No such thing as ore theft. If you don't use secure containers, then it's considered space junk, free for the taking.
Not that I take ore.. I just loot containers when they have good equipment.

lol
if you knew the amount of sec rateing i have lost killing lazy self centered parasites known as ore/loot thieves.
whats worse is that ore stealing is a waste of time, you can't make good isk off of indy loads and killing indies is EASY...really people are jsut bored with mining and so fly around and steal from others...which of course shows you what kinda lazy useless waste of air they are :)
seriously though CCP is just too...lazy?...to address the issue of ore stealing, fortunetly ore thieves are mostly lazy skill lacking alts of which I can sight and kill.

They have adressed the issue with ore "stealing" by giving people secure containters. If you don't use secure containers, then it's your own fault.
CCP has mentioned this either in a dev chat, or on the forums. I don't remember which.
I'm not saying ore "theft" is right or wrong, but.. come on.. the solution is pretty simple, and you don't have to take a sec hit.
Now, if they would let people hack the passwords on containers maybe we could start a corp that cleans up all these annoying corp ad's floating around stations and gates.

Times like this I regret deleting Alexia.
Either nick the Ore with an Industrial, earning myself a fair bit o' mineral, or ransom the cans in a Frigate.
People inflate their egos by bragging about how they "pwned" people....I simply got on everyone's **** by nicking their lazily planned mining operations.

Anyone can sit at a rock for hours on end. oO
I've experienced both sides of the coin, so I can quit happily say "use secure cans you ****" when someone complains about being "stolen" from.

yeah but it is more effort to get a mining ship, defend against NPCs and deal with alzy ore/loot stealers than point and click your indy or frig...cheep lazy and useless to EVE, fun target practice though :P |

I just wanna know.. why aren't people using the secure containers? That's what they were made for.
This type of mining was never intended, yet people found they could do it. Then people found they could steal from them. Then people complained (with good reason I think) then CCP made these password protected containers.
SO.. what's the problem?

Haha I'm banging! woo!
Oh, and you can't bounty me, I have a positive sec rating.
And, just thought I'd throw this up, you can find it in the eve ingame help page.
Quote:
The regular containers were designed to jettison unwanted items into space or to hold loot from blown up ships. They were designed so that any player could take from them because that was essential for them to function as they were intended. Players later invented the "container mining" method after noticing that the containers could hold way more than any cargohold. This use for the containers was never intended and it has the obvious flaw that any player with a reduced sense of right and wrong can come by and take everything from the container and no one can do anything about it.
This risk should be known to all players and there will be no reimbursement for ore lost this way. Also, ore "theft" is not considered harrassment so no punishment will be dealt out to those who choose to "steal". Players who are thinking of taking up a career as ore thiefs should note that they will face a lifetime of unpopularity and unhappiness as a result.
CCP has decided to meet players halfway by implementing secure containers that can be bought on the market and have the advantage of being equipped with a password lock. These containers cost money and do not hold the vast amount of ore that the regular containers do. However, with good organization and frequent ore pickups using Industrial ships, they can be very useful for large scale mining operations.
The bottom line is: If you use regular containers to store your ore you assume all the risk. Having your valuables floating in space in an unsecure container is equivelant to throwing money on the street. Should you lurk nearby and wait for someone to take the money and then attack him, the police would deal with you, not him. The same goes in Eve. If you attack a player who just took "your" ore from a regular container in a system with a security level of 0.5 or higher. You will be destroyed by Concord.

Didn't expect to get this feedback when I posted
I have no issue with "Garbage collectors" , its all part of the game. I thought I would be "safe" in a high sec system but I got complacent and was proved wrong. Lesson learnt, and my fault for not using a secure can, now if she tries again in a low sec area ..... |

yes, do me the favor of cluttering the fields with your anchored secure cans. Make it so your rivals will need to bounce of your secure, hard to destroy cans. Hell make it easier for the npcs to destroy haulers by cluttering the fields with secure cans.
Heck I have systems where you cant mine in the belts because of my barbwire secure can clusters.

Besides being somewhat sexy, you're also quite talented, and capable of micro surgery; Why you wasted an entire "jar" instead of just half filling a thimble is beyond me.
Stop griping about server instability and go buy an EVE mug!
Additionally with the purchase of each mug you will receive two(2) invisible Elves.

Wow, all this fuss over little old me. I'm flattered.
Use secure cans and I can't bother anyone, can I? But people won't because they're greedy. I've lost count of the people i've robbed in the same place 2 or 3 times over, simply because they just can't resist filling up those big old jettisoned cans.
See you all in space

I use jettison cans all the time if someone nears my can i just ask them, if no answer I simply shoot!
BUT if I leave my can full of ore and leave the belt I have no problem with it being stolen, since I know the risks with unsec cans!
I wished i had the patience to clear out all that cans floating around! Keep it up Tenaj!

Let's see would u rather lose an indy load of minerals or have someone in a kestrel blow up your can.... Personally i could care less about 10k cargo worth of minerals.

A fun solution that we use is that we have made an alt corp just for hunting down ore theives and blowing them up.
It is a fun break to the game where we all log to our other characters, jump into our Kestrals and Caracals and go from roid field to roid field to find those pesky creatures.
Oh what fun it is to unleash 20 torps their direction and then warp core stabilizer out of harms way.
And if we lose a ship to Concord, oh well, we had a "blast" doing it.
They tend to not return to that same system for some reason after that. ----------------------------------------------- "The Light shineth in the darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not." |
