I've read somewhere that there are constantly new skills added. What i seen so far were completely new skills, like rig skills, salvaging etc.
But is there a chance that there will be an addon for already existing skills ? Like for example the Cruise Missile skill (rank 5, 5% damagebonus), there is Cruise Missile Specialisation (rank 8, 2% rof-bonus) and then a new master skill which affects the same attributes but is even harder to train ? Something like Advanced Cruise Missile, 1.5% more dmg/lvl, Rank 12 ? So that we can specialize even more our characters in one certain field ?

CCP is wise in this aspect and will not allow ubber specialization of fields, but rather prefers creating new areas to specialize.
It is better to be specialized in 2-5 different things in a years's time than just one. Lessens the chance of loosing players who are bored.
7.5% dmage bonus will not hold onto a longtime player, but a new field to explore will go a long way.
Also specialization that takes much time and offers no practical advantage (solo, your raven still dies to 2 arazus), only frustrates players.

And can you imagine the whining people will do when they train the FOTM advanced spec skills halfway to V and CCP nerfs it?
Some people are best left without the stupid options to choose in the first place, they can't figure it out or be told not to do them :\ -----

level 5 missions obviously open things up, more room in rigs
or they will nerf some underdeeloped areas ( like NOS and add speacilised skills, making the base skills less effective but encouraging speacilisations)
new ship types are another thing that they can add t2 BS ( fleet ships anyone)

well i dont feel this problem.Im here nearly as long as the game, and i still have much to many skills i want to train and to little time...:)
sure my percp/willpower attribs arent uber ( thanks ccp for all the changes:( ) but i specialize only in one race maybe 1,5 race kind of and only in one weapon system, so i think poeple who want to train 2-3 races have years ahead of them...( note each race means new weapon skills) Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Kreul Intentions ([email protected]) |

Doubt it, while been a pronounced asset to the game having time based skilling system, its also eve's flaw in that it is very anti new player, most of which if they take advice spend the first 2 months training learning skills before even getting into skills that allow them to compete at the lower levels, adding even more specialized skills lengthening overall training times for a certain item is just going to add weight to the incentives to leave. While vets need content there are less of them than lower end players.
Could spend an entire evening with a bunch of psychologists discussing the reasons why a leveling system such as WoW's and many other mmo's system is more popular and more attention grabbing for newbies over a system such as eve's that is in effect more efficient. But it boils down to a tangible reward, at each level of what ever mmo you get a ding a nice level up message, you know know your one step closer to the goal. In eve you get skill level completely and instantly go whats the next one to train up, even when you can use pritty much every item in the game your still gonna be doing the same thing you did as a newb. Sig removed as it lacks EVE-related content. Mail [email protected] if you have questions. -Hango

I'm 15mil SP's ahead of you and I still have tons to train, and yes, I'm pure Matari.
[Edit to make the point - NO, we don't need more specialisation, if you specialise gunnery, missiles or drones any more, we'll be back in the gank>tank situation, no-one needs that.] Vicarrah Tahiri Matriarch |

Ya I was about to add that.. Capital ships. I have roughly 38M Sp and I am looking at another 6 months of training to specialize in my carrier and dreadnought. CCP needs to do something though to assist in new players getting into the game. I have many RL friends I have persuaded to try eve online and they just couldnt stomach the long training in the beginning. Maybe missions that reward completed "basic" skills at the end, engineering, electronics etc.... To lessen the burden on new players to get them hooked on the game quicker.

well, i know a few rl friends that have been playing for 3 years now, they can fly nearly every combat ship with t2 fittings, and theyre bored!
hardcore pirates doing gallente indy 5, out of not knowing what else to train!
go carriers? more capital than most can muster.i know we've just had new ships (bcs etc) but tbh, how different are they? theyre just bigger badder versions of the t1/regular cruiser. ie cane is just rupture on steroids.
and thats kool...but booring! we need the greater ability to use tactics, wihtin our ships and our gameplay.
and i know that was slome bs writing, but meh, deal :P
good day

EVE is not anti new player if anything it is easier to start off now then it was before.
Funny enough it is actually 2 year and up players that will cause the most problems for new players.
So invite a friend into the game and start hanging around with them and tell them all the things they need to do. Then they start asking well what about this or this, and you start saying well that will take 3 months and that will take a year but isn't it grand as you show them the ship they wanted as you fly circles around them.
Basically you are kicking them in the face and it is not surprising to see some quit and move on. I am not saying you did it on purpose for I am sure it was the last thing you were thinking about if anything your intentions were to get them interested enough to go for that ship.
I really don't think more specialization for experienced players will do anything but make that gap even bigger and much harder for a new player deal with.
More content that is not dependant on existing skills would work though.

a content upgrade without massive skill additions would be cute for once:
last one brought invention, salvaging, new scan probe system, etc... no matter how many accounts i would create for their own field, i'll still be behind for another year.
with capital ships online these days, i won't enjoy the excitement of having something new available for another 3-4 months.
to top it off, i chose my main to be a minnie... - "Ready for your... sponge bath?" |

I'd love it, but oh well. Don't think it will happen. But i'm at almost 60mil skillpoints and I'm running out of things to train as a gallente specialist that doesn't have the isk for capitals....

Edited by: Yakia TovilToba on 20/05/2007 15:30:10 Please don't get me wrong, i don't say there are not enough skills in game and therefore new sould be added ... i was thinking of people who seek mastery in a certain little field.
Lets say someone loves to fly battelcruisers. He is not interested in battelships nor capital ships nor mining or producing etc. So he trains the basic skills to 5, the support&tanking skills, the medium weapon types, battelcruiser to 5, the navigation and some electroncis skills and there he is. He is now forced to train something diffrent than he wants to use, something that does not support his current and future gameplay.
Why would it be wrong giving him a skill to concentrate on his particular special field ? I'm not asking for ueberness either, that extra specialsisation should give lower advantage for much higher trainingtime, so people who don't train this are still fine, and thos who do pay a high price in time (training something not so effective).
For the battelcruiser guy for example there would be a skill like Advanced Battelcruisers, giving only half or 1/3 of the normal battelcruiser bonus and taking double the time ? He still has the option to train other stuff and be more effective, but if he does not like to do something else or to fly a bigger shiptype, why should he be forced to ?

No thank you. I like the variety Eve offers. Adding even more specializations only encourages must-have situations and multiple account crapola
