Especially for newcomers since I am one :p
I don't have the greatest ship (still just a frigate), I don't have many resources, and I choose not to leach/beg off some large corporation...
So far I've got...
* NPC Pirate Hunting * Running agent missions * Mining (but find boring) * Trading loot (but not much to trade yet)
Just wondering what avenue's others have taken to build wealth... and no, ebay is not an option either :p I prefer to actaully earn what I get
Thanks for any feedback =)

Depends on your skills and level of risk you are comfortable with.
1. Missions are easy money. The faster your ship - 2 mwd which require Nav4/Ab4/Fuel3 - the faster you will make money. Once you get level 3 agents you start getting really cool stuff which you can sell for mega millions
2. NPC "farming". Still a viable source of income in empire space but you need a cruiser (or BS) and very good gunnery/elec/eng/shield/reparir/mech skills to do this. It is also very dependent on which type of ship/type of weapons and which type of NPC pirates you are fighting.
3. Mining is the easiest way to make money. Just dont get podded by some PK'er and have your ore stolen by a theif. The better your mining skills/mining lasers/and drone skills the quicker you make money.
option a: join a corp that is in an non-empire alliance: curse, foutian, venal, etc. There you will find the rare roids. I refine of Ark goes for like 5 Million isk.
option b: get up your nav/shield/drone skills and mine in low securitty .2- .5 space with drones to protect u. The minerals arent great but better than low security space. Mine into a can and pick up with an industrial or somethin like that.
remember if you arent a good refiner (refine 5/refine eff 5 at least) dont refine. Sell as ore or have a good refiner do it for ya.
4. Trading. Never was a trader, so dont know.
hope that is helpful.

My goals right now are pretty simple though, I just got caldari cruiser trained to level III and I would like to get my hands on a Moa, but since I'm still within the first 2 weeks of playing and < 300K total skill points, I don't have the personal resources/ability to come up w/ the 8 mil+ or so ISK to get one (I still struggle to get over 1 mil since I keep buying skills and whatnot ;p)
Once I actually *get* a cruiser I know I will be in good shape for both NPC fighting and agent missions, which is where I see myself for the future.
I was just curious what other avenues there may be so that I don't commit myself to something when I may/might enjoy something else more.
Right now I'm at about 2.12 for my level 2 agent and I've probably run 40+ successful missions already (and made a few mistakes early on and failed a few or I'm sure my rating would be much higher)... just the loot from that might be enought to get me a Moa, although I'm not familiar w/ the market yet, so my philosophy so far has just been to hold on to the items.
Ah well, guess I'll go back to agent missions and NPC fighting then and then tinker around in the market... its a slow process but it'll get me there eventually ;p

Yep, Sounds like thats the right choice for ya. Caldari really does limit you to fighting but keep your options open.
You can join a corp because they will have bp's for ships, minerals to buy for cheap and good builders. At this point I almost make money LOSING ships if they are insured with the minimum hehe. A Megathron can cost like 150M on the market but really only costs me like 43M to build (I supply my own top end minerals) and I'll get 50M back from insurance!
There are still good places to farm NPC's but its alot different since the patch. I think the abandoned stations/outposts are the most fun and they still drop neat loot you can use or sell. Check them out!

What you can do is:
Buy a MOA BPC, it should go between 150 and 400k.
Get Refining to 3 and Production Efficiency to 3.
Look at your BPC and you will see the list of materials you need to build your MOA.
Mine everything up to isogen. During this time npc pirates will attack you, keep the loot for refining, sometimes you will get zydrine and megacyte.
When you have everything but the megacyte and the zydrine then you can either do missions or keep on mining to buy it.
I suggest doing level 2 agents missions because you will get money and tech tools which can be recycled for more megacyte and zydrine.
Then when you have all the materials then rent a factory, put the BPC in your hangar and build your MOA.
If you have at least one friend to help you mining then it will be a lot easier, and if you have some refining or producing the ship for you it will become even more easy. This is why joining a good corp can help you a lot. You will probably get the BPC for free, maybe the base minerals too and they will protect you from NPC pirates and help you carry your minerals.

great advice everyone =)
So far, this is what I have been doing and has worked out pretty well so far... Loot runs on 2K-5K pirates around stargates, which usually gets me about 40K an hour straight ISK... the loot I get refines down pretty nice, heck, think I'm up to 25 megacyte actually + about 20 more in items thats i haven't refined yet.
Then I spend time doing level 2 agent missions, and have put some of the items I got back up on the market (sold a few and made about 500K or so already)
So right now, I think I'm finally up to 2mil pure isk, with lots of items I can refine + a decent amount of minerals that I have already refined...
So think I am just about ready to go get that BPC and fill in the gaps :)
I haven't seen any abandoned stations yet, maybe I need to go explore some as well :p

Thanks, I might just have to take you up on the offer sooner or later :p
As soon as I get a moa I'm going to have to have to learn how to equip it... so might as well do it right :) any info would be helpful

Looks like I might be needing some good advice sooner than later :p
Stizum was nice enough to actually *give* me a blackbird (which I was very appreciative of), and spent much of my money stocking the thing up w/ medium level items/guns.
Just as I was undocking it my computer started lagging hard, and while I was typing to someone somehow I set off my smartbomb, did about 50 points of damage to the station (or something near by), then got blown to tiny pieces by the centry gun... that was slightly devestating.
On top of this me being the bright person that I am decided to go back with my Merlin to pick up what I had dropped (which wasn't much), and didn't realize that the centry guns still had it in for me in a bad way hehe... so now all my ships got blown to tiny pieces = Ah well, just thought I would post the update hehe, I'll manage to stick this one out somehow, this just set me back a tad bit... I better start getting used to an ibis again :p
