Works on SISI for me without major problems, however there is one issue:
My left menu bar (the one with the char pic, etc) always gets maximized on a session change (undocking/docking, jumping to another star system). Which will probably get very annoying in the medium-long term.

Any idea when you will have a solution ready ?

Hmm, could of sworn I'd posted a link to a workaround in this thread... oh well.
Anyway, as I've mentioned, Zofu came up with an idea for a workaround and having done it myself I figured the forums might like to know how too, so I posted a thread with the info here.
I hope it help some, though I hear group policies can still be a pita.

Dont really have a problem with it going into my documents as other programs do it so have to live with it.
But the idea ../server/accountname or even better ../server/character seems logical to me

I still don't understand whats wrong with Vista using the VirtualStore directory.
Its whats suppose to happen, Vista was designed to work this way, and there is nothing wrong with that directory.

It means that no matter how many installs you have after this hits TQ, you'll only have 1 settings file.
For those that use multiple accounts, or have different settings for different alts on the same account so they can easily tell the difference, or for those that use sisi and TQ (and for the qa'ers any other server they use) it's going to case no end of issues due to differences in settings files for different versions of EVE, Hence the workaround I've posted...

you got it wrong: my computer is my own, i decide what is good and what not. the idea of having someone else decide based on what the avarage joe 'may' like is totally out of question. computers today are more personalized than everything else (like a taylored suit), and noone should evr consider listening to what a computer says. a computer is a tool, not the operator, it should do what the op says, and not tell the op what to do. and this is not whining about ms, although i have plenty of reason to do so.
btt, using tha cash in the eve program folder:

does setting lua to off do something else?

Please give us a flag to put capture and logs in with Local Settings (or better yet wherever we please); putting random junk into My Documents is very annoying.
Some of us don't care about the contents of capture and logs, and as such would rather they just be tucked away with cache/etc instead. -- 一遍、死んで見る? |

The capture and logs folders are now permenantly moved to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\EVE
This means that I would need to actually get about 3 GIGABYTES! more space to the partition that has my D & S folder (Yes, I got an insane amount of logs + screenies)
I understand that you want to conform to Vista "requirements" but please note that those who run their system with a highly specialised settings (like mine: 10G system drive w/ XP Pro, 10G D & S drive, etc...) are screwed by this.
Unacceptable... Give us an option to keep the current system where everything game related is in ONE directory.
This change might actually be the one that forces me to quit playing Eve... As sad it is.

Please write an option in the "prefs.ini" file where you can write the path !!!
Some people optimize the system drive for speed and storage the data on another drive !!! Second, the system partition can be corrupt more easly than another !!! You have a lots of I/O on the system partition. It's really NOT good to place by default the cache in "docs & sets" !!!

The only workaround what I found so far to separate your logs is the following: Let's take that your EVE home directory is: C:\Program Files\EVE Create a My Documents directory in this directory. ( C:\Program Files\EVE\My Documents )
Create a starteve.cmd file put this as a content:
set USERPROFILE="C:\Program Files\EVE" Start "eve" "C:\Program Files\EVE\eve.exe" /end /LUA:OFF Exit
And now run the starteve.cmd
Side effects: If the My Documents directory is not existing, or the USERPROFILE setting is incorrect, then when you start the program, you do not get the login screen, but the program is running in the background. You need to kill it with a task manager.

I'll sixth this... please CCP, I want to decide by myself where I want my settings and screenshots... I really don't like software which does things who are not logical. And storing Gigs of Logs and Screenshots in C: drive is very unlogical.
I love Microsoft, Bill Gates and Windows (YA RLY!) but the datastore management in general is bad and absolutely wrong not worth to copy it.

Aye, I'll seventh... that.
I do not want files stored anywhere where "Microsoft" wants them to be but where I, and only I, want them to have.
Can't even understand why you force XP users to this as well. I'm playing EVE for almost 2 years on XP now and never ever got any compatibility issues.
Please, give us an option to turn all this off and just stick with the old system without any command line parameters or crazy batch file workarounds!
Please...

This is part of the Vista compatibility changes.
This is VERY stupid! I've never seen or heard such ridiculous way of solving a compatibility issue. How will it help to make your game more Vista compatible and mess it up for everybody else?
I want my EVE clients to stay WITHIN their folders on drive D on my pc, NOT C, AND DEFINATLY NOT IN 2 OR MORE SEPERATE FOLDERS FOR THE SAME STUPID INSTALLATION OF EVE!

The command line parameter options to force data staying where it is didn't work for me. That caused 2 clients on PC B not be able to login until I removed the parameters again - that caused one client on PC A to completely get broken, so I had to install a new one.
So I was forced to allow data storaged on C: if I wanted to be able to play eve. C: is the last place where I want to have this data, as I only have Windows itself on C:, the swap file, and some free space for temporaray files. The eve data massive cuts down that spare space. I even don't have my documents on C: drive- I have D: for regular software, E: for games, F: as a big file archive. So eve data should be on E: for me, not C:.
Give us a way to MOVE BACK the data and settings where it was before! And keep in mind that some of us now have merged the settings of 2 or more clients on C:. If its not possible to separate them again, then give us a tool to relocate the settings and cache to two or more different locations of clients as it is, without separating them. But once when they are copied to the different client locations, they can be modified separately again at least.

Is there any way at all to have my second account function properly running vista? I had to do a complete reinstall to get my first account to work, but now my second account does all the same bull****. The idiocy of this attempt to comply with vista's security model is epic.
I still can't understand why the **** CCP changed the way EVE operated under Vista. Everything worked perfectly before. Now it's been two weeks since the patch with no feedback at all. What possible purpose was served by breaking your subscriber's ability to play eve?
And running a program written by a company that borked their own client as admin is not an acceptable "fix" to the problem. _____ Heat Warfare |

I don't have Vista (and will not get it) but know it will be no compatibility issues if it should be as before. Please give me control over my files and don't clutter my "My Documents" folder with things that not belong there since EVE best game I've played so far. My 4 accounts will be inactivated until I see it be solved, if not.... well have to find new game to play then. |
