Places where friendly or even enemy players can take their best ships and dual it out without fear of being destroyed.. or perhaps even test new weapons etc.
Essentially every 1.0 or 0.9 system could have this 'special space' where weapons do no damage, yet ammo and capacitor does get used up when you fire and 'virtual' hit points are calculated up to a kill etc.
This would be a nice location to test out new jamming skills and missiles without fear of your opponent actually damaging your ship.

Instead have some stations contain an arena. Somone rents out a slot in it (like a factory or lab) and sets a password. Anyone who has the password can jion. Once the match is ready it is just like a real fight except at the end there are no losses.

Dear god NO! What is so great about EVE is the risk of actually losing something against your will if you're not careful enough! It adds spice! Don't try n rob that from us!

-f this is to be implemented, I have an idea of another approach : Ammo that won't hurt the opponent, and a way to calculate how much damage that would have been done if it was real ammo.
Just an idea, and probably too complex to be implemented, but someone might find a way to modify it into useability...

If not a 'safe' mode for testing combat tactics, then a definitive way of telling Concorde that a particular group is intending to shoot at each other and that they should stay the hell out of it ...
I've lost sec status before by testing a missile against a member of my gang and only got out with my ship because it was fast enough to run away.

That's called a declaration of war. Why do you keep requesting stuff we've already got?
As for a safe mode: this is a role-playing game. It's not Worms in Space, where you just have a fight to see who wins, then start over and have another one. If that's the sort of game you want to play, you're welcome to do so (I enjoy them myself) .. but you're in the wrong place. Instead of trying to ruining the game for ppl who actually like it, go find the type of game you want to play and be happy there.

Just for some players the idea of an Arena might be nice.
And as mentioned above, have it be a service in a station - virtual reality.
Chaos is more for testing the game itself, and was never really indended to be a place where people could test loadouts (though they allow people to do just that).
The arena could be set up in a way where you could, based on your skills, choose a ship and loadout you want to test, then go into the arena.
Maybe even make it a sport, people could go into the arena just to watch... Or make it somewhere in the system in space, where the players had holograms representing their ships (controlled by them in an arena pod in the station).
It's a good idea. However it would be a better idea when the devs are bored and have nothing to program at the moment.

Yeah that's all I mean, a virtual arena where you can tango with friends. Not a place that would allow corp wars or anything like that.
Some of you seem to be quite nasty individuals that spend too much time in doors ;).

OK, you tell me how I use a declaration of war for this. Am I a CEO? No. Do I actually want a corp vs. corp all out ? No.
I want a fight with a group of my RL mates without Concorde showing up.

I thought the test server was for testing stuff out? where you can have battles and you dont lose your ship. although i think u need 2 eve installs as the test server is running a different version to the main server.
thats just what i got told

Chaos is available for that, however that is not what it is intended for. It is intended for testing bugs in the upcoming patches.
It is only a desktop machine, and has a player load limit of 50.

Fight in 0.4 or lower system.
Good idea, it'd be great to set up a ship in a training situation where there are no losses (accept cost of using the service). I've long been agenst going to chaos just to test a PVP setup; I shouldnt have to install eve twice.
Even tho I dont have to, I could take a buddy out and fight mega to appoc and just tell them to stop at 15-20% hull but thats not much fun. Eve lacks the ability to PVP without the need to do weeks of work to catch back up. In the actual eve enviornment, yes, you should be able to be blown up by a pirate and corp wars should have actual losses. Yet the ability to duel agenst a friend or combatant is missing.
Yes a quick frigate battle is possiable but unless you've been playing the game for months on end and have a couple battleship in stock, you wont want to loose a multi-million isk asset which, in most respects, will take several days to replace just to play a little PVP. Heck, make it player owned!
Make a dead-end system off the back end of the Citedel controled by a player-corp (yes the entire system) dedicated to creating fighting arenas. NPC "cops" are player controled, if you get on their KOS list and enter their system, they will pod you (or try too). Couple player-owned stations complete with factories and research facilities.
Heck, that idea alone would put a whole new spark in EVE. It would require an unlimited number of ships be given to that corp (no im not crazy, ships given out for fights are tagged and cannot use the stargate). A tagged arena area, bring your own modules or purchase them at the market avalable within the system, player referees, etc.
The idea would require some heafty programming and/or setting up but I for one would love to run or even just use an area such as that! Eve's lacking more player-to-player interaction. NPCs are great, they keep the game linear so its easy to modeate, control and change but Eve is *SO* linear now that its killing the game play.
Got a little off topic, sorry about that, just had a spurt of idea :)

How about testing loadouts on Chaos, the test server? I do that all the time, and if u join Fight Club Corp, you have huge amounts of everything at your fingertips. Yesterday I fought m0o 7vs10 and they pwned us even though we were outnumbered , but no loss since this was on chaos.
If you have not tried it, plz read the rules in the patch review forum. |

Edited by: Chade Malloy on 12/01/2004 11:03:28 two thumbs up for the "Virtual Reality" system.
And for the ones who think this would ruin the gameplay or something like that - this very same system worked before in the MMORPG "JumpGate". On every Station you could enter the "Sim-mode", and could launch into some free-for-all space arenas, which basically consisted of some asteroids and a station. This "Sim-System" connected every station, so if player A joined arena B on station C, player D on station E could also fly in the very same arena B and train with player A. You could test every ship, loadout and weapons. It was the perfect training ground, the ppl accepted it but the fights in "real" didnŠt become less, the "Sim-Mode" even raised their quality.
Patience wins. |

You just have to make it so that in these systems there are no station to which you can dock and unload to make money w/o risk. i suggested something very similar a while back, and it seems alot of people are calling for it. A way to get away from the tenseness of the game and to relax. its a good idea fullstop. though there are pros and cons to every situation arises and i do see it from their point of view. It just means CCP have to sit down and think about their concerns and what can be implemented with this to vanquish those concerns.
