Do people use passive armour hardners over active armour hardners now? on ratting ships and on pvp? |

From what I know, it depends solely on how cap-intensive their setup is and whether an active hardener is *needed* over a passive one. For instance, if the rats aren't that hard hitting, you may favour a passive hardener over an active one if your tank is mostly reps and maybe you're using hybrid/energy turrets, therefore you want as much cap conservation as possible. Though, everything I've just said may need citing

Well, I can't say what "people in general" do, but I can tell you what I do.
I always fly an apoc. 2 armor reps and 3 hardeners. everything else is a cap mod or a gun. sometimes i throw in an AB for fun.

on my enyo i use a resistance plate (not even energized plate) purely due to fitting constraints if i want that second magstabII ;)
it still gives me enough resistance, so no worries

As has been mentioned above, its really a question of your Cap usage, personally i use a passive tank, i need every ounce of Cap for lasers and repping.

It depends on how tight your CPU is, and if you want to have your tank shut off if you get nossed dry.

Another thing to take into account is the Ship Boni, on a Myrmidon the tank bonus is 7.5%/lvl to armor reps (ingame spelling) so to best make use of this I use passive hardners and have all the cap being used by Armour reppers (English spelling).
I generally use the Myrmidon (BC 5) as a Mining Tank/Gang Bonus and can continously run 3 t2 MARs without NOS. Haven't found a standard NPC spawn that can break it.
Big flaws with that system is that a concentrated burst of damage can knock thu the Armour mid cycle and OC NOS/neuts are the major bain.

The Oxford English Dictionary uses 'bonuses' and quite frankly there are few higher authorities when it comes to the English language than the OED, so 'bonuses' it is. :P

Yes I understood your meaning, so I shouldn't complain too much. It just sounds funny. Add to that the fact that it actually isn't correct if you check the dictionary. Bonus isn't a latin word.

lol - I have seems to be very devided
I use boni (even though it may sound presumptious) as I prefere not to sound like a leaking gas main and it stops spittle from going all over the person I'm talking to (no comments, I have had half my face sewn back on)
back on topic
passive or active resistances do depend on what your preference is, I prefere passive as then I can concentraite all my cap on one thing ie. repping some peeps mix - in PvP for example some peeps use plate and active as it just needs to take alot of damage over a short time (esp if concentrating on gank) where as in PvE generally it is less instantanious dmg but over a longer period.
basically there is no 'correct' way just find your style but don't set it in stone, other ways can be just as effective.
to answer the query about the resistance skills - they are very useful, esp if passive; but can be a life saver if you run out of cap on an active tank, I have trained all up to lvl 4 - but again its all personal preference.

England and America are two countries seperated by a common language.
The latin is often dropped these days, especially for modern words. An example is that the plural of "virus" can be "virii" when applied to the animal version, but is correctly "viruses" when referring to the computer version.
Oh, and to answer the OP, I passive armour tank.

Edited by: Drizit on 04/06/2007 17:02:28 Damnation. Low T2 repper, cap recharger, 3 named active and a T2 damage mod. Mid T2 AB, named Webber, 2 named cap rechargers
CPU maxed out with the guns and missiles as well.
Along with a T1 cap recharge rig and my cap levels out at 30% with everything running as well as guns/missiles.
The only time I had trouble is with lvl3 Blockade when everything fired at me at once. The T2 repper couldn't keep up. Every other mission I can sit and tank everything without even firing a shot back. Go make coffee and take a leisurely stroll back to my seat and kill them all to end the mission.
Edit: spelling.
