Ok every day I read..
'Shield tanked ships suck at PVP' 'Caldari cant PVP' Blah blah blah blah. Well why? After reading a very good post about Battleships and Solo PVP, it occurred to me why there this is the perception. A lot of the more successful PVP (solo) ships seem to be constructed around an 'armor' tank. This (rehash..please be patient) frees up the mid slots for the 'tackle' modules. Well, what if we (CCP) added Tackle Rigs. These would be 'warp scram' ' web ' and or other 'dedicated' PVP rigs that could be fit. Now this would ruin some passive tank setups, but would allow more flexibility. Before you traditional armor tankers start to complain, this would not stop you from employing your setup, but would also open a new range of ship fits and possibilities. I cant remember seeing this idea before, so if I am rehashing please excuse me, but it just seems like the 'logical' extention of the entire 'RIg' concept.

rigs are not modules, they cannot be activated like a scram or web... use the rigs for tanking and the meds for taclking if you are determined

if they can't be used for tackling yet they can be used for upgrades then the upgrades should be increased in power to accomodate the lack of ability through the removal of sheild tanking modules to give the pilot the ability to tackle and tank.
makes sense if you read it backwards. -------------------- "this is the templar fighter used by carriers" Originaly quoted by Shania Eria.

As a dedicated Caldari pilot who PvPs very successfully with the Beagle and the Blaster Rokh with no rigs on either ship, I can assure you that allowing me to tackle with my rig slots would way overpower me.
You are correct that it would change a lot of setups, the armor tankers would be free to use a lot more goodies in their mids as well, and your idea has some very good intentions, perhaps flesh it out some more and think it through to exploitability, then resubmit your idea and you may get better feedback.

No, this would just overpower armor tankers more. Instead of having to fit tackle, they would fill their mids with cap rechargers.... Shield tankers need high slot tackle items and speed mods, that is the solution.

Hmmm, how about a rig that converts a low slot into a mid at the expense of some powergrid? Would make for some really funky setups

Imo, it's fine. There's a balance after all.
Shield tanking ships do get more mid-slots than armor tanking ships for one.
Secondly, the lowslots they do get they can often use for damage mods, resulting in a swifter kill, and less need for a tank. Apart from that, they can gank and tank even better in a gang with armor tankers that do the tackling, while an armor tanking ship could not gank much better even if it didn't use its midslots.
Not saying that's the end of it. But in general it all works out. If Caldari has worse battleships than say Gallente for solo PvP, so what? They have better battleships for PvE. One of them can be amazing jamming at 70km etc.
Solo BS PvP is not everything. The topic you read I read too, and though it says alot, it isn't all there's to it.
And what if caldari BS solo at PvP. Who cares, there must be something better than the other. I'd hate to play EVE and have an equal chance everytime, sometimes I'm worse, sometimes better. That's decided by the choises I make, and the time I spend calculating to come up with that one good setup.
Rigs though are to boost your ship. Boost the already existing attributes of the ship, boost modules, not actually become a module.

I only fly shieldtanked ships. and i cant see anything wrong with them. you are tradeing your tackle/ewar for a greater tank+gank than the armourtankers can ever have.
if you have to solo do so in a gankfitted ship with tackle and some tank.
it works quite fine that too

Do you have any idea how overpowered this would make some ships.
I've said stuff like this on previous posts.
Imaging a domi.
Now imagine the tank you can put on it.
Now imagine if you didn't have to use the mid slots for tackle the EW you could put on it.
Now imagine how anything could possibly beat you if they could hardly ever get a lock and even if they could they still have one mother f***in tank to get through.
