Okay, I have a need to get a load of stuff from empire to NPC 0.0 space. I'm planning on making a run just after downtime at some point in the not so distant future.
So here's the question... what's the best way to go about this in terms of ship and fitting?
1) Use a mammoth. I'm already trained for them now and the ship itself isn't expensive. If I go this route should I take more trips and max out on Warp Core Stabilizers (four), should I go with 4 cargo extenders, or should I do 2 of each? Will the mammoth be able to survive the pounding it takes while alligning even with WCS's? Travel between empire and my destination is around 20 jumps.
2) Train for 30 days and fly a mastadon. Would cost quite a bit more than a mammoth, so losing it would be a lot more annoying. As a transport it can take a bigger pounding. Still not sure how many WCS's would be reasonably safe.
3) Make multiple trips in a WCS fitted "combat" ship. I've never had problems moving anything up through BC's through even fairly sizeable gatecamps with max WCS's installed. Haven't tried BS's though. This would be a LOT more time consuming though as the cargo holds are much smaller.
4) Train for 4-5 months for a carrier (which I might not even be able to afford by that point) and jump the goods in. Obviously the safest in terms of potential to get ganked, but extremely time consuming and expensive in terms of fuel. Also need help to get cynos formed.
5) Freighter? I really have no desire for this one and I think it would just be a juicy target to go pop should I take it into 0.0.
Any thoughts?

if you're around after downtime there's not much to worry about, be at the gate just before downtime so you can go through straight away, fit some wcs for extra safety and you'll be fine.

hmmm ... maybe have someone scout for you?
because, if you get more points on you than you have wcs, then you shouldn't have taken so many cargo expanders, but if you are killed on the last run because you fit too many wcs, then you didn't have enough expanders before and if you have no points on you but are bumped to hell it wasn't enough inertia stabs, mkay?
I mean seriously, how can it not depend on what you run into? Can't fit for everything, so go the scout route and minimize risk like that. Apart from that, sensor boosters + sensor damps and inertia stabs are your best friends imho (maybe combined with an ecm burst or so). Depends on if you expect to run into smaller tacklers or bigger stuff.
Really doesn't matter what ship you fly, if you run into the wrong gatecamp or mofo on the other side of gate, you're dead, that's it. The descision on that is done when you fit yours and they fit their ship, and when luck or bad fate makes you two meet in game..... so anyways... did I mention "use a scout"?

Why not jsut ask a corpie with a carrier to jump your stuff up? Usually something fair like fuel costs + 20mil will get someone willing to help.
If not then a regular hauler with warpstabs and i-stabs in the lows and a decent passive shield tank in the mids then make abreak for it right after DT. -----

Blockade runners are way better than transports for moving stuff in and out of 0.0. Transports, with their lower speed but higher capacity, are better at moving stuff around once youre already in 0.0 space, past the choke points. If you expect to encounter a camp though, blockade runner is a better bet.

If you land inside a bubble with a couple of cruisers/battlecruisers, there is no warpcore bonuses or fitted stabs that will save you from getting blasted to oblivion.
On the other hand, a scout might come in handy. _______________________

No, but going 2.5k per second while having enough tank to tank those cruisers/battlecruisers for a few seconds will. My alt loves his Viator.
