The time has come to update our forum software, and over the course of the next month we'll be transitioning to using Discourse based forums for a more modern look and feel.
This means that over the course of the next month, these forums will be retired, and we'll start to use a new venue for official announcements and discussions.
Take a look at this dev blog for more information on the new forums, their functionality, and how to use them!
Feedback can be posted here, or over on the new forums!

I'll stick to these for now..
The new ones just look awful, cluttered, difficult to read and sort out visually.
Just about everyone using them has had to zoom out because of it.
I don't agree with doing away with the sub categories we have on here either, it'll just make things harder to find as good information is lost in the dross.
All in all, **** poor effort. My last accounts sub ran out around 72 hours ago, it's looking like my forum reading will be coming to an end as well which is a pity as I enjoyed browsing them.

What sub-categories do you feel are missing?
Speak up, and perhaps we can add them

Skill Discussions is important but seems to be missing entirely. I did find the rest but only after checking 3 times :/

We now have a skill discussion section
Easy as pie!
Part of this whole process is working with the community to make the forums a more functional and streamlined place for discussions.
If you're on the fence about using them because there's things you don't like, dive into the feedback section and give us some pointers on what you'd like to see.
The idea is to build this new venue WITH the community, not FOR it.

It was hard to find Crime and Punishment when I was looking for it. Did eventually see where you'd hidden it (in a subfolder of General Discussion, one place I basically never go).

Losing the ability to easily see corp and alliance affiliation is not an improvement.
The divisions between posts are much less clear than they were in the old forums - a neat trick since the old forums already have a bad case of grey-on-grey design.
At the moment everything's an eyebleeding soup of animated images but perhaps that will die down as time goes by and merely be slightly worse than now.
It's all a horrible mess of third-party Javascript. Yes, I'm a NoScript-using paranoid. |

Can you please fix it so Internet Explorer 11 users can log on to the new forum. I press the confirm button having selected my character and nothing happens.
Missing topics Character bazaar. Is there going to be one seperate in the market place?
Thanks
I expect to get this post deleted or locked. So much for freedom of expression.

Something, something, better at mobile devices. You got me here. Been away for a week. Checking T3C thread on mobile. Reading something at old forum is PITA. We will whine at start, then we will adapt. Nothing breaking the game here.

I'm not saying that ain't a plus point, but also as far as I can tell, worse on non-mobile devices - like the computers we all presumably have to play EVE on. |

Whole internet is going into mobile friendly you can't stop this trend. Judging from what they post about new forums nothing will change. Official forum must have strict rules otherwise they may propablly be sued. I started adapting to reddit for few months, my brain even started to filter trash posts from there. It's a bad source but with better information flow.

I would really like to see the little blurb when you mouseover a topic title. Not sure why you would remove that. It's very useful.

How to switch off unecessary categories? I don't use 3/4 of them. Or subcategories? Unlimited scrolling on the post? Good luck with threadnaughts... Visited new forum feedback category and went back here, very user unfriendly.

CCP Falcon wrote:What sub-categories do you feel are missing? Speak up, and perhaps we can add them All of them, it's much neater having lots of small links divided in sub categories. If I click Eve forums right now I can see about 15-25 sub categories. I read through the lists and know where I want to go.
I went to new forums and 4 take up the entire page and they're just everything mixed together. How am I supposed to know where anything is. |

I'm not trying to affect the whole internet by posting here. I'm trying to affect the EVE forums, where - unlike the rest of the Web - we know essentially everyone reading them has access to a non-mobile device with a large screen.
Of course, I don't expect it to make a difference, but it would be senseless not to give feedback. |

As I have posted a few times on the new facebook forums, the following needs to be altered:
1. Removal of the infinite scrolling. This is a forum, not facebook. 2. Implementation of pages, or do you enjoy reading novels on a scroll? 3. A clear distinction between posting content and the actual forum itself. (much like the current forums) 4. More distinction between threads on the forum 5. Better separation and colour management between sub forums.
The reasons for the above are this:
1. A forum by its definition a place where people (and the odd bot) can post ideas and thoughts in a public space and also where people can read the content in a manner that is typical of human standards. Infinite scrolling is not a native way for people to read information in a concise manner. Yes, BookSpace of MyFace introduced such nonsense to the human realm, but it was never designed for someone to sit there and scroll through the veritable posts, comments and cat pictures to get to the bottom.
Its a design of laziness. A fact that as arisen partly from programmers trying to make their own lives easier, with less "code bloat" with having to program in lines of code to establish the page system, and also stems from the human desire to have information NOWNOWNOW without the ideal of something called "waiting". It doesn't help that a pure golden post could be located deep down in the infinite wall of noise and debate, and become lost due to that infinite nature. Yes, the new forums have a "bookmarking" feature, but that is never helpful if you never knew the post was there in the first place.
2. Pages are a defining feature of the current wave of forums. They break information down into more managed sizes, so that we can understand them better. Its how we currently store ideas and knowledge into physical formats, and even certain digital platforms do it as well (infamously the click-bait 15-page sites). It is what we are used to as a species, and should continue to use because it works, and call me old fashioned, but we shouldn't fix what isn't broken under the guise of attempting to jump ahead of the competition with an idea which will not work.*
3/4/5. These fall under the same idea, but i split them up to make the point a bit more clear. the New Forums appearance is a jumbled mess. Whilst efforts have been made to make it a bit more clear between each area, it still falls over itself, ending up looking like a bit of a mess with little separation between each forum. Also, the whole idea of a forum index page should have the effect of being like a contents page of a book - everything is listed and easily found. The Discourse style of forum layout does not match that trend fully, with the user having to go down and then across to find their topic of choice rather than the standard Down-Down of a typical forum.
So a final message for CCP: You are being premature in terminating the posting access to these forums and moving onto a system that is unfriendly. Please reconsider your move to the Discourse system and look elsewhere.
*I have already investigated this aspect, which under the current Discourse version is impossible. It might not even ever get implemented.

Can you create an optional skin for the new forum that can be chosen - so it'll look and behave like this one? Will be very appreciated.
It's not bad, but i don't like it - perhaps i'm just getting too old for this new shiny "mobile friendly" designs. |

i must admit that i rarely post on the forums nowadays but i regularly read whats going on. Sadly with the release of the new forums, that will end. Personally, they look horrible. they are too shiny, too clean, and less easy to read/find what im looking for. A definite backwards step for me.
