Today while most of my Corp slept. A thief that we called friend was busy cleaning out the corp hangers as well our subsidiaries hangers of everything that was within. Shanni then tried to use an alt in our subsidiary to dismantle our hisec POS and keep that as well. Our executive officer logged on and was trying to limit the damage being done but was severely hampered by lag we believed in part created by CCP's current database problems. Unfortunately the damage is done, we are petitioning CCP to see if they can assist us in some way, since if the DB problems were not present, our XO might have been able to save more if not everything. We believe the thief choose to strike today due to these problems. It is sad that thievary seems to be so prevelant these days in New-Eden.
Take this as awarning to all you other corps/alliances out there. Do not hire this corp thief.

The term would be Social Engineering. But yea, it sucks when a long time friend (at least I'd assume that's what this person was. Giving BPO access to a stranger is kinda ) backstabs you like this.
Best of luck in recouping your losses.

It is unlikely they'll intervene with a petition unless some exploit was used in the theft. I realize the massive up and down of the servers over the hours before the timing of the theft may have assisted the theft and that is unfortunate.
It is sad that some folks seem to think that the only way they can have fun is to take everything someone else built away.
It is even sadder that the game is made to favor these individuals.
There is no way to make a corp in EVE without trusting someone else.
It's the sad nature of EVE that those who show friendship, and give their trust are often abused by elements of the game.
I am hopeful that you will find a way to recover. Know that you are the better person though.
If he's still in your corp, then you can always pod him :). Other than that once you get back on your feet you can offer a bounty on his head.... Idea: Treaties Idea: Jump Rigs |

This kind of carebear thinking is why the game is moving steadily away from the PVP we know and love and into a realm filled with rainbows, butterflies, and talking bunnies.
EVE is about getting ahead however you can. The game is NOT designed to enable thieves, it IS designed to allow them to do what they do best. There were ways to prevent this from happening, and the directors/CEO of this corporation made a conscious choice not to do so. It is their fault they opened themselves up to theft.
This is a subject covered all the time in the New Players forum. They could have avoided this situation entirely by adhering to the most basic tenet of this game: Watch your ass.

Probebly the 24 hour timer between removing roles and "Kick". We had an issue with a corp thief once "though he only had acess to our cheap-o givaway stuff", the fact that he had 24 hours to "brag" and causing trouble "yelling intel on local, saying we were noobs ect" was far worse then the theft itself :-/. ____________

This is correct, role removal takes 24 hours. It was considered to keep adding roles to keep them in the corp for free podding. But this would not have acheaved bringing back the stolen goods. In the end it was decided to remove them from the corp as soon as possible.
While trusting anyone in Eve is a risk it is also a risk that has to be taken to have a corp move forward unless you have so much free time to do everything on your own. My (costly) error was obviously entrusting this person too soon, a mistake I have learned from.
Interestingly enough this person stated that they were a pirate, which is odd because how I have always known piracy is that there are risks involved with the actions. Thievery like this has no risks (or very low ones) in comparison to ransoming a victim. I compared the actions of this "pirate" to those of a MacroMiner, in where the risk is minimal if non exsistant and the reward is great in both instances. In both senerios in my opinion they are cheaters, as there is no counterbalance to their actions.

It would also have been an petitionable offence if you did btw.
And yeah corp theivery has no risks at all really. and also no consequences because they can quite easily replace the character with a different one.

There is guides enough around to prevent corp theft, dont understand why you dont kept bpo acces only for yourself and give bpc's of them to your members instead of allowing them to have the bpo's.
Hope you learned a valuable lesson today. In real life you also dont give your credit card number to your best friend.

The difference is that, ideally, you know where your best friend lives, his/her name, his/her description, where he/she would go if he/she abruptly left...etc.
Still, the point is a good one. I hate to sound callous about this, but you were a sucker and you got what you deserved for being too trusting. Naming the corp thief is all well and good, but in the end they can delete this alt and make a new one to do it all over again, something they've likely done before and will probably do again.
You have to watch your own back in this game, because no one else is going to do it for you. The burden of responsibility is on you

I known what your going trough man, i may be slightley new to eve, but i know to well what happens with corp theives.
I used to play another game and have a person steal 1000 gold from our clans main chest. (which is quite alot-equivilent to around 2 bill in eve).
But i agree with the person who stated just bounty them. Because you can just get your revenge right there. Even if it does get his isk, he will be hunted down.

Or he'll clone jump to a clone with no implants, use an alt to pod himself and collect the bounty himself.
Bounties accomplish nothing in eve except to transfer funds to the character with the bounty.
