hello
once we get walk-in-the-station characters, will we be able to select the clothes for our characters?
does that mean that we will have an opportunity to refresh our existing characters images while doing so?
will we be able to have a full wardrobe we can swap around?
if so, will there be shops where we can spend our hard earned isks to buy a new jumper?
this may even create a new mini profession with a mini application to create fashionable items of clothing.
what do you recon?
lol it would be also fun to see play rooms where you can sit and play silly arcade games against other players such as connect 4 (3d on a table instead of a web browser), pong etc. maybe by even betting isks on your win :)

I think its probably going to be implemented at some point. Most players would love to dress up their avatars in fancy clothes.
The whole thing with walking in stations should open up for some new professions, if ccp wants it to.

Linkage
Have a look at the Eve articles. From what I understand CCP don't want to create a new game/s in station, just a social space. If you want to play you will need to undock. So I would guess you would not be able make clothes or items in this way.

If you might be able to do it in the Whitewolf game then you might be able to do it in Ambulation mode.
I figure you might have at least a few choices to keep everyone from looking the same.
CCP said they want you to react differently to different players avatars, how can we do that if the Corp leader looks like everyone else?
Different clothes has to be there.
Also the games will be grittyer then connect four, maybe more like a cosmic game of poker or one of those TCGs' in game.
Medals on our uniforms too. :)

I think this is going to end up being pretty big, but going from a fairly basic start. You'll probably have to model your character from a set of designs, like you do your portrait, probably allowing for different styles and colours and effects and props.
But overtime I can see the demand for customisation of 'in station' material being in high demand, particually given the limitations available to main game development (theres only so many more ships that can be added etc). |

Iirc:
it was said once from ccp that they really would like to do some phewphew in Stations unfortently the exact ruels (clone/guns/equitment) would be a lot of extra work and IF they Bring it the there must be SOMETHING to fight FOR.
(station souverinity on outposts? when conquered?)
That would take a very very long time to implement, so they rather stick to the basic "walking" and graphics/engine tweaks for the beginning with an Option for fights later on as patch ;)
so don't worry it will just need time. -------------------------------------------- Never argue with an Idoit, they will drag you down to their Level and beat you with experience. |

I reckon it would spice up the game a bit for the older eve players and also bring new ones in. I would love to see lots of different things to do in stations as there is out of them. And yes defo shooting others, high sec you'd be shot by the fuzz, low sec you just gotta undock till your aggression runs out n 0.0 pure pew pew OMGWTFPWNAGE someone shot me while eating a burger...
Some ideas: Uniforms for corps/alliances Guns guns guns and more guns Gambling Crews?
I've said this before in another post, but can you imagine an in station avatar blob with the kind of organisation we have in 0.0. Man that would kick ass

My main problem with walking in stations is that it's hard enough to get people to undock as it is! Now they really have a reason to stay docked!
It should just be a visual representation of a space. Perhaps with meeting rooms for corps to discuss stuff and for people to discuss the fight they had outside in the depths of space. Eve is an awesome game without walking in stations, and if you give people loads of airy fairy crap to play with that is ultimately pointless. If you wanna play poker, play online poker, if you want to dress your character up, buy a barbie doll. Perhaps there should be a facility to change your avatar's appearance without changing the face, but you don't have to walk in stations to do this.
It should just be like local chat but restricted to the current station, but where you can approach and discuss stuff with people.
The only activity I feel that is valid within the station is perhaps the setting up of shops, but that's it.
Just my thoughts.

I didn't read the entire thread but here's an answer to one of your questions:
Quote: this may even create a new mini profession with a mini application to create fashionable items of clothing.
I doubt it... the problem with "designing" new clothes would be, that every player that sees your character would have to load the model of the clothes you designed. in other words you would either have to create a new client-patch for every new item a player designs or you would have to load the moddels from the server ad-hoc which would create a huge load on the servers. while it may be possible to customize your cloths (very much the same way you can customize your characters portrait) it's highly unlikley that you will ever be able to really design a new model of dress and then wear it. |

Although what CCP could be very sneaky and do is create a massive set of 'avatar skins' that can be invented by use of a design shop, and sold.... So you'd feel like you designed it at least, and it would feel unique (and possibly offer specialist skins for rewards for certain events or mission achievements - like a 9.9 Standing Medal for Pator Tech....).
The trick to getting these kinds of things to work, is to work out the likely problems that will occur in the future as a result of how you programme the initial release(s). Its a real art... for which people like me do quite nicely! |

There are really only 2 games that i play: EVE and BF 2142. If these 2 are combined - that would be my perfect game. I would get my BF2142 clan to migrate here and we'd serve as mercenaries for planetary deployment and combat for corporations that do not want to engage into FPS stuff, but want to control planetary surfaces or take over outposts without blowing em up.
If it also included skill training tree, just like now, but for planetary combat. And ranks, too. After 45 successful deployments for Caldari Navy - i would like to see a promotion, and maybe even some medals.
As for walking in stations for the sake of walking in stations.. doesn't bother me much, though standing "close enough" to a production terminal in E&B really bugged me, and that you couldn't buy and sell stuff in the same room, you needed to travel from side to side and your walk was awful...

I want to mug people, or set up a shop or soemthing meaningfull. Not just a system local where you can walk into each other, or do a stupid dance as a Civire male wearing a bikini.

Meh, i think it would be cool to like be able to walk to certain parts of a station, have a bar (with music and dancing girls ) mebbe beeing able to play cardgames there (u could bet iskies) mebbe an observationdeck, where u could spy outside to see who's camping ur station hehehe.
I DON'T want it to be FPS in space, please no shooting in station, it be like good ol' western days, got a problem, lets take it outside.
Which reminds me, i want deathmatch arenas in hi sec, where people can fight each other without interference of others (hold actual duels) mebbe people could watch and bet on the outcome. (please note that i just want this added ON TOP of current ways, this DOES NOT MEAN i want hi sec to be happy carebear country at all) CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!!

WW is developing "walking" for their upcoming game, EVE just gets "in stations" because it's gonna get done anyways. Fixing existing content is done by other people, that do not work, did not work, nor, probably, will work on EVE, but rather migrate to whatever it is WW is doing.

Oh, come on--you know you want walk-in stations! Just think of the possibilities--they could have a central, universe-wide marketplace that everyone spends all their time in and that generates incredible amounts of lag, they could sell incredibly expensive outfits that require 1,000 complex runs to get, they could have player-run casinos run by players with scantily clad avatars, and of course this would be their big chance to implement dance moves for avatars!
Standing around in front of an overcrowded marketplace showing off your expensive gear while you play at the casino with the dancing scantily-clad avatars--it would be the greatest ever, why hasn't anyone thought of this yet!

(For those whose sacrasm filter isn't working, let's just say I'm not keen on the whole walk-in station idea)

I wonder how starbases are going to be large enough for the aprox 700 players in Jita at primetime and at the same time be "small" enough when 5-10 players are in it. Is the interior of a starbase going to adjust in size when more players dock?

Thats actually an interesting idea, granted you're being sarcastic, but I do really like the idea of 'living my character' in space and the idea of having something other than just a stack of ships in the hanger as my only tie into the world. To have a more indepth reason for earning all that isk, rather than it being just an investment in the next kill. Different places to live, ties to the world, all that kind of jazz.

Originally by: Amanda Shadowsword NO NO NO NO NO NO NO (add 100 more pages) This is a stupid idea and should not be put in. Hell why not add goblins, rats even big dragons in the stations and i get first pick on stupid armor. The day this comes into eve will be the day u know they don't care how bad the servers are.
Yeah, or they could utilise each station exit to a seperate server farm, and reduce system strain on the main node, from the number of players online.

Hahaha, yeah! Or, here's a wild idea, we could fix the bugs in existing content!
Bug fixing occurs seperately to development. You utilise different skills to analyse reported bugs for patching.

Originally by: 000Hunter000 Meh, i think it would be cool to like be able to walk to certain parts of a station, have a bar (with music and dancing girls ) mebbe beeing able to play cardgames there (u could bet iskies) mebbe an observationdeck, where u could spy outside to see who's camping ur station hehehe.
*Line of interests highlighted by me*
That would be cool... Just imagine it, there you sit with your Cosmic Tea drink, thinking... "god I feel safe in here"... when suddenly the observation deck is assailed by several missle volleys.
*poof*
Space is now filled with all of those lovely sims toons we all want.

I don't know what everyones problem is... The look of the video has seriously got my awesome o mometer tapping the side of the glass.
Some reservations and ideas I do agree with however (not all positive):
1: Please CCP do not turn EVE into WOW, with people prancing around in L33t equipment requiring dungeon raids etc to obtain. 2: I personally have no issues about this being a Social venue, and a way to get more immersion from daily chores. I can easily see myself spending time in the lounge just talking... 3: What threatens this idea for me however is that I have played other MMO's and I know how people act in these kinds of settings... CCP will have to work hard to make sure that the WIS idea is limited but powerful to prevent people from breaking the immersion of others... What is immersion breaking? Well the first time you see a player avatar in a thong dancing on a counter top for iskies, just because they CAN, is the day I point it out to you... While I love pixelated tooty fruity as much as the next red blooded gamer, I don't want to drown in the stuff...
All in all, the best part of the whole thing is just how incredible the next generation of EVE graphics is going to be... It will be like a whole new game.
One thing I can say for sure, is CCP partnering with White wolf is the best bunch of people CCP could have teamed up with... I say this because games like Vampire (whatever it's current name is) is not like Dungeons and Dragons or WOW where the primary focus is on killing looting or solving puzzles, but instead on character growth and immersion in role play. Not that D&D is lacking this so much, but most people know D&D for the dungeon crawls, and fewer know it for it's strong social capabilities... White wolf games are more about telling stories about unique characters, and doesn't revolve around levels and phat lewts or combat, but rather role play immersion and really playing a unique character.
This means walking in stations could be a very refined element of role play that could be very rewarding to those like myself who feel role play is one element that is lacking heavily in many areas of this game.
