Edited by: Baal Aristaeus on 23/05/2007 16:44:39 Hi Guys
I went to a lvl 3 agent today, just for fun... And well, I got the mission "The BLockade". You know the drill as well as I doo, stargate blabla and all that.
Anyhow, so I go to the next system, warp in and BAM every single npc there locks on to me (Not that unusual, but still) and starts shooting. Now, mind you, I set a bookmark and warped out and in again, so that I was aprox. 150km from the rats.
Now I'm wondering. Since when does light missiles go 150km? Wouldn't that take some extreme missile skills? I don't even think it's possible.. I warp out quite often to reload shields etc. Next time I warp in, however, I warp to the wron spot, and so I end up right in the smack of it; I turn on my 4 res boosters and damage control and send out my drones. However, eve freezes up for 1 minute (not kidding) as it auto-locks 4 ships (And mind you, I have my auto lock set to 0). This, for me, means even more lag.. ANd the annoyance of having to unlock just about every single one (Didn't lock the right targets etc). ANd I didn't even get to kill a single npc before another group spawns, and another! I mean, in the interval of 2 mins the amount of rats increases by atleast 150%...
Basicly I get my ass handed to me... My drones get the "return to ship bug" (T2 drones...) so I have to elave them there. I warp back in after doing some repairs and again it freezes for a min. after the freeze my shield is at ~50% and now I have to keep the booster on contiously.
It all ends with me warping in and out, and only killing about 2 rats every time.
THis can't be right? I mean, I use the same ship for doing most lvl 4s solo...
Raven w. 6 cruiselaunchers, nos, 4 active res boosters and everything... My missile skills are decent.¦How can this be?
/****ed of...
Edit: Oh yeah, and I'm also getting jammed from 70km away? Baal(istic) |

Sounds to me like you don't know about triggers. In The Blockade, there are special npcs that trigger the next wave. They aren't on a timer. Simply put, you shot the wrong npc.
Generally speaking, the trigger npc is the one that is unique in the group (i.e. the only frigate, the only npc of a certain type). Although I have been wrong on occasion and spawned the next wave before completely finishing off the last.
Drones, in this sense, aren't that great of a weapon for this mission. Not only do they get aggro on occasion because of newly spawning waves, they also need to be controlled such that you don't accidentally pop the trigger npc.
For L3, I wouldn't BM and warp back in. When I did this mission recently, I just stood at the warp-in spot and the new waves spawned about 100km out naturally, so it wasn't a big deal. |

1. Raven is a much better ship for L4s than L3s. Even with cruises the DPS just simply isn't there for a L3. There have been stories of people who GTC bought navy ravens and lost them in L3s. 2. NPCs cheat, PvE is less and less like PvP with every patch
There you go. This is a very easily soloable mission if you only shoot one trigger spawn at a time. Unfortunately, as you found out Guristas in large enough numbers *will* permajam you from many tens of km away. Rats cheat -- there's even a drone that can web you from 155km. Assume rats fit in god mode, and then do feeble damage.
Upgrade to a Drake, Myrm or Domi for L3s. You'll do them much faster. As a bonus the passive shield tank is much more lag proof.
Also, you can use a MWD in the blockade, and warp between cans. With some creative can dropping and warping you can jump right on top of the rat spawns quickly, and somewhat deal with being damped down to 8km lock range. FoF missiles also work to an extent.
The real solution, ofc, is to move out of space with Guristas and Serpentis.

Beware if you get the EoM version of The Blockade. There are no unique ships in the first wave - you get 3 cruisers and 3 BS. Each cruiser is a trigger for another spawn... really makes me wish you could tag targets without being in a gang
Edit: Uh, talking the lvl 4 version... serves me right for not reading the topic properly. Never post without a decent night's sleep.

You sure every one of them triggers a wave? The fist wave in the level 2 Guristas version has 3 identical frigs and 3 identical destroyers in the first wave, but only one of the destroyers will trigger the next wave (which is impossible to know before you pop them).
The following waves will have an odd named cruiser in them to trigger the next.

Well the thing is.. The time that all of theese groups spawned, I didn't kill a single one.. And my drones weren't out. How could I then've killed the trigger?

The sad thing is, thats the long awaited Amarr buff: less lag in missions in their areas of space. --

I don't think you have to kill the trigger ships, just shoot them. There are also several ships that are insanely hard to kill, leave them alone until all the other ships are killed from the current wave, then while your waiting for the next wave to get into firing range take one or 2 out if you can. The Raven is the wrong ship to do this mission, use a properly tanked BC and you'll do better. You will also find that using mostly heavy missles and a couple light missles will do more dps than you cruise missles. |

Doing this mission in a sniperdomi against serpentis is great: all the rats start 100km away from you and can't hit, so I just blaze away at them as they approach.
Tip: you can enable tagging by forming a gang with yourself. Don't try trading with yourself, though.

Edited by: Slayton Ford on 24/05/2007 17:41:04 Your doing level 3's so hanger the Raven and go get a drake. It will go much faster.
As to the blockade, a Drake set to tank (2x SPR, 1 PDU, 1x BCU II in lows; 3x LSE II, 1x Therm hard, 2x Kin hard in mids) can do The Blockade without even moving. And NPCs shooting from 150km are just that NPCs...they cheat.
Also, since blockade is normal space, not deadspace, you can warp around.

The eom version is a different mission. Gone Berserk.
In that one the triggers are the three cruisers. I lock each of those three and finish a chain in order. Works the same way for attack of the drones.

And Gods below, do I love that mission.
For the L3 missions, I like the Sniper Rokh. Its one of the few missions where its ability to reach out and punk someone from 120km actually has some value.
Even so, I still end up tanking it hardcore at 30-40km with Antimatter.
First rule of Blockade: Never shoot the trigger. Second rule of Blockde: Dire ships suck.
I usually kill the dire cruisers second because the damned standard Gisti battlecruisers die faster. Cuts down significantly on the load being handled by your tank much better.
The Blockade is one of the first missions where one might consider using an Active Tank over a Passive one. If you get to know it well enough that you can ID the triggers, you can let your shield and cap regen while the trigger ship flails helplessly against your tank.
This is my sig, there are many others just like it. With me, my sig is worthless. Without (or with even) my sig, I am worthless... |

Battleships for Lvl3s? Guys... I used an armor tanked myrm for that mission and I just sailed through it. Shot the trigger npc of all spawns and only that one. Sailed through it in about 10 minutes or something. Then I though "What the heck", cleared everything with my medium drones just doing their work while I watched TV.
Gave a shout in local offering a salavage for 50+ wrecks and whops, someone got 50+ wrecks to salvage for free :)
