event i looked into all of this before committing myself to this cause. Scaredpanda and Rahne also did their homework.
Not a single cent of any money donated is touched by any streamer involved. Every donation went straight to the charity through a donation site.
Ablegamers from the top down do not pay their staff including the CEO. this is all shown on their website.
The donation to output ratio is also 95%, so the money goes straight where it is needed.

I would also like to say a big thank you to this community for the incredible support of what was achieved. $25K+ was raised and will change the lives of many people.
