I'm on a wicked fast connection, and no matter what happens, if I lose my ship, I lose my pod. Every time. You never seem to get control before you're scrammed and can warp. Ever.
What's up with this?

Yep, that's what I do, I target the first (presumably) safe place before my ship goes Kablam! and hammer the Warp button rapidly. Never failed me.

If you get caught by interceptors , it's not surprising...
Lag upon explosion comes from your own hardware. Some people disable effects to reduce it. Most rely on the spam warp trick. Generally , you have more than enough time to warp when killed by a cruiser or bigger.

Try turning off wallet and mail blink. The killmail and insurance payment blinks were the culprit on my machine, since I turned off those two effects I've had no trouble warping out.

No, works as intended.
A bubble stops the warp at the bubble edge and then drags the ship inside the bubble depending on it's inertia. ie. bigger ships go deeper into the bubble.
A pod practically instawarps (or has no inertia), thus it warps to the edge of the bubble and is then able to warp out almost immediately.

Blame the client.
Ever seen the lag that happend when you open Market ? You literaly freeze in space.
Now with a ship destruction, following things happen:
1. kill mail 2. insurance payment 3. session transition (change of ship stats to pod stats)
This makes the client go ooomph and behave the same as you open a Market window - freeze. Check that out simple by ejecting from ship and boarding again. You get almost the same 1-2 second lag. Any larger data load makes the client lag/freeze.
Actualy there's little you can do. WTZ spam on a preselected object is the only solution.

Your connection speed is pretty much irrelevant to EVE as soon as you get above 56k modem speeds.
Response times might be relevant in some situations but no guarantee at anything, i have a response time around 25ms to the EVE cluster and it really doesn't help much. Especially not when i am shot out of my ship, the client will reload all kinds of useless stuff and freeze during the time you normally have to warp your pod out. If you are lucky the freeze won't interfere with warping out, usually it does.
This problem has existed since forever though. The only trick i try to use is to select a warpable object before my ship blows up and spam the warp-to icon before, during and after the explosion. -- .sig apathy ftw |

Ejecting is for the less-intelligently endowed. If youre in a bubble your dead anyways. If youre not, you can always make it out. Questions?

Hi Robert.
There is a broken mechanism you can use*.
Like they said already, just before you pop, spam Warp To <something>.
When you come out you insta-warp. They can't even try to lock you as you come out invulnerable to locking. Eventually your enemies stop bringing pod catching ships though. Which just means more full combat ships you'll be facing from the outset.
It's a bit depressing to have zero chance to lock a pod, but meh... they don't drop loot, and my morgue has the only corpse in it that I actually wanted.

One easy tactic for getting your pod out is to select a warpable object in space before you die and then just spam that button as your ship goes down in flames. You pod will warp out straight away unless you're in a bubble. ------------

You want to know how to survive?
If you are 100% sure you are going down, EJECT before your ship blows up, and warp away with the POD
Everyone will be shooting your ship and too busy to care about the POD on the overview.
And don't worry, they wont get your ship, they wont notice you left until its too late
and even if they yell hold fire, theres always some idiot that doesnt

Align somewhere, click on it and spam warp. At the very least, you'll get your pod out. At the very luckiest, your opponent may run out of cap or drop scram, in an attempt to go after your pod and you'll warp away. If you've got multiple pts on you, warp to a moon.

why do you have to hope someone ejects? That is stupid.
Just ransome them and tell them to eject and let them go and get every ship.
But then again I guess they might say go ahead and kill me.

i find it odd that nobody mentioned ctrl-Q yet (yeah i know it's lame). it should insta-warp out your POD as soon as your ship pops.
question about ejecting: do you still get your insurance if they blow up your ship? does your insurance void if someone else steals it after you eject?
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
Well, for one thing the target(victim) doesn't receive insurance if he is ejected and the aggressor stops shooting.
So lets say you're in a raven... and u hit eject at something percent structure... shooter stops firing... you won't get insurance on that ship. AND HE gets the ship/loot/insurance of the ship.
Hence why ejecting from your ship is a bad and (stupid) idea. ----------------------------------------------
If you hit "Self-Destruct" BEFORE you eject, the ship will blow up after the countdown regardless.
So, once you're sure you're gonna die, hit Self-Destruct, THEN Eject and run.
Edited by: Laboratus on 30/05/2007 14:33:21 Either just hammer the warp button. Pods instawarp, so you should get away before they can load your pod. Or. Eject and start hammering the warp button. They need to deactivate scramblers, wait until module deactivates, click your pod to lock it, select your pod, and only then will they be able to scramble it. Usually, you are 2-3 seconds gone before they manage to do it. And most of the time your ship goes boom and you get insurance (since calling off drones and getting everyone to deactivate guns takes a while. Usually too long...
Oh, right. Remember to set your default warp to distance to something else than 0km. Ceptors warp faster than you do, and as such will be waiting for you if you do warp there. ___ P.S. Post with your main. Mind control and tin hats |
