EVE Forums = Life Sucker?

Ticondrius Gallente	Posted - 2007.06.02 04:11:00 - [1] I was feeling generally good, finished a long day of work and kinda tired and wasn't quite ready to go eat something, so I cam here to read up beofer going for food. Now I'm depressed, semi-suicidal and feeling highly apathetic. WTF is with this place? I logged into the game to change skills after reading the forums a bit, and thought maybe to go play. But I found myself wondering what to do, and hohum...so boring..useless..no point..hohum. How can forums so completely suck joy and life out of a person? This is crazy. Deepspace Wanderer	Posted - 2007.06.02 05:03:00 - [3] It's mostly becasue the forums have become a steaming cesspit of trolling, flaming, accusation, counter-accusation, paranoia, hate-mongering, fear-mongering and rabid polarization. The moderate, reasonable posts/views quickly get buried beneath a wall of white noise. And that's AFTER the mods have done their job. I'm sure you could post on the bloody ship setup thread nowadays, and get a response along the lines of "A goonie set up his ship like that once, you must be a goonie NOOB lolol !!111one" or "I saw a Bobbite (probably written as BoB..except with a D at the end instead of the B) set up a ship like that OMGDEVHAX!!!11one11" And that makes me sad. Disagreements and arguments are natural, and a good portion of what these boards are about, but the (extremes of the) community is so f'n polarized right now, that the reasonable posters are (more often) keeping silent. We cannot expect perfection, but we should strive for it in all ways, for there is no failure in the attempt, the only true failure is never having tried at all.

It quite possibly has something to do with mirror neurons. If you perceive the forums to be full of angry, hateful smacktards then reading them will make you feel angry and hateful. I regard the forums as another PvP environment, one with rather special rules. If you focus on evaluating each poster's technique and skills, then it takes a lot of the sting out of it. Plus, by regarding everybody as a forum warrior who is trying to do their best, you become a forum warrior ------ Agony Unleashed is recruiting.
