Intro: As far as I know, the current warp effect is at least 4 years old. I believe it is time for a bit of a visual change in that area.
My idea is to replace the current "get up to speed and slug into warp" with a more "punch" like effect, as demonstrated in the following 5 videos.
My first two examples are from the 2009 Star Trek movie: Linkage Linkage - Imagine a Titan or other capital/supercap class ship performing the 2nd warp.
My next examples are from the game Mass Effect 2: Linkage - Skip to 2:18 Linkage - Skip to 2:10
Finally, it seems that CCP has almost pulled this off already in the Incursion trailer: Linkage - Skip to 1:20
Some of you may remember the old thread here. Since the mechanics changes proposed there received, for the most part, negative reactions, I have decided to remove them from this proposal. If this is passed, now the only change would be to the visual effects.
I appreciate you taking the time to read my proposal.
Also, keep the suggestions coming, I'd really like to see this become something that (mostly) everyone can agree on and thus get it passed by the CSM. |

The key difference between EVE's warp system and the ones illustrated above is that in EVE, your ship seems to have a maximum acceleration/deceleration factor, and needs to ramp up its speed slowly and then bring it down gradually.
While this may be necessary to keep Minmatar ships from falling apart, pod pilots themselves should be able to handle the forces involved... Ah, **** it, EVE isn't about realism. Yes, accelerating nearly instantly to a very high speed and zooming across the galaxy would probably look cooler. Probably. (/signed) |

Yup, It would definitely look cooler punching out like that. Not to mention the Exit Drop out of Warp, right on top of your opponent... instead of the 5-10 sec, "OK here I am, Run!" slow down drag effect we have now,

Liking because you took the time to remove the mechanics changes from your post. Visually this would be a nice change, though as stated by Andski in a tongue in cheek manner.. grid loads might become more problematic. |

I would imagine it would be a good idea for the grid to load before they actually land. If the server knows where you are going to land, then it would make sense for the server to start sending information and to start having models and actions start loading for the player while in warp, so when they get there they are not barraged by a sudden jolt of loading. Likewise for people already on the grid, that is seeing the person pop in, they would start receiving information of their arrival, but it wouldn't be visible till they actually got there. Similar to cloaking and uncloaking, the ship is not detectable until it decloaks, but it is there on the grid already and once it decloaks, you don't have a massive spike of lag because all the ships were loaded on the grid already and it sent that info to all the clients on that grid to load those models to show when the ship decloaks.
I'm not a CS major, so I don't claim this to be the Golden Ticket of grid loading. But it's an idea nevertheless. |

Anything to spice up the warp and jump effects would be nice.
Bring back the old capital jumping/cyno while we're at it :) |
