Yes, you can give him the ship. If you are docked in the same station you can right click on the item and "trade" it to him. Note you should only trade with people you trust.
You can also "contract'" the item to him if you are not in the same station or logged in at the same time.
Welcome to Eve.
p.s. The suggestion above for the "new player" sub-forum is a good idea for new players. |

it's really not a good idea to mine in a tayra. Unless you are one of those persons who enjoy watching paint dry. Also there are much better mining lasers than the civilian mining laser. You can only mount one of those because the tayra does have only one turret hardpoint.
You definitely should do the carreer agent missions to get an idea on the things you can do in eve. You will also receive the best small mining ship (venture) during this exercise.
Please be advised that each and every ship has a certain role to fulfill and excels in this role. Take a look at the ships bonuses to get an idea what it is designed for.

Has 2 high power slots but only 1 turret hard point. Get a Venture and be AdVENTURous with 2 turret hard points and a double yield bonus. Get meta 4 miners as soon as you can. Civi ones are just barely adequate for use as slow torture devices, But hey I have 26,321 of them =). Imagine If I could fit them all to one ship and group them. I could alpha some of the largest rocks. |

Heya newbro,
There are so many different ways to make ISK, and almost all of them are better than mining, so try to wean yourself off that ASAP.
The best advice I was given was to leave highsec, so that's what I am passing on to you. Find a large nullsec alliance, they are almost all new player friendly and they can teach you how to survive, and leave Empire space. Eve is not a solo game, and if you park that hauler in a highsec belt and mine, you are going to die. Horribly.
And while PVP is the best part of Eve, getting ganked while mining in highsec surely is not. Mining in highsec will make you rage quit, and we would rather have you stay and learn.
Anything you can do in highsec can be done in null/low for greater reward.
And don't be afraid to chat people in game, especially null dwellers. Most Eve players that are not bot-aspirant will try to help you. Take advantage of their hard earned knowledge, and make it your own. Just make sure the people you are getting advice from are not the scared type that are too afraid to leave highsec. You don't want to take advice from highsec carebears, they really don't understand Eve.
Every alt I own has a red safety, this has brought my friends much laughter.

thank you that is some great advice...
i will be leaving the safety my my station where i started. i just wanted to get some cash ready while i wait for my brother to get his profile up and running and he his bringing some other people onboard so we will form a small group and work together in mining and battle. and we explore.. i think i will sell the tayra and use heron. unless i have enough to get venture ship. i have been skill training as well so when i do go out and explore i have some skills to help out.. |

Initially the Venture is bar none the best mining ship you'll have access to because of the mining yield bonus and the 5000m3 ore bay. Any better mining ships require your account being in paid status (omega) to be usable and require some additional training. As for a good pair of early mining lasers to use? EPS-Gaussian has better mining yield and a 16k range.
That said, you can make significantly better ISK doing distribution or security missions depending on whether or not you feel like dealing with combat. Blowing up an entire mission and coming back out with a destroyer fit for salvage duty can rake in some pretty decent ISK. Especially when you move onto dealing with anomalies, faction spawns, and the occasional DED site. |

hi thank you for that info..
im about to look for a venture ship.. and i will add 1 or 2 eps-gausian lazers.. and when i have enough isk's i will buy the best weapons and shilds i can get before i go out ship hunting. and salvaging.. i was born for confrontation.. and blowing up an enemy ship or 2 will be such fun..
i do like to jump into battles, but im waiting for my group to get bigger. so i will mine and increas my skills.. im might sneak in a few battles that i know i can win before my brother and hte others are ready |

They have a very nice and cheep dedicated mining ship called the venture that have major bonuses to mining and can defend itself with drones from small rats. I love the little ship and have 4 set up for different task.
The first career missions in or around your starter system should have given you a good amount of cash, a few good skills needed to get you started, a few ventures, and I believe almost a full set(or two) of frigates for your race for free.

i sold the Tayra for 1m isks.. the venture is ok. but the cargo hold is small . i have the heron which has 400 hold and is higher in all stats compared to the venture. but im looking into a shio with 4-6 hard ports (2 mining and 4 for weapons, or 6 weapons if going to battle senario). i will try and a career mission while i wait for my brother to catch up with his character and skills.
my current ship the heron has 2 eps gausian lazers. for mining. what weapons would you suggest (i might get a venture to use for the career mission |

*sigh* It has to be said. The Venture has two cargo holds. The tiny 50m3 one where you can put anything that fits and a massive 5000m3 one that only holds mined ore.
The Venture will out-mine ANYTHING else a new player or alpha character can use. And it has reasonable defenses once you put two drones into the drone bay and use them. |

I did the same thing when i first started the game hhaha (5 months ago) i was mining in a tayra which is actually a hauling ship not a mining ship (i think, i dont know many of the ships yet), go to your big bar on the left side of the screen ingame, the bar with lots of symbols running down it. now hover your mouse over each one of the icons and it will show a name for what it is, find something that says something about a list of ships, this is where it shows the ships that are in the game, when you open that, look at the top left of the screen and there should be about 10 or so symbols, representing different races in the game. hover over those until you find one called "ORE" (it willl tell you the names when you hover over them). that is where the section for ships designed for mining are :)

There is a lot of good advices here already, almost nothing to add.
1. Always use ships with traits for particular jobs. If you need to mine - take a mining ship, if you need to fight - take a ship with combat bonuses. There are few exeptions, like "combat Venture", but that's too special cases.
2. Mining looks safe and stable for a newcommer, but it's profit is low. If you're looking for a way to make ISK, learn 'bout exploration, or, if you want to make your hands dirty, try faction warfare. If you still want to mine - ice harvesting is your best option. |

And on that note.... Make sure to take the time to familiarize yourself with the scanning interface, your overview options and settings. Keep local in an open window apart from your other channels. Don't afk in space. Don't use autopilot.

the only missions u could probably use the venture for would be the mining missions. You would have probably needed the Tayra to haul later, I use my main hauler all the time for hauling stuff to and from the market hub, like the ore or minerals you mine.
The venture comes with a 5k ore hold for mining, and a small hold for other things like salvage and such, and is bonused for mining. Keep your other ships for their roles and jobs, the venture is really geared more for mining.
I have all the other small ships for their certain roles. For you Ibis(free rookie ship), Bantam(healer), Heron(scanning), Kestrel(general mission ship), Griffin(ECM ship), Condor(fast intercept, usually cheapest), Merlin(fighting ship, one of the strongest t1 figs says EVEUni). I have extra fast intercepters for different jobs, one for fast runs to the local trade hub for just small stuff, and one for fast salvage when it's spread across a wide area.

My only advice is:
Understand how the game is to be played. Not the mechanics but like what kind of attitude you should have towards it.
EvE is not about "immediate entertainment". Many find it "boring" after a while and i bet you will too when your fed up mining, the most boring of all activities. EvE is a long term commitment, a long term love relationship and very big part of it isnt even playing but learning it, thinking about it, reading about it, understand the mechanics, understand what is good for what and what not and why.
EvE is not a theme park, so expect every piece of entertainment needs to be created/approached by yourself. They game is not offering it to you on silver plate. EvE can be extremely joyful but you need to keep getting there by yourself. You gotta be willing to try stuff out, fail, try something else fail again until you've found out what is your cup of tea and what not.
Getting into a state where the game is really fun takes time and commitment and there is probably quite some frustration on the way. EvE differs people who either give up on failure, blame others, get angry and leave the bad experience behind OR the ones who keep trying because they want to learn and succeed in the end. You need to be person type 2 to get something out of EVE.
"EvE is real" ;) |
