I'm kinda new to the game and wanna start pirating some. I heard ore thieving is a decent way to make some money illegally solo, but not quite sure how to find good places to look. I floated around for a bit but couldn't find anything open.

If you wanna be a real pirate and learn how to be good at pvp, then look for a good pirate corp. Dont become an ore thief. It is stupid and taking advantage of others. The only thrill you get from pvping is having a good fight not robbing ppl.
I suggeest (if they let you since your new) join tillers corp, The Kleptomaniacs. They will definately teach you how to pvp.
And no, stealing ore doesnt make you good ore unless you get a good hauler which requires you to train up industrial skills which aint worth crap as a pvper.

My advice would be to pretty much ignore everything he just said.
Cept the trian for PvP part but might aswell steal Ore while ya do it ;)
And being able to fly a hauler is about the most universally useful skill in game. Almost everybodys gotta move stuff at some point, and mates arent always around, and it'll take all of 2 hours get indy to lvl 2.
As for targets, lone barges with cans, look for macros to if ya wanna actually make cash and not just annoy people. Some macros'll just stay minin and minin into a can you can rob over and over till you get bored =D
Macros will have funny random names usually with numbers in them, they wont respond to convos (or at least in English...), tend to have rats buzzin around'em and not care lol
As for a good pirate corp, they're hard find nowadays and not likely to accept new peoplez, Kleptos probably wont, you dont have the skillz to tank sentry guns yet

It all depends on what you wanna do. Stealing stuff makes you a thief not really a pirate. It's all okay to do such a thing.
If your main interest is making isk, and don't wanna do the work to obtain it "legally" then become the thief, till you lose interest.
If your main interest is learning the basics of pvp by trial and error go solo in a expendable ship.
If your main interest is learning the basics of pvp by survivability join a pirate corp. I have read that Kleptomaniacs grant access for newly players also since it doesn't take alot of skills to tackle people.
Not really familiar with all pirate aspects in eve - but I think if they aggress first they will tank for you. If you are solo, kill miners, or ransom them in belts in low sec.
I have never understood the need for ore thievery really, it seems just as tedious as mining itself, or the even more tedious - hauling - but to each his own.
There once were great pirate corps such as TunDragon and Teddybears who roleplayed - I personally found that very intriguing - as opposed to those pirates who just sits 7-xx number of peeps staring at a gate for endless hours hoping a fat hauler comes in, or some nub, or whatever.
Some pirates still claim that they still do the oldskool thing of fighting even when at risk of losing - Think Infod and S******dly fall into that category. Maybe the corp Exotic dancers still exists also - they are the denizens of Teddybears. Not sure if they accept newly players though.
All in all - its what you wanna do. Maybe try out all of the above. _____________________________________

Kleptomaniacs have a 8m SP base requirement , due to our specialization. We cannot recruit new characters.
Ore theft is good innocent fun , it's probably the best thing you can do in highsec as a starting pirate. Be sure to gang up with an older highsec pirate in a combat ship for extra griefing. Look for populated 0.5 systems with lots of belts , and use your scanner to locate jetcan miners. Then it's just a matter of warping away with their ore without being caught. Be sure to have a combat ship in your favorite thieving system , in case you get shot by a foolish miner - then you can come back and kill his ship freely.

My goal is to learn the basis of pvp, but running around solo I've not had any luck finding anything that isn't clearly suicide for me to attempt. Anyone have some advice when it comes to where to find solo pvp or what pirate (or pvp corp in general) excepts newer players? I'm content being a tackler and ending up cannon fodder all the time if it's what i have to do to get into the game.

read the posts and guides on initial piracy youl get a lot of useful setups for frigs and strategys u can do some low sec pirating or can flipping both fun to start you out u will lose some ships but everyone does so expect that and just be on the mentality of ur gona have some fun look around in high sec systems near jita with a lot of belts if ur in a pesky frig =p those mining barges will tack u with those drones and u can eat em up.

Agreed. No matter what you do in EVE being able to fly a hauler at at least some level is necessary. Personally I'd say L3 in hauler for someone who never really wants to fly one is the mark to shoot for but whatever works for ya. Yeah haulers may suck but they are damn useful.

Ore thieving is not really piracy, it's more..well thievery really
tbh..ore thieves are not respected much, as they do their dirty work mainly in high sec...so not much risk really, and a bit, meh
If you want to play piwat, learn to fly a T1 frig well, get some nice T2 guns for it and skill up on things like surgical strike, motion predict etc
Then go to low sec, and find a cruiser killing some npcs. (learning how to scan to 5 degree helps) Then scram web..pew pew. If you die trying, you dont lose much as you in a frig, but you might just kill that cruiser in your frig, and then you will be hooked.
Work your way up until you are comfortable taking on BS running missions or npc farmers in 0.0
Sig removed...coz like, you know sometimes I pirate...no, not pirating..err defending the gurista..yes that's the one |

LMAO ... oh wait, you were serious, weren't you ?
I can only feel sorry for you m8, for you have not lived the joys of blasting a miner, his back-up and ransoming his ore in the process. :(
