I remember some time back, the Evolution trailer was awesome.
Using those same techniques, I am sure moviemakers could actually use models from the game to make a proper movie. With so many accounts now active, there would be quite a market for it already. Many players would buy it just to have a movie from the game they were playing and many more people would buy the movie anyway if it was well made, (notice how well the Wing Commander movie did).
If actors played the roles and it portrayed the actual backstory of Eve, along with a good idea of life in highsec, lowsec and 0.0, I am sure we can get a great movie from the beginnings right up to Eve as it is now with some stunning animation like in the Evolution trailer.
Such things as the skill books shown as plugin mods that feed directly to the brain and work over time. How the mining lasers work and such. This would serve to solve a lot of those annoying riddles that keep cropping up in discussions and once and for all give reasons for certain things to avoid a lot of speculation on the forums.
I think that if the animation was done as well as the evolution trailer, the final film would be a major hit with a good storyline to back it.
Does anyone else think that Eve would make a good film? --

It would be f-ing awesome. Whitewolf has some minor experience when it comes to their material being used in movies, or at least having movies loosely based on their content and style.
Alas, it's one of those dreams that'll probably never see the light of day.
Remember the D&D movie? Neither do I. God that was awful.

That's not true, look at the chronicles.
It'd be hard to do much with pod pilots, but the universe is a lot more than that.

It definitely would not be the first or last time a movie came from a game.
One that comes to mind (Cause I loved the series) was a movie based off of Battle Tech.
Would be interesting to see

Actually, I wanted to start off an EVE movie. A nice CG fight scene to start off cuz I suck as an actor. But if we could for example create an short EVE movie of one of the chronicles with the community that would be AWESOME. There are other dedicated people in this community, so what do you say? ____________________________________________

Wouldn't be too hard to make it about pod pilots, you can have battle scenes(get Dire Lauthris to make these ) when they're in ships and have human interaction when they're in stations or on planets.

a film telling the story of the fall of new eden? I think Eve has some of the best background story in a sci-fi game

Yes there will be an EVE movie, I predict it. Having some background in the business I can say that Hollywood (not that we need them but I digress) is starving for ideas and content. The best they have to go on this past decade is remakes of original films and pumping out sequels to existing brands.
EvE is an exciting place and has zero to do with anything close to Star Wars, Star Trek, or any other sci-fi property around. Eventually, if the EVE brand survives over the next several years I believe that somebody will come knocking on CCP's door for either some Sci-Fi channel TV series, or a full blown motion picture.
When Hollywood is scrabling to eat what table scraps are left, and are choosing between a Casablanca remake, the newest Herbie film or Ghostbusters 3, EVE will be a refreshing direction, and will come in the next wave of sci-fi interest that won't involve having to hire Arnold Swartzenegger. Though, who else could really play Sir Molle?

Lets be honest, if they do make a real movie it will probably be based on prime fiction, not player generated game play (though that does provide plenty of ideas).
I would rather it done right as opposed to what happened to Wing Commander. Either a good movie or no movie at all. ----

Episodic and animated would be the way to go. Plenty of story that you could take your time with in small doses and not try to cram everything (and spend too little time with everything) into a 2-hour movie. No way to distill EVE into a 2 hour movie without shortchanging a lot of things, and once the Hollywood people get a hold of it, it will be changed so much as to lose all meaning.
Computer animation is getting cheaper and better all the time. Take a look at the new intro movie for Starcraft 2 (just as an example of a well-done computer animation). It doesn't have to be photo-real. Hell, the new ambulation (station avatars) engine looks good enough for me. Hire some good voice talent, use the ambulation engine, bingo! Cheap, easy to produce episodic content, of chronicle length.

Yea, I would like to see a CGI type Eve movie, or at least a few episodes.
Each one could tell the story of a pod pilot/normal person in the new things that are happening allaround in the universe.
The story of a matar refugee who is rescued by a Gallente pilot?
Or the 'frist' pod pilot (A caldari in the Caldari/Gallente War) and his struggles both during AND after the war
and have all the epsiodes link together someway at the end. Also many battles, large/small scale with pretty pew pew would be a +
Or some Jove warrior dies to attempt to defeat the Bob titan/mothership armada, but passes on his knowlage to a just into the pod noob?
The possiblities are endless!

Firefly is a fantastic show, but it doesn't really capture the essence of EVE imho. There are some fairly interesting parallels, but nothing too solid. On the other hand, Babylon 5 is amazingly similar to EVE, and I often wounder how much this show influenced EVE's design. The ship designs, races, stories... so much of it is so similar to EVE. In particular, the Centuri (Amarr) / Narn (Minmatar) and Minbar (Gallente) / Earth (Caldari) conflicts. And of course, ship designs... the thorax hull looks very similar to the white stars, while the Myrmidon looks to be a close cousin to the Minbari war cruisers. And the Amarr shuttle seems to be ripped virtually right out of B5 with the Centuri shuttle. Just to name a few of the top of my head. There are many other striking similarities.
It's great not being Amarr, ain't it? |

Yeah, I do kinda agree with that. I think probably because it's based more in ships and on planets rather than ships/space stations which is why B5 might feel a bit more like EVE.
Originally by: Mesasone On the other hand, Babylon 5 is amazingly similar to EVE
Apart from the whole alien thing... but otherwise spot on <rant> I used to LOVE B5 but the network here that showed it had (and still has) a terrible habit of buying good sci-fi shows then scheduling them on at 11:30 at night...
following a live to air show of some sort that may run up to half an hour overtime (sometimes more) and then about once every 3 weeks replace it at no notice with some thrilling sports thing... like maybe GOLF.
And then they wonder why the shows rated poorly... DUH. Shows I know that suffered this fate include B5, all of the Star Trek series, Farscape (no real loss there) and Firefly (I didn't even KNOW about Firefly until a mate gave me a couple of episodes he got off the net about 6 months after it had aired here)
It made it very very hard to follow the shows plot lines. </rant>
Oops, sorry about the derail

A movie would be pretty cool.
I would be willing to get active and write to the film companies sugesting the target market. TBH i doubt they have hear of Eve before so its a case of proving this can work on a global scale and be sold. As such it would include Eve related content but the storyline would have to be captivationg to the masses.
Star Wars and Startreck movies have been huge hits but other space related movies have not really done very well at the box office. I suggest our background is not know by the masses enough at the moment for them to come to us. We would need to go to them :) And get proactive.

Totally agree. Films made entirely with CGI are ok, like Final Fantasy, but in liveaction films it has just been overdone to the point where I don't even raise an eyelid when I see something that could never be done with props and animatronics.
I think Star Wars episodes 4,5 and 6 actually had better special effects than 1,2 and 3, simply because they were a bit more special.
During Revenge of the Sith I kept wanting to press escape and get to the game.

Such as a crime story invloving a murdered Caldari researcher on Luminaire, and the main character being a gallente detective must investigate it but must first get over his own prejudices of the Caldari etc something good like that, instead of a story showing a fleet battle etc which we see every day.

Either that, or we do it Fifth Element style, and I get dibs on Bruce Willis to play Janu, and Mila Jovavich as Exotic Dancer #273.
Sorry but it's Lorenzo Lamas for you.
Could be worse...
This is my sig, there are many others just like it. With me, my sig is worthless. Without (or with even) my sig, I am worthless... |

LOl nice topic.
Actually if you look at all the 0.0 politics/moves its quite an epic material.
I would like darth vader to play Blacklight, and empreror SirMolle:)
I could be played by one of the 100 pilots getting killed in death star assualt:)
Actually could be one serious version of the movie and the second a comedy playing on all those mmorpg-rl ultra funnny relations. lag, camoing etc....:)

Originally by: Redpants EvE is an exciting place and has zero to do with anything close to Star Wars, Star Trek, or any other sci-fi property around.
Nah, it could be tricky with terms like "Warp Drive" (and ofc WC Stabs, Warp Jammer...), "Stargates" and such; but that's all common sciFi-stuff today i guess, so a plain renaming could do the job...WTFOMGBBQ-drive or such

Originally by: Adaris I would like to see a cgi version of a story that wasn't too epic. Such as a crimallente War) and his struggles both during AND after the war e story invloving a murdered Caldari researcher on Luminaire, and the main character being a gallente detective must investigate it but must first get over his own prejudices of the Caldari etc something good like that, instead of a story showing a fleet battle etc which we see every day.
Yeah, that's the way my idea of an EVE video goes: credibility. No overdozed Pew Pew like Sallente War) and his struggles both during AND after the war tar Wars, but more a cross-genre movie like Alien (horror) or Blade Runner (film noire). Think of a conventional film (ofc with a fresh story) in Eve-setting, pretending that it's normal to be there (in tallente War) and his struggles both during AND after the war he Eve world). No direct explanation of mechanics (star gates, mobile bubbles etc.), just as all the things were RL-knwon; it would be silly if a conventional movie would explain every single thing like allente War) and his struggles both during AND after the war many scifi movies do. So i liked the way Firefly has gone - more in that direction, less Star Wars. Don't make it more epic than it has to be, no empire vs. empire or such.
On the other hand it would be cool if the making style would'nt be too conventional, so think about 300 or Sin City, or at least Blade Runner. Dark, bizarre, or just like the illustrations given by CCP. A complete cartoon-like version in the style of that illustrations would be awesome - no (3D-)CGI, no actors; but ofc in fluid motions, not that anime stuff.
Originally by: Ararius Yea, I would like to see a CGI type Eve movie, or at least a few episodes.
Yeah, a episode-cutted variant like Outer Limits with non-related stories could do the tv-series thing. Would be awesome.
Ant tbh, i don't think that any movie comes close to the "style" or atmosphere of eve, not just the ingame-experience, but also and especially the chronicles and illustrations. Not to mention the soundtrack... _____________________________ - be excellent to each other -

I would make every single blood raider pilot a Christopher Walken clone.
Hundreds upon hundreds of Christopher Walkens, each with his own monologue...

Originally by: Frug It'd be hard to do much with pod pilots, but the universe is a lot more than that.
Why? Capsuleers are perfectly capable of getting out of the pod when the need takes them. I figure they maybe use digitally rendered avatars for conversing with crew and passengers when in the egg...
