I've been reading through threads on this, and it seems to break down into this for why Caldari and Amarr are currently sucking it up in the solo PVP area.
Caldari can't tank and pvp, it's just how it is.
Amarr on the other hand can't pvp and maintain CAP, too few mid slots to fit the necessary equipment and a cap booster (only three mids usually).
Gallente, have more then enough mids and no cap issues due to the ability ot fit nos while having drones more then pick up the slack for lost turrents.
Minmatar also don't have cap issues with many configurations (missles/autocannons) while still having enough mids to fit the magical three items.
What are the magical three items? AB/MWD, Web, Scram. All are mid slots, all are necessary for dictating range and making sure your opponent doesn't escape.
Some different solutions posed so far in many threads.
1. Make them fitable in lowslots also.
2. Give Ammar more mids, give Caldari players second accounts so they can have something to hold a player down with out giving up their tank. (haha, yea right).
3. Limit people to one of the items at a time except interceptors/interdictors. No more solo pvp for anyone.
4. Get rid of the "high/medium/low" slots and actually make ships have slots for different modules in certain area's such as "Weapons, engineering, electronics, defensive systems, etc etc". This breaks a ships Tank away from it's effect on other modules and would make ships much more interesting to fit. But it would basically be like Eve 2 due to the balancing needed to fix this.
5. Utility slots, not as drastic as #4, just a forth row for items that are necessary to PVP that shouldn't be screwing over only two races.

I don't think such a huge change is needed but instead some tweaking on the current system should be fine. That said I am training a rapier alt (my main's *****) to follow my raven around and be the extra mid slots I don't have. Personally I'd love to see a combat oriented Caldari BS with 8 mid slots, that would make a fine solo boat (I know there's the scorp, but it's more of a support ship).

My opinion is that you need to learn more about pvp :)
Each race has it's own speciality, mix it and you have a winning team.

Comparing ships to other races ships, Caldri seem to have a bad deal yet the description of Caldri interested me.
I've not tried pvp but pve is hard enough for me at the moment as I can't find a ship/setup to tank with.

Thorax: 3 mids. How's that different from most Amarr ships? There are only a few Gallente drone ships. Usually Gallente ships have more drone space, but on the other hand other race's ships usually have more high slots.
I don't see a big general problem tbh.
Not every PvP ship needs web and scram. EVE isn't all about solo PvP. Thus making every ship solo PvP'able, or thinking that every ship should be viable for solo PvP is wrong in that it ultimately reduces variety and differences. As long as there are more than one or two options, everything is fine, at least for me. I'd rather reduce the need for web and scram. Perhaps longer/fixed time to warp, perhaps less speed reduction from webifiers.
At any rate I wouldn't sacrifice diversity, racial concepts or anything else for solo PvP. It's a multiplayer game after all.
Luostsol, Caldari ships are by far the easiest in PvE. You must be doing some things completely wrong.

CCP read this and fix the racial concepts (descriptions/pictures/colors/importance of attributes)! It's important that all starting choices are equally attractive, as well as important things like PvE viability. Otherwise the game is going to be one-sided soon.

I hope your not using cillvian boosters :P my friend started out and told me the same thing, not being able to tank I asked to see his set up cillvian shield booster civvlian guns
there really is a difference :P

Not too sure on the exact setup but could tell you when i get home but it is on the lines of ...
Kestrel 3x standard missle launcher using 3 different type warheads 1x salvager 1
cpu processor 50mm plating
1mw afterburner ecm small shield recharger
With that setup I can only take on around 4 ships Merlin size or less.

Maybe the amarr homepage could be given two sexy girls to attract new players in the amarr race! Monks tend not to bring the average online player to select this image!
Back to the basic topic...
There are many gallente ships that don't fit for solo PvP. Also, a corpmate made a decent nano shield tanked hyperion (yes, you read that!) that still surprises and scares many people in PvP (allies and ennemies).
If all the ships were intended for solo PvP, they would need 4 med slots (AB/MWD + scrambler + web + cap booster) + med slots to tank (for shield tankers)...
No cruiser fits these needs, and I'm not even talking about EW cruisers trying to do anything (tbh they are not made for solo PvP)! Other cruisers tend to have a hard time doing all that at once! EW cruisers may have more med slots, but they don't hold enough firepower to do something solo... And the damage dealer cruisers don't have enough med slots (most have 3).
For the BCs, only the tier 2 BCs except the drake would fit this need.
For the BSs, Maelstrom can't as it is shield tanked with 6 med slots, Armaggedon has 3 med slots, Raven has same issue as maelstrom, scorpion is not supposed to be a damage dealer... It may look the caldari are left crippled on this, but, they have the best fleet BS and the only EW battleship that is the only EW ship with really long range ability.
You won't solo pvp in BS with caldari and have a good tank, but you get to be really useful in a gang.
All those ships that are unable to solo PvP get really great when with a balanced gang.
Maybe it's just EVE isn't a place for too much solo PvP. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! Happy owner of a Vexor Navy Issue and few ishkurs. The Vexor Navy Issue is much more fun than the Myrmidon ! |
