Would a maelstrom with BS lvl V, 2 T1 shield amps, and 3 T2 hardners be enough to tank most lvl 4 missions?
It will never run out of cap since I use 3 CCC and 3 T2 PDU so cap isn't a problem, just the ability for my booster to offset the dmg.

I've used maelstrom with x-large booster and most lvl4s were no problem at all with occasional shield booster on/off(cant run it indefinetly obvious, cap cant sustain that)
there are a couple of lvl4 that had me running the sb constatnly and was barely able to keep up with the damage, but after 2-3 mins cap was dead and i had to warp out. cant remember what ones though, but large shield booster that you can run a lot should be enough for most lvl4's
personaly I had 3 hardners, xlarge booster, boost amp and a target painter(nice to kill frigates/cruisers at 80-90Km with my howies)

Edited by: Sokratesz on 06/06/2007 16:00:49 Large T2 + the maels bonus at lvl 4 at least + 2 amps will be enough as long as you add a damage control for resists. A bit of aggro management helps, too.

If the X-Large C5-L is that hard to fit... Rip off those 1400mms and put on 1200mms (you'll enjoy the tracking anyway).
There are some missions where you're only running your X-Large half the time (with a single boost amplifier), so that's all good. However, there are other missions where you're running it constantly and barely keeping up with the damage. With even just two CCC rigs and two PDS IIs in your lows, the C5-L is plenty cap efficient for your needs.

I only have BS lvl 3 at the moment, and I have no problem running the occasional level 4 with BS3, T1 shield amp, XL Booster II, and rat specific tech I active hardeners.
I mostly end up fighting Amarr, and have my EM/Therm resists at between 80 and 85 each, and I shield boost 956 every 5 seconds. That combined with a full rack of 1400mm Protos and T2 medium drones makes most all level 4s a cakewalk.

I have minmatar BS at lvl V and use 1200mm, so t2 XL isn't hard to fit. But it does not last forever unlike t2 large which is what I need since I often get lag hiccups.

I wonder if you could make a xl shield booster (non faction/officer) setup stable with some cap fluxes in stead of the pdu ..
last I checked a t2 PDU gives 14.21% cap/s bonus while a t2 cap flux gives 21.42% cap/s bonus..
/me does some maths
All the stuff above does not necessarily reflect my corp, my alliance or even me.. Drone guide.. |

You want the lowslots for 3x dmg mod 1x tracking mod 1x DCU tbh, the cap flux thing seriously gimps your damage.

Best way to fit a maelstrom
8x modulated miner 2's (24 grid 640 cpu) medium shield booster 2 3 passive shield hardening rigs 3 co processors 2 mining upgrades (Less co procs if you have mining upgrades skill higher)
5 medium drones rest however many mining drones as you can fit.
Use Go to a nice hi sec system and mine yourself up a raven or a tempest or a typhoon.
Sorry I just hate the maelstrom with a passion. IMO It is the worst of the tier 3 BS. Max skills a tempest outdamages it, a typhoon outdamages it (and works better for missions with missiles). It's tank (praised by one of the devs as the best non capital ship tank when they first mentioned tier 3 BS) is sub par. You can barely tank a nubbins in a blasterthron while he can laugh at your sad DPS all day. I Just hate it. I really and truely wish CCP wouldn't have put in the maelstrom, just buffed the damage or tanking ability of the pest/phoon. Heck, it doesn't even have a P in it's name like all good minmatar BS do (IE Phoon/Pest)
To the OP, It should be stron enough to tank most level 4's, with maybe the excaption of enemies abound, as you have no way to deal with the frigates that tackle you on the first wave without launching drones. That and on some of the extra's will you have enough speed to close into AC Range to pound on the NPCs enough to kill them?

Lol at ******** reply, 'subpar' tank....hahaha, bad damage?
To the original post, I've perma run a medium booster II in the past on a mealstrom on done well on the missions. You definatly need t2 amps and BS 4-5 for that though. But I have a corp mate that does lvl 4s in a large shield boosting Raven, so I dont see why a mealstrom with a great tanking bonus will have any trouble doing it.
