Originally by: Patch86 Starcraft and Warcraft II were both great games. Warcraft III was playable, but by no means a winner (WH40K: DoW is basically what it wet dreams about being), but at least it was in the same style as War craft II.
Starcraft II is looking to be uncomfortably close to WCIII- that is, the same style of game play AND the same style. And while WCIII got away with that style by being fantasy, it really really REALLY won't suit Starcraft. I know its a new engine, but it just seems to be a new version of WCIII.
Blizzard would have been well advised using this engine to make Warcraft IV, and trying to have Starcraft compete with the likes of C&C and SupCom. But it doesn't look to be that way..........
NO! BAD! are you that dense?????????? I shake my head at humanity. If I ever said something that lacking of any intelligence. maybe if you watch it you can see it played like starcraft. because it is starcraft. I'm sorry but this just break all common sense I have ever had.

Originally by: Mike Atropos I've finished watching the gameplay video, and I've got mixed feelings about it.
First, the animations and modeling are simply superb. The units move very fluidly and the new abilities to move across terrain look great.
That said, the overall graphics look not-so-good. This doesn't come as a surprise to me though, as Blizzard seems to be getting fond of avoiding high-end graphics abilities so that every ****er with a 486 can play the game. Terrain textures (esp. the non-metallic ones) look blurry, weapons fire looks very basic, no or few particle effects, no shaders, etc.
Death animations look hokey (a battlecruiser falls apart like legos) and the debris don't stay for more than a few seconds, which is a real oddity since the debris are physics enabled. If your going to go to the trouble of debris sliding down ramps, at least let them stay put 0.o
Many of the new protoss units just don't look protosy (the colossus looks like something out of Rise of Legends, not starcraft), and I've already got balance concerns given their new abilities. I just love the website in this regard: they claim it will be a balanced game, when it took god knows how many patches AND BroodWar to get SC to a semblance of balance, and WoW drifts further and further into the realm of Roguecraft.
Finally, and this is one of my largest complaints - unit scale is even worse than in Starcraft. Nuclear explosions are the size of air superiority fighters, as are battlecruisers, AND motherships 0.0. They're all the same friggen size. Also, the displayed "battle" in SCII shown off at the end was about the size of a small skirmish in SupCom.
Overall, it looks like a fusion of SC and WCIII, and that makes me sad, although its exactly the direction I figured they'd take.
I agree, I think that there is enough pressure on blizzard to perform above and beyond their previous WCIII mediocracy, and I have faith that the graphics (though cartoony) will be firmly more enthralling than that of the original Starcraft..Hell, its about time.

True... However that doesn't mean the engine can't handle a bit of tuning...
Apart from WCIII there hasn't been a single RTS released from Blizzard that hasn't rocked!

A) It DOES look cartoony, you'll never persuade me of otherwise on that point. Because I have eyes, and I've watched the trailer and all the demo games and the screenshots, and it looks like a saturday morning kids show, with extra blood splatters.
B) Unless I'm much mistaken, I've read that there will indeed be hero units, that level up, and that there will be capturable items. I hear rumours (although not on the official page, as the rest) that there will be "creeps" (NPCs) on the map too. So yeah, that does sound like Warcraft III to me.
C) Starcraft and Warcraft II were produced at pretty much the same time or close too, and were very similar games, albeit with their differences (they were different games afterall). Most of the Blizzard staff that worked on those games have since moved on. The sequel to Warcraft II (a very similar game, at the core, to Starcraft) was Warcraft III. Why is it unreasonable to expect the team who created Warcraft III to create a similar style of game for Starcraft II?
and D) I was totally wasted when I typed that last post, and you can barely tell now, reading it back. I'm so proud
EDIT: Doing a bit more searching, I might (THANKFULLY) be wrong about point B. There are sites that claim both ways, but the majority, and more reputable websites claim that there WONT be heroes or creeps and such. Which is puts SCII up several serious notches in my excited column again. Heres hoping............. --------

It really reminds me of the Raon Launcher from Gunbound. GB's a nice little distraction a far cry from other korean MMOs(grindfests). Try if out if you're bored.

The gameplay trailer shows that the units are much more detailed than those from warcraft3. It looks abit like supreme commander ifyou look at these walkers but hey, starcraft1 was a great game and this one looks very nice to me.

Well I should ruddy hope so, tbh. Warcraft III was released 5 years ago, if they couldn't top that engine now I'd be dead disappointed. --------

And about the graphic. It looks nice to me even when it have a little cartoonish looks.
And to those who whine about the StarCraft 2 graphic, just be happy that you can run SC2 in bigger resolution than 640x480, and that you have better graphic than the first SC game. StarCraft is not about the graphic, it's about the gameplay .
When StarCraft 2 is here, then both C&C3 and Supreme Commander will be deleted from my computer .

I don't see how this will happen: Starcraft's gameplay is quite outdated and Starcraft 2 doesn't seem to have any obvious improvements: I mean I haven't even heard that it will have queueable orders!
Odds are:
a) It'll be very similar to Starcraft 1, but as a result be easily outclassed by Supreme Commander. or b) The gameplay will be revamped, and Blizzard will ruin it.
