I've run level 4's in a Myr, a Domi and a Drake, and I've found that a passive-tanked Drake is the efficient and reliable for me (ofc, YMMV). But while it's up to the task, I must admit that it's a bit slow due to a lack of DPS. For various reasons, I am shunning the traditional solution of moving to a Raven, so while I was looking for other possibilities, I considered Command Ships. I'm was hoping to get the best of both worlds: a) a nice mission runner and b) a ship that can help my corpmates (warfare links, etc.)
So the logical extension of the Drake seems to be the Nighthawk, but considering that the nighthawk has *less* hi and mid slots, it looks like I wouldn't get any more DPS out of it, if any. I know that the increased resistances will make my tank more durable and allow me to allocate fewer slots to tanking, but I've already got 2 BCS II's in my drake -- will I really get any benefit out of 3? Or are there damage-enhancing rigs that are worthwhile that I can use and avoid devoting all my rig slots to CDFPs?
Since this would be a large investment in training time, I want to make sure it's worth it before I go down this road, so any feedback is welcome.

Well, nh gets a bonus to all damage not just kin, and even using kin performs marginally better than the drake. Though really the main thing is that the tank makes people weep, and the superior fittings and bigger pricetag seem to merit more faction mods. A full rack of dg heavies with 3 officer bcus is a very very scary thing. And since you're missioning you have no chance to lose em, so only makes sence.

Nighthawk has more tank and more damage. Especially since command ships aren't getting hit with the same passive tank nerf-bat so you havent the option of awesome passive or awesome active tanks.
And damage wise, the rate of fire bonus gives it the equivalent damage of 8 launchers and the same damage bonus to kinetic missiles you have now (assuming you only have BC 4 now and would only train commands to 4). Fitting another BCU does still make a fairly big difference, past 3 is where the boost is negligable. The explosion velocity bonus also makes a big difference when hitting smaller ships.
So yea, its worth it. Battlecruiser 5 is a very worthwile skill to train compared to many others, since it'll benefit your myrmidon too. And let you get to Eos or Astarte quicker.

Ah, I forgot the ROF bonus - that is something you don't appreciate until you get it (Rapid Launch FTW!) Also, I didn't realize the drop-off was at 3 -- for some reason I thought it was 2.
The explosion velocity bonus isn't that important since I usually use small drones for frigs anyway.

Yeah, I had considered the Eos or Astarte, but I've sworn off drones as major sources of damage until the bugs are fixed (if ever) and my gun skills just aren't that good.
But like you said, once you get one, the rest aren't as hard. Thanks for the feedback!

Nighthawk is a good ship for lev4 mission running mainly because of its tanking ability. The disadvantage is: your dps is crap... 330 with kint heavy missiles, and 300 or less with other missiles. Im currently tranining for an Eos.

Well, I love passive tanking and Pottsey, the Passive Tanking Master, flys an Eos and all things equal, it would be my first choice. But I just get so frustrated with replacing brain-damaged drones over and over again...

Get better skils/gear/implants or something...
DPS can go to about 400 with kinetic and 330 with the others (not using t2 missiles) and the fact that you'll do full damage to anything except drones and frigs will most likely beat any BS or other BC to the finish on a lvl4 mission. Of course there's astarte which does amazing damage but requires a totally different set of skills. If you're a drake runner and have specialized in missile warfare i'd go for the NH, but eventually I'd train for astarte/sleipnir (doing atm) for the boost in sheer firepower. And for maximum effect, active tank is the way to do it, frees up more space for damage upgrades. |

I've just started flying an Astarte with a full rack of 250mm II, two damage mods, and a 5% to hybrid turret damage implant. It is MADE OF AWESOME. Did Serpentis Extravaganza L4 in under an hour.

Problem being that this is nothing special lol.
Anyway, the Nighthawk is a decent L4 ship, probably better than the cookie-cutter cruise Raven. It doesn't hold a candle to the torp CNR though.
The only non-Raven thing that also runs missions in true turbo mode is an Abaddon against Blood/Sansha/Drones. But you seem rather Gal/Caldari specced, so you are sol. Either Ravenkin or loss of efficiency. And smallest loss of efficiency is probably the Nighthawk.
Thank you SkyFlyer!
