In a month ill be moving to work for 3 months in another country. The conditions are as they are and I will be unable to take my laptop with me, though i believe that in the place ill be in there will be some computers :D
What im asking is if anyone have ever tried installing eve on a pendrive or just copy it from c:/prog files/ccp/eve (like making a test server copy).
Will this EVE-pendrive run on any computer that has a connection to internet?

As stated above - Yes.
However, ensure you scale down the resolution to 1024 *768 before you copy it over so that whatever PC you plug your stick into can be pretty sure to display the screen.

yep, I do it times when i go away from home. make sure your pen drive has fast data transfer speeds, so your game isn't lagged.

Yup, it'll run fine.
I think you can actually fit it on a 1GB pendrive if you compress the drive.

Just don't forget to clear out the 2 year backlog of chatlogs and combat logs before you copy it and you'll be fine :)

I would advise against compressing onto a 1 gig drive as the pc your going to run it on is going to spend a fare amount of time uncompressing and compressing bits of the game it needs at the time, This in turn will make it very slow running.

Actually, compression usually speeds it up as CPUs are fast enough nowadays that decompression takes much less time than the time you save due to the smaller filesizes.
It isn't as if you'll be writing any files other than the cache/logs anyways!

besides, eve is slow anyway. you could probably run it off floppies and not notice too much slowdown.

I copied my eve folder to my iPod to run it from work. It works great.

Pen drives usually have a high but limited number of read/write you can do on it, and Eve writes in the cache folder a lot.

Not that much, actually--it almost never deletes anything from the cache, and the cache rises at the rate of a few megabytes a day. You'll do more writing putting EVE on the drive than EVE will do to the cache in a month.

a 2gig usb stick only costs about a tenner anyway, so its hardly going to break the bank if it fails after a year.
what happens when eve tries to cache content onto a full drive anyway? if you pad the remainder of the space it couldn't make any writes.

I've had it happen when using a RAMDisk with limited size. All that happens is that no more portraits show up and EVE stops caching machonet information. This means that bios, market data, transaction data, order data, etc are not cached and have to be reloaded each time they're viewed.

If the drive is full when eve tries to write? I'm guessing something bad, probably a client crash.

I've run EVE just fine off of a flash drive in the past. Make sure to clear your cache.

If anybody is worried about nuking their usb stick running eve off it they can just...
fsutil file createnew FileName SizeInBytes
from a dos prompt replacing FileName and SizeInBytes with whatever they fancy. Bingo! No more writes. There is blatantly a linux command to do this too, but i'm relieved to say i don't know it off the top of my head.
