Recently a good friend of mine left the game.. he's been playing for years..
He left because of the direction eve is headed... PVP. Don't get me wrong i don't think there is anything wrong with pvp, but everyone isn't into it. I think that there should be the same benefits for people who have been playing for years.. who like to go with their friends and hunt rats or do missions, as for those who do missions in low security or in 0.0 space.
Playing with a group of friends against the computer is fun! no one to hold a grudge, no personal attacks..
Why is it we have to go out and be some huge alliances cannon fodder? If we want access to do better, more challenging, missions?
Yes it's fun for BoB to have someone to wipe out occasionaly but, is that what we want?.. hang a few carrots out.. they'll come?
I know pirates love pvp.. here's an idea.. if there is no war declared then a pirate that initiates combat can't warp for 10 mins.. and the number of attacking ships can only equal the number of defending ships.. hmm a fair fight? Pirates everywhere shudder...
Why force people into wars? Is that all we can do? Why not wars against the computer then? Why if we work for years so we can build a titan.. does it have to be some hudge alliances cannon foder?
Those that dont want to play pvp are forced to be safe space miners.. with no real future of growth beyond that?
Can't we come up with something better?

I have only been playing eve for about 20 mths now but I was under the impression that Eve has been a PvP game from day one with a small amount of PvE content to get future PvP players cashed up and into the game. I am generally a PvE player but am happy to accept the PvP content and deal with it as it happens. Thats Eve, live with it or send me ur stuff and leave.

I tend to agree with Byson1 here. I've been playing for... a while, and while I'm not the best skilled for PVP combat, that doesn't mean that I shouldn't have a say in the direction things are going. Perhaps I just want to mine, or run missions? I know most people would think that "Hey, you should be setting yourself up to join an alliance and go out to 0.0 for Pvping and ratting." But really now, what would happen if all the gamers in Eve focused their attentions on Pvping?
First off, there'd probably be a lot more lag. So many more equations have to be checked when you fire at someone rather then firing at an NPC. Secondly, the game economy would grind to a screeching halt. If *everyone* is out in 0.0 blowing other people up, who's mining? Who's building the ships to replace those that got lost? Finally, as he's said before, not everyone wants to head out and duke it out with other players. I don't have to blow people up to feel superior to anyone else, I just want to play the game and have fun(And I do realize that some people have fun blowing others to bits)
I think this is a pretty fair assessment. If my industrial corp gets wardeced by some agressive one, what chance do we have? People might say "Well, you should have trained up some combat." And I would reply to them, that if I was trying to focus on a purely industrial player, why would I do that? I like creating things, I like destroying pirate NPCs because I can imagine that it makes the space-lanes safer for the people who aren't us :)
Anyway, just my two isk.

PVP should only be ONE aspect of the game. End of.
As for your industrial corp getting war dec'd, sorry for ya mate, but that's part of the game. CCP added a new system to make wars a bit more costly for those starting them, so if someone is after you, you've obviously done something to get their attention.
But i support the thread, PVP should only be a part of it and (voluntary or not) should not be the END ALL, BE ALL of EVE.

three things: exploration, complexes, lvl 5 missions.
ccp say they are bringing out more upgrades to missions so although most of their work is pvp as this is a mostly pvp game I don't think pve is being ignored. also I'm not sure how events work as I've never met or done anything with the ISD but from what I understand they work mostly in empire doing special events to keep it interesting. complexes can be pretty tough so a group of pve ppl should be able to go have some fun in one of them, I know they are currently heavily deffended by the owners of the space they are in but ccp are planning to make them like exploration so you should be able to get some once they implement those changes.

That's just not possible. PVE/Industry are the ying to PVP's yang; one cannot live without the other. Any PVP-centric pilot knows this, whilst I presume every PVE/Industry-centric pilot is in denial about it.
I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but why pay money every month to grind against AI? There are scores of space based that allow you to do just this, but only ONE that allows you to compete against thousands of other human beings - as such surely it's justified that CCP focus their efforts on making the PVP side of this universe more polished?

Because it is "fun" for those people who like it?
Some people like to mine, others like to build things, haul trade goods around empire or shoot at AI controlled objects.
It is nobody's right to judge what is more fun for others or if they had more fun doing other things!
I, for example, don't like PvP, especially the "raid low sec or 0.0 and shoot miners and ratters who cannot be prepared for PvP due to their required ratting/mining setup or gank some noobs who aren't even able to defend themselves due to lack of experience/skills/finances". Neither do I feel any "superiority" when I just destroyed something, another person spend hours/days/weeks to accomplish. I see no fun in doing so, and that is why I chose not to PvP if it can be avoided.
Sure alot of people will disagree and say that it is fun, but that is not my business what others see as "fun".
But since CCP actually have created PvE content, they should also take care about the fraction of people who do not PvP.

Which they are doing: Exploration & harder missions are just two examples of the "boost" which PVE and Industrial gameplay have/are being given soon¥¥Ö. I simply disagree that CCP are ignoring this aspect of the game, and pointing out that one cannot PVP without the financial backing afforded by running POS chains/mission grinding/ratting/missioning/mining/exploring and so on.

I think the point he was making initially is that his friend didn't see that there was going to be anything coming out that would tickle his fancy. The level 5 missions they have in the works sound pants-soiling fun, and if they ever get hidden asteroid belts and system wide ones, then miners will have a whole lot of stuff to look foward to.
For me, there's always something. I want to fly every Non-cap ship in the game and be able to fit them out if I want to, I guess his friend didn't have a goal set up for himself in the future. Ahh well.

Yes if u wanna be pure carebear u have to sit in empire, carebear in lowsec/0.0 = dead carebear but this is eve, where everything is risk vs reward. Sorry to say so but if ur looking for careless pveing all around then u need to change games. ---

For the ISD part most events recently have been in low sec/0.0, even if now they are changing that thrend.

for what it's worth i had a mate u used 2 be a miner non stop until he got bored being stolen and ganked. he ditched his old (very well trained) char and started anew.
he eventually saw the light in experiencing more, had the guts to TRY something new, or the more complete side of all that EVE has to offer. and now, HE ROCKS!
perhaps u ought 2 do like we did and talk to yr m8, spend more time with him and initiate him to combat. he might see other things that he wasnt aware he could achieve... after all EVE is all about interaction, so make this count.
now tho our formerly anti pvp friend still loves the sound of T2 strip miners, boy he loves the sound of missiles blasting all kinda foes :P

Probably it came from years of Civilzation and other strategy games, but the indirect competition (in market, bulding things, and so on), and the cooperative part of the game (group mining, group missions) for me are more fun that going out to search for PvP.
I accept that there should be a PvP risk if I am doing those activities in the fringe areas of the empire, and that there should be mechanics for that risk even in the core areas of the empire, but seem that CCP is ofthen adding something to PvE only as an afterthougt, or with a fraction of the analysis they do for a add to PvP.
One example are the new missions. A system to share standing and LP rewards was promised, but so far I havent's seen it on the test server or read anything about it in the forum. But that is a really important part of the level 5 mission idea.

So everybody drop your mining/trading/manufacturing characters into the biomass and start over with PVP characters. Lets watch the entire infrastructure of this game collapse.
Oh, BTW, you'll only PVP for a very short time until the ships/mods/rigs/combat boosters etc you need to do it run out. Sorry peeps, can't build anything with this new PVP character I've been training up. I needed to make sure he could survive in the badlands before I started training the industry side
Some people like to build and SPECIALISE their character as a manufacturer or miner or trader. As such, the character is totally useless at combat but many PVP players feel that this is simply target practice for them. So now you might realise why so many manufacturers and miners and non combat trained characters remain in highsec.

But my guess is CCP is increasingly focused (obsessed) on 0.0 pvp and the big corp wars - and the rest of the gamers can just go hang, in their opinion. Maybe some minor mission tweaks will be enough for us carebears, they think. And the recent fuss about allegations of dev bias in favour of some corps will just mean that they give the 0.0 stuff and PvP game balance even more of their attention. As well as the suggestions in this thread I'd also want that CCP should put some real and long-overdue effort into the zone graphics. (Planets and stars and such). That would benefit all players. PvP, PvE, whatever. (Unless you spend all your time docked and trading.)
TBH I'm expecting nothing to come our way, and am looking out for another game. :-(

"truncated for space"
The flaw in your agrument with regards to the O/P is that the three items you mentions will all or mostly be low sec and 0.0 space items. Not where you want to be if you have no interest in PVP.
I personally love PVE and PVP and can see no reason why they cant co-exsist, but to the brave go the fare. Those who are not prepared to risk as much can not expect to get as much reward. Level 5 agent running for example will be more challenging and fun for those jaded thousands who grind level 4 semi afk because they can. But the fact that its in low sec space makes it alot more dangerous, but if you want it you have to risk for it.
Eve is not a PVP game, go play counter strike Eve is not a PVE game, go play Wow
Eve simply is. It is the most diverse online gaming community ever imho, good, bad, big, small, happy and sad.
I was peeved that CCP had spent months developing titan content because only a miniscule fraction of pilots will ever be able to fly them, I personally thought the time could have been better spent creating content for the wider audiance. But on second thoughts with the effort required on an alliance scale the titan is the perfect toy to give alliances a goal to work towards. I will probably never see a titan let alone fly one but thats because I choose not to get involved with the big alliances, so the loss is my responsability.
The same could be said for the coming contennt and those who do not wish to PVP, you will miss out on a part of the game but only through your own choice. Not because it is not accessable.

Edited by: Shaemell Buttleson on 10/06/2007 18:35:40 PVP and PVE co-exist quite well right now. If you cant find a way to get out of pvp for 99.9% of the time then you need to rethink your current gameplay.
I do however think PPL who use suicide tactics are not penalised hard enough by far and that if say they didn't get 100% insurance back or find ways to gank freighters for example in hi-sec before they died to concord that it would be alot better.
If your mate left the game because he did't like the pvp side of it then fair play to him to go and look for something he likes instead. But the comment Those that don't want to play pvp are forced to be safe space miners.. with no real future of growth beyond that is a bit like buying nothing but fruit pastelles and then complaining you never get to eat chocolate.

PvE isn't identical with industry. High-end minerals can be had in adequate quantities from the drone regions and from mining in 0.0, while low-ends can be jumped in from macro-miners in high-sec.
The 0.0 alliances have industrial corps staffed by specialized alts and full sets of T1 BPOs. They do not need empire carebears to provide them with T1 ships, mods and ammo. T2 is already profitable and in demand for the most part, so that's not going anywhere, thanks to the lack of competition.
"PvE", in the context of this thread, is the co-operative efforts that are not aimed at huge profit or PvP dominance, like running a level 2 complex with some mates in frigates or doing missions in a gang or stripping mid-grade ore from a 0.5 system. These activities are often futile or even costly, and the motivation for them is fun-seeking that borders on roleplay.
If you want to make money, if you want to succeed, if you want to distinguish yourself in EvE, you've got to hang your balls out and go compete with people. Many of the people in low-sec don't give a fig about making money, either, but are playing for the pleasure of harming others and the satisfaction that it brings.
Just as a carebear feels a glow after torching 500 Pithi Arrogators, the ganktard smiles when he sees his -10 and twenty mails from Concord featuring his T2 cruise missiles and some poor newbie's first destroyer/hauler/cruiser/battleship.
The difference is that the Arrogators don't pay to play EvE, and they don't whine on the forums.

Even when the game gets more and more balanced during the these 4 years players keep the irristable urge to complain about it since it doesn't suit their needs. And with it start whining about it to be nerfed to death.
I just like it when Eve has some rough edges or the knowledge that it never will be bugfree EVER! Parts will remain skewed for some or even many but the moment you realize that you're the center of Eve and let go you will feel so much better. Let CCP do their jobs and shape the game to THEIR desires. Put up with the mistakes from them and yourself and other players. Enjoy the ride and try to make the best out of it. |

Think we don't talk about high value, but more content. I don't mind x millions of bounty, but it would be fun having some npc-capitals in high-sec and blasting them away with some friends. My main reason playing EVE is having fun with my friends, not ISK.
