Hello. I am new to the game. I just signed up a little bit ago. It was the "Best Graphics" award over that GameSpy that made me check it out, and all I have to say is WOW. I loaded it up, and quickly made a character just to see what it was all about. Beautiful. I can't believe I hadn't really heard much about it. The reviews were right though, one helluva learning curve. Heh. I'm willing though, this game looks sweet.

So many character custimization options. I could spend hours on that screen. Is that something that can be changed in game? I know I should ask in Q&A, and I'll put all further questions there. I just kinda wanna know.

Just for starters, put your attributes into INT and MEM. --

And if you want a combat character, make a minmatar slave child with all points in willpower and perception. The most skills out there require those, atleast my kind of skills. __________________________

Guys guys, don't trick him into putting ALL of his points into 2 attributes, that's stupid. You'll regret it lots of times.

Hi, and welcome to EVE.
I would definitely not get too emotionally attached to your character just yet...the attributes you pick during character creation will have a VERY large impact on the time it takes to train different "skills" within the game.
I know it's hard to figure out what you think you'll want to do "long term" when you're just starting out. But, if you do have a general idea of the type of player you want to be (Fighter, Miner, Hauler, Trader, Builder, etc.) then you'll be better equipped to figure out where you'll want to "stack" your attributes.
I also recommend checking out the "skills" forum on this web site, as there will likely be many topics which will help you figure out the basics of skill training and how your attributes effect things.
I also highly recommend a visit to the EVE-I web site over at www.EVE-I.com. Look in the "Articles & Guides" section and you'll find more helpful information.
Trust me, if you spend a good day or two reading the forums, articles, and guides...and then asking questions when things don't make much sense...and THEN rebuilding your character (you can delete him / her and get the same name back a few hours later I think), you'll be much happier several months from now.
Once again, welcome to EVE. I wish you all the best, and hope you have as much fun playing as most of us have.

Warm Regards, Victoria Madison

I disagree, there's something to be said in initially specialising in one field (be it combat, mining, production etc) and basing your character creation around that. You can get implants later, to make up on the attribs you neglected at creation stage.
After all, it's better to be a "master" at a particular field than a jack of all trades who is mediocre at them all ;)

actually I¦d recommend going for a fairly level skill distribution, because all the int/mem based skills *are* important for combat in the long run, and if you¦re not sure what you wanna do in EvE (which is sort of natural when you start out) you leave all your options open. It all balances out in the end - just don¦t spend too many (=any) points on Charisma, it¦s still pretty much useless. xxx Atea. |

But not as important as Will/Percep skills in the short term :)

That's what alts are for, so that you don't have to compromise your main character's attribs/skill setup if you want to experiment in other areas.

Not true. I have crap Perc and Wil and I don't suck a combat. Attributes affect your skill time trianing not anything else, unless someone can tell me otherwise. Anyway, implants sort out atts anyway, so its a moot point. -------------------------------------------- Dead

1. Learning skills really helps. 2. a good grade clone is everything 3. insurence is good when flying cruisers 4. always be on alert if you have to go trough aunenen, daras, obe.
fun part is that if you get stopped by pirates you can unless you have valuable goods. let them blew you up. my main char never pays to pirates. hehe.

Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

Edited by: Luc Boye on 07/01/2004 11:39:54 maxing out in INT and MEM attributes makes sense because:
1.) learning skills are based on that, you'd want to train them to at least 4 each as soon as you can.
2.) skills based on int and mem are those skills that can make him earn some ISK.
3.) he may have early start and start researching tech2 in say 2 months and participate in EVE more actively, instead of being just a noob in a cruiser shooting npcs.
4.) when he get some ISK he can buy implants and better ships.
5.) I don't really think that perception and willpower influence rate of fire and damage that much. They are, on the other hand, base for the skills involved which is maybe 25% of the skills he'll ever train. --

Alot of the skills that h elp you in combat ie electronics, engineerings, are int; mem for the most part, My character has really high perception and willpower; 13,15 repsectivly no implants yet, even though I tried to blanace out the distribution when I made this character I had no idea how the game worked I just bought because it looked fun. So I had to train mem and int skills really high so I could learn everything else fast, but training gunnery skills, ship piloting skills(which can take forever) helps alot with good perception and willpower.

Put all your points into Cha. That is the best skill. You have agents to run. For those pilots, think about this.
Eve has changed of the first 6 month majorly in ships and combat. Think about agents in the same way. I bet the devs will making the same type of changes to agents as they did for combat. So as you see it now agents wont look the same in 6 months.
This is the greatest gamne ever. Its soo complex and tied into ever aspect of the game to think its final today you must of lost your implants on that last warp. --------------------------
Garsh ma it soo cool killing people in there space thingies |
