Pretty easy question I can't find the answer to. The hacking & archaeology skills are used for various exploration sites, this I know. What I don't know is this: does each level of the skill increase your chances of finding something in the container's in the exploration sites, or does it just increase the chances of being able to open the container?
Example: yesterday I found a hacking site, shot the rats, went to the three containers, accessed each one, and every one was empty. My Hacking is at level 2. If I increased the level, would it make it more likely that the containers would have something in them, or would it just mean it would take less time to open each container?
I hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance. -------------

i dont know about archeology skill, but for hacking each lvl increases the chance of "how fast" you can hack the container. the pawn item is server controlled.

I've heard reports of players with higher lvl skill openening the same can someone previously reported as empty and finding loot....
I really don't know if that's the truth, just a rumour. ***

i've had cans I couldn't open with lvl 1 and lvl 2 in arc/sal/hacking had to get a corpmate with lvl 4 to come get it
as for the stuff vs no stuff, I havn't seen anything that when I opened had nothing but when a corpmate opened had something

i have level 3 and today I tried to salvage a true sansha wreak which I was unable to, therefore im sort concluding that its only time and ability to salvage that it is affected by the skill level
however I would love to know the offcial verdict

Edited by: Belloc Slunv on 12/07/2007 13:08:24 If I remember correctly (I don't personally use the hacking and arch skills, but work on the side with my mate who does) level 4 will open all containers currently in the game. For hacking and arch, I believe items are server controlled for each player (your buddy can hack a can, then you can, and you might get something different) and for salvaging it decreases the likelihood of salvaging failure.
EDIT: Actually, I think all of the skills decrease the liklihood of failure for their respective containers, not just salvaging. Though I am still to belive that for hacking/arch it's server controlled items - where you might open the container successfully, but nothing to be there.

Hacking, Archeology skill only changes how fast you may open it. you may need higher levels to open some containers
Salvage - the skill only affects how fast you can salvage however you will need it at higher levels to salavge T2 and faction and larger ships [i.e. BS] -- BIG Lottery, BIG Deal, InEve & RaTTuS Home

Can anyone give me an idea of what the loot is like? Anything lorelike?

In 0.0 you'll find Encryption skillbooks, T2-Rig BPCs/Parts, T1-RigParts and Faction-POS-Stuff in Archeology-Plexes.
Hacking-Plexes give Interface-BPCs (Data/Tuner/Ship), the Items required to build them, Datacores and Encrypters.
Every rat-faction has each own set of items;... what kind of T2-Rigs or the corresponding Encryptionskill (e.g. angels give Minmatar skill, sansha amarr, etc.).
No clue, what you get in low/hisec-space.

The Encryption books are found in empire as well. The towers spawn loot every 20 minutes. It seems each location is divided into three groups of eight towers, one tower always takes much longer to spawn than the other seven but doesn't drop better loot for the most part. ------------------------------------- You are all worthless, and weak.

Another edit: I just got this email from my friend reguarding hacking/arch/salvage:
The increase in hacking and arch skills increases the chance of opening a can and also increases the amount of potential booty that's retrievable.
Increasing salvage skill decreases the chance of failure, and unlocks salvagability of larger ships, i.e. Salvage lvl1 won't let you salvage a BS wreck.
Skills increase the speed to open. And if a container is empty it has been looted or has not spawned.
And if your buddy hacks and loots a container its done till the next spawn, you cannot hack it again with another person and get another drop. ------------------------------------- You are all worthless, and weak.
