I have seen it posted but never really been confident to try it. Can you start one skill then get fed up of waiting, stop that skill training and go onto train another without losing all the skill points?
You want it I got it....erm unless I sold it, then some one else has it!?! :/

Yes - just right click on the new skill you want to train and select train. Don't bother aborting the other skill ..

And this leaves me with the points saved to restart training that skill again some other time?

Yes. You donŠt lose any skillpoints when stopping training or starting an other skill. Feel free to switch around

doing this since beta...
i'm not the type to set up an alarm clock to switch skills at night ;)
no police, no summons, no courts of law; no proper procedure, no rules of war; no mitigating circumstance; no lawyers fees, no second chance! |

Yes this works, you don't lose your progress on the old skill because of switching to another.
Although, I'm still uncertain what happens to partially learned skills when you get podded.
Anyone know this?

The points you've made, you keep. If you abort a skill, the points you had trained during that session are saved to your character.
If you're podded, the only points you lose are the ones that your clone didn't cover. You get an evemail to that effect, telling you exactly how many points you've lost and from what skill.

But you don't want to start training a new skill book... because last time I tried that it erased the skill points I had accumulated in the skill I was training.
The workaround, swap to another skill that hasn't started training, then use the skillbook and you don't lose points or training time. |

Actually you can leave a sub level 1 and it will retain the points. Example you start training a book, then before it gets to level 1 you switch to something else. Works fine.
I however never trusted the 'abort current training' I always switch by just starting another.

Another phenomena with skills is the passive training! I trained the Engineering skill to lvl 3 then never bothered to look at it, after 3 weeks I looked into the folder and the skill was at lvl 5.
If u use a module, ship, weapon or use your industry skills they get raised quitely and slowly. Therefor it could be a good tactic to obtain many lvl 1 skills in the begining of the game and while u play they will raise automaticly without training!

Passive skill training doesn't work anymore
I got wep upgrades 5 and heavy drones 3 using that.
Hull Upgrades 5 was halfway done before they stopped passive training.
