Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 31/05/2007 19:37:04 Allrighty, i like doing these "wreck your brian" kinda threads, bear(roar) with me
So let's assume all the things in the game are fixed(current complaints that is). Would it mean that all was well, or would there still be ocmplaints? Is it possible to have a game that's a 100% complaint free? Or is it just player nature(different from human nature) to complain about things to make it seem like there's still something more to expect?
That's about it, flmae...ahem...discuss away!
Ah yes, forgot to mention that what would people talk about on general if this were true? Also, would a status quo, all fixed, mean that a game couldn't evolve?

Aye its possible. You wont like the solution though. If everybody who has a complaint quits, there will be no complaints after a while.
Me for instance i quit after the freigher imbalance. Playing eve for months to afford to buy my first freighter, and then learning that they were destroyed in 38 seconds, isnt balanced in my book.
Especially if the Suicide players get full refunds for their ship.
I thought about just not using freighters, which was the sensible solution. But thats just saying you let others influence how you play...
Go ahead flame all you want, this is my last post here.

Never. And also dont forget that compromises usually leaves both sides unhappy, and leads to mediocre things.

The world we live in is not perfect and as such, perfection is impossible.
EVE itself is very much like a see-saw. You please one group of players, the other's going to get a bit tetchy. Take a look at cloaking and the Local Channel:
One group wants to see cloaking nerfed, but local left alone. Another wants cloaking left alone but local nerfed. A third group wants both nerfed, and a fourth group wants them both left alone. Then there's the fifth group that couldn't care less about either.
How are you going to please them all?
(Actually, as I typed that, I had a thought. You can have a complain-free game, but it would require it being made player-free to succeed) (On another note, if EVE was perfect, wouldn't you find it boring?)

How could it be possible?
If there was only 1 player in EvE it'd be easy but with 100,000's of players the very idea makes no sense :P
People ask for different things so how could you give everyone what they wanted. Paradox much?
Carebears want it one way, pirates the other and the allaince boys just wanna blow everything up.

Yeah i knew the answer basicly to the "is it possible", more i think was curious on what the effects of such a game would be.
If all was well, there was nothing to complain about, would it make the game stay still and slowly die down 'cause basicly you couldn't add anything or change anything.

Remember all the Nerf Caldari threads?
People will never be completely happy. There will always be something someone complains about.

Well, if such a thing were possible I think people would just play the game and the forums would probably be dead.

The short answer: No. The long answer: Nooooooooo.
ok, more constructive: People are too different. If some prefer coffee and others prefer beer, then you won't make everyone one happy by serving coffee mixed with beer. Ok, stupid example, maybe I try again later. --------------------------------------------- *snip* |

If you play counter strike, and you shoot someone in the head a few too many times, they start whining and calling you a hacker.
If you play eve and your alliance is too strong for the newbie kids to deal with, they whine on the forums calling you cheaters.
It's funny in CS. It's annoying here.

Only if you take it one step further than CCP. While CCP has no tech support line, their mistake is in allowing in-game petitions for help. Get rid of that, and any helpful or negative forum posts, and your there. It's a complaint free game if no one has a way to complain. |

I'm pretty sure it's impossible for someone else to make a game that satisfies 100% the requirements of an individual. You could make your own game and try to satisfy your needs, but from my own experience I've never really played a game or written a program that I didn't have a list of things I didn't like about it. MMOs are more vulnerable to this since new content must be frequently generated.
If CCP managed to entirely clear their list of "things to add to Eve" and completely eliminated lag, they'd have one of two choices:
1) Decide Eve is finished and face complaints of boredom once everyone can fly everything. 2) Add more content and face complaints because "it was good enough before".
So I guess I am trying to say in a roundabout way "no".

Yes, it is possible to have a complaint-free game. However, this would require some form of mind control of the players. --------------------------------------------------------------------

"Wreck" my "Brian"?
You stay the hell away from my brian, you floo! And speelcechk is ur firend.
So, no, complaint-free games are impossible, as I must complain about your lack of proper dictionary facilities.
Without complaint, people would only talk about new features they thought up, and they'd have to do it without providing proof of concept or a reasonable argument, because all features are based on a fundamental complaint of inaccessibility/ease of use/necessity.
