If you go and read the DEV Blogs about the recent 'CCP are cheating in game' fiasco you will see why.
The short of it is alleged incidents of GS members spamming other sites with the accusations. I guess that would be why, trying to trash a company with unfounded rumours.

GS launched a denial of service attack against the EVE forums, which if they have evidence to support is a crime. In addition, intentionally spreading the rumors about dev corruption without going through the proper channels first is slanderous and that slander could hurt CCP's business without good cause. So yeah. The easiest way to 'fix' Eve is to ruin CCP's credibility in the industry, and totally BEEP ruin the launch and their White Wolf RPG by epic degrees of BEEP and griefing." -Dawnfiend, Goonswarm |

Now who's slinging about unfounded accusations?

If they are to be believed, they tried to go through proper channels and their correspondence was deleted without response.

Edited by: Trollin on 04/06/2007 17:13:11 ccp ruined their own credibility with the half baked way they handled previous incidents.
the goons where well within their rights as paying customers to complain en masse.
there will be no lawsuit over this, ccp isnt that dumb.
btw, props to ccp for having some pretty good tranparency with this last mess.
I expect in the future that GM's will be notifying CEO's before they decide to join up and make themselves directors. but thats a different thread. --------------------------------------------------- A word to the wise ain't necessary, its the stupid ones that need the advice |

It's not about 'spaceships', it's about Goonswarm openly admitting that their goal is to not only ruin customers enjoyment of a game... but to actually have a detrimental impact upon the financial welfare of CCP. Here is a quote -

"The easiest way to 'fix' Eve is to ruin CCP's credibility in the industry, and totally ******* ruin the launch and first few months of their White Wolf RPG by epic degrees of****gotry and griefing, so that the only thing they have left is Eve. Eventually someone will see them as a profitable takeover target, and a company that isn't run by ******s will buy them out. The headquarters for game development will be moved to a country that isn't populated by unprofessional ice nig***s." (Dawnfiend, post #1880)
Statements such as this one, and others that they've made, are well within the realm of legal action.

Hardly unfounded. The threadnaught resulted in these forums having to be taken offline because every thread in every forum, related to the issue or not, was spammed uncontrollably for over an hour before CCP pulled the plug. It was hit with so much traffic, it actually resulted in sticky threads becoming unsticky. The ability to hold any conversation around the allegation posts was impossible. In essense, their "signal" was so overwhelming as to become "static".
I don't care about their intent, I don't even care if they were right, what they did severely impacted the performance of this website and rendered it inoperable through overload. That is a textbook DDOS attack, regardless of motive.
This is my sig, there are many others just like it. With me, my sig is worthless. Without (or with even) my sig, I am worthless... |

No, it isn't. It would only be a DDOS if the intent was to deny service through an orchestrated overwhelming amount of traffic. Someone saying on a forum somewhere, "Post threads until we get noticed" is not DDOS. It was certainly crapflooding, but not DDOS.

As Goonswarm spammed the forums I saw no effect in my experience playing Eve-Online "The Game". Not sure what everyone's problem is...I don't pay to play in the forums.

This is just a lot of speculation, as far as I know we are not suing anyone right now, and lets just not go there unless anything like this actually happens. At the moment this seems to simply be a rumor.
