Quote: Wouldn't the best (and easiest for CCP) be to let each player set the colors and/or shapes of brackets for his own preferences. Just add it to the Settings UI. Seems the most logical to me. Most other RPGs allow this kind of customization. Why not?
Balmer has an good idea, just throw the settings in one of the tabs on the auto scanner and let the player set color coding that works best for him/her. I havent been on Chaos in a few days, but I can say that Neon Green is not my first pick for corp mates. /:

excuse me if this is a double post... On TQ, in the scanner in auto tab we have led lights showing different scanner options from ship locks to gang member colors... Will the new colors from Chaos brackets show up in the auto scanner also ?

Edited by: Uuldahan on 14/01/2004 15:40:50 Yes these changes are good news but personally I don't like this kind of flashy colors in the dark universe of EVE. Brackets actually are too bright. As said before, it'd be great if players could change things relative to brackets colors.
And about the auto scanner that's becoming more and more customisable, I think the idea that I've seen many times about adding sounds like we add colors is a very very good one

While we are at the subject of changing the brackets, what about making unique brackets for each ship type. That would make it immensly easier to quickly assess what ships are surrounding you. Right now you can only guess (even if you can do that quite consistently with only the size difference) if it's a bs or a cruiser. It would help a bit in combat situations.

so, does this mean that war is/will no longer be just a corp option and an individual player can set another individual players standing to -10 (war) and hunt/fight that individual in secure space (.5 and above) without concord getting involved?

Scanner and bracket colours need to definitely correspond to each other. ____________________________________ Taggart wants YOU. Join TTi! *waves his hand in your face in the jedi way* |

And why not do the same for the local chat window? I mean, when you jump into a sys, the first thing you do is looking at the local chat, and if the pics/names are surrounded by the same colours of the brackets, this would give an almost instant-read of the situation, without messing with the laggish info window. Maybe too fast a read?...

Local chat should be treated as an extension of the scanner. It really ought to be a two in one kind of thing. ____________________________________ Taggart wants YOU. Join TTi! *waves his hand in your face in the jedi way* |

Edited by: Daneel on 19/01/2004 12:45:50 I dont get it? We have already been given the tools to assign colors in the autoscanner, why not use the same colors for the brackets? And why not show a series of dots for the whole state? http://www.lysator.liu.se/~jonma/Eve/Banner/SABanner_2small.png |

Agreed, if the Local chat window can tell you whos there... it should be able to tell you their relationship to you. as it is, only buddys have any markings. -----------------------------------------------

Quote: <Muaddid> follow up question on alliance/war system : Could we could at least get the colors by standing effects in an hotfix patch ? even without alliances and wars, it would GREATLY help in fleet fights for both sides <TomB> Yes!
RAWR ! cant wait for that hotfix on TQ ! even without the whole complex alliance/war system, just being able to color other corps is going to make a huge improvement !
thumbs up for TomB ! now get that patch to TQ plz :D

Edited by: KIAHicks on 27/01/2004 16:18:33 Edited by: KIAHicks on 27/01/2004 16:17:41 I'm in two minds as to whether all in the gang should show as blue, or whether corp members even in gang should show as green still.
My reasons are based on the following.
If you shoot a gang mate, or perform any action considered agressive, would concord respond in empire space?
If the answer is yes, then corp MUST be green and everyone else in gang can be blue.
Otherwise the interface is not distinguishing between gang members you can target and aid with sheild transfers or afford to take splash damage etc.
If the answer is no, then ignore all the above, as having everyone in gang blue then makes perfect sense :)
BTW when you say red for outlaws, I take it you mean -5.0 or less security standing, and not players with just -ve or bounties? If its the former, then thats cool. If not I wouldn't even bother adding a colour for it as you can't do anything about it in empire anyway, and if your in 0.0 you don't really need the colours to tell you whether you can shoot or not :P
PS If it isn't yet possible to customise these colours to our own personal preferences, it would be nice to have this ability in a future patch... Although I'd rather see this functionality in with or without customisation, then have a later patch to add customisability.

One question,
Has anyone who is colour blind tried out the new colour schemes?
I am colour blind and can't see the difference between green and yellow.
Was wondering if anyone had any problems with it so far?
Personally I would have prefered... blue = friend (i.e. greater than 0 personal/corp standing) green = corp member red = enemy (i.e. less than 0 personal/corp standing)

Very good. Colour blindness is a often brought up issue for interface designers, but its so rare that a colour blind person ever says anything that it often gets forgotten anyways. Therefore it should be player configurable, like the scanner colours. ____________________________________ Taggart wants YOU. Join TTi! *waves his hand in your face in the jedi way* |

There is a simple solution to the colorblind thing, in the US NAVY we use a thign called NTDS, its atactical data system, and it was one color only. The way we told things apart was extreemly easy:
Triange is hostile, square is unknown/nuetral circle is friendly. Conbine this with the current color schemes, and this is a winning combo!
if you have any questions, please contact me as there is more to it as well, i would be more than willing to help the devs with this sort of information.

Very good ideas in this thread. One of the most important thing is that you should be able to select the colors you want like in the autoscanner and combine that with diffrent shapes for the bracket. Maybe even a small skull at the outlaws bracket The other thing that is important should be that the name of the person in the autoscanner and local should represent what the bracketcolor is set to as many people have pointed out. Lets hope these changes make it TQ as soon as its been tested.
