Edited by: Patch86 on 05/06/2007 14:33:17 Edited by: Patch86 on 05/06/2007 14:28:12 They already used to have it sailable in a box. I've still got my copy around here somewhere (ú5 and it came with 1 month subscription free- bargain!), That was years ago though. I wonder why they're doing it again?
EDIT: Tidy up. --------

Great. Fantastic. 9/10 for CCP/White Wolf. But... why are we always the last to know... :(
Anyways, I want to get my mittens on a Special Edition Boxed Set of Eve, with some posters and stuff. Lets just say the kind of money I would pay would give Wrangler a nice christmas bonus etc hint hint
(The worst thing about selling your game in boxed version though imo is that by the time you ship and its in shops for a few months the consumer needs to patch a heck of a lot to let him play it. So you need to constantly produce updated versions of Eve if your going to be shipping it out to shops. And thats expensive. I hope our subscription fees don't increase <Adaris hits panic button>)
Please Help me, YOU could be next!

Quote:
CCP said that the recent merger with US-based White Wolf will allow them to release a physical version of EVE - currently available as a free download and played by more than 200,000 users.
I could be suffering from lack of caffine but has that number gone up?

That was an interesting post. The other story on that site reporting the 7 million dollar marketing campaign is pretty interesting too. The quote below is from CCP about the marketing effort.
"The hardcore gamers know about EVE... So we're expanding. We're still going to be in the hardcore gaming media, but we're adding more general gaming and even portals like Yahoo!.
"We need to expand, because if we're going to go beyond 300,000 subscribers, we can't just do that with hardcore gamers."
It sounds like they are saying that they have saturated the market for hardcore gamers that like harsh games and to bring EVE out of its niche and achieve growth they need general gamers. I wonder whether current EVE design will appeal to general gamers?
Leaving that issue aside, I'm certain that CCP could use its intellectual property and talented staff to make a second space game aimed at the mass market that would appeal to general gamers.

I got the original from 2003 \o/
Would be awesome if they released a boxed version, since people will see it in stores and so on (advertising).

I'm a big PC game junkie and I've never seen it in on shelves in U.S.
If it would have appeared in 2003 I would have purchased/played it then, but found out in 2004 from a friend that found in on the internet.
Imagine the customers they would have had with a little marketing 101.

Auch. That sounds like a perilous path..
Soon there will be some shortsighted CEO asking 'People seem to quit too fast. Find out whats the most common reason and fix that'..
Oh, and yay for advertising and the box.
-Lasse for harsh environment
