I was given a vigilant by my corp ages ago and have enjoyed flying with some reasonable pvp success (for a cruiser).
I thought i might step it up a gear and fly a deimos, but unsure whether the added dps and resists outwiegh the better turret tracking and extra midslot of the vigi, where i fit a medium cap injector to combat the nos. the vigi has smaller sig and is quicker also.
My current set up for vigilant;
Hi - 4x heavy neutron II, 1x medium electron II (with void).
mids - named MWD, named web, named scram, named injector (800's)
Lows - Medium rep II, 2x EANM II, 1x Reactive II, Magstab II (if using active tank..thermal, kinetic, explosive hardeners)
3x ancillary current router and 5 hammerhead II's damage modifier of x8.6 tracking 0.165 rads, optimal 4.3 km.
it's mainly used in small EW cruiser gangs but solo aswell.... so my question is - is it worth upgrading to a deimos?
ps ( i know a brutix is cheaper and probably better in the right hands  )
pps...flame if u wish, i really dont care  ....

yes. deimos is an amazing DPS outputter in the right hands :)
you will love its nice resists too, and cry due to the lack of 4th med slot.
Thing is, you can put magstabs instead of those hardeners. Of course, astarte is my fave <3 :P

Well if you like the thorax or vigilant, offcourse its worth it. I would say its worth a lot more because your can gank better and tank better. No capinjector though

But it is an incredible damage dealer for gangs. Problem is everyone knows you cant tank worth a crap and do lots of dmg so you make a very good primary...

For solo ? - No.
For gang ? - Yes.
My small expirience says: Deimos is more vulnerable then Vigi and even its resists can't save it. They are both clumsy, but Deimos is slow. Vigi with its tracking , gives you easy use of T2 ammo. I see only 2 achivments before Vigi: falloff, and damage , but i dont think its worth extra midslot.
Vigi - for solo.
Deimos - for gang.
Popularity of Deimos is mostly credit for its "prototype" - Thorax. Wich was cool until Hurri came  .
All this IMHO ofcourse.

I have a friend who is comtemplating the very same thing between the fleet stabber and vaga. I would say the difference is worth it tbh. the resists and dmg increase is really what matters imo. But, the pimp factor is a rather nice thing

I'll give the deimos a shot, it should supplement an EW gang nicely....

Fleet stabber is different though, that ship really has something going for it. You wont get engaged by 2 AF and 1 inty when flying a vagabond. You do when flying a f-stabber and people are looking for a nice killmail.

Forget about the lack of a mid slot on the Deimos. The only thing I would put in the fourth mid slot on a Vigilant is another Cap Recharger II. Because the Vigilants cap recharge can make a grown man cry.
The 6th hi-slot is excellent on the Deimos. With rigs, slap a Medium NOS up there, and that has many advantages. The Vigilant has a missle launcher, how much more pointless can it get?
The Vigilant used to be much cheaper than the Deimos, so it was well suited for an inbetween ship along the path to the Deimos. But, at the end of the day, for serious PvP I think most would still undock in the Deimos and leave the faction pimped Vigilant in the hangar as it's a serious financial liability in the field.
Just my thoughts on it. The same can be said about Ishtar vs. Navy Vexor
