I used to play this game two years ago before I had to stop. Now that I can play again, I decided I was going to spend half a year or more training for a caldari Command Ship.
I liked the idea of a passive tank - it was unique. A ship that would not be able to do anything BUT be a great NOS-Immune tank that can support its team with gang modules. It's those things - the different options players have - that make a character unique.
Now ships that take a year (or more) to train for get nerfed (shield recharge time increased to 1400s) because forum whiners who fly gankeddons can't pop vultures.
If this is the route CCP is going to take, listening to forum whiners and nerfing, I am not willing to spend my time and money playing this game. I feel so bad for the command ship pilots out there who actually DID spend all this time and money to be decent tanks, now having to suffer a -15% tanking ability nerf.
Nerfing fun things in MMORPGs as a result of immature whiners is the reason why many games die. I can see CCP starting to take this road.
Good bye.

This balance, read not nerf, has been a long time coming. I mean, come on, BS sized shield amount with cruiser-like shield recharge rate. It won't hurt the Nighthawk or the Vulture too much. If it makes you feel better, fit a Large shield booster and medium cap injector to you NH for a pretty darn good tank.

Setting your goals soo high is just not cool man. Gradually train for stuff, dont sit down and goble down a bunch of lvl5 trains at once, that'll drive any capsulteer insane. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever

Yes it's balance, because it's clearly overpowered when SUPPORT/DEFENSIVE ships that can't do anything else but tank and support can actually tank. And don't give me that "BS sized with cruiser like shield regen", we're talking about command ships that take months and months to train for. That's their PURPOSE. They're not battleships, nor are they cruisers.

I set short term and long term goals. I like to know where I'm going, and I'm also going to have fun in the way. I do this both in game and in real life, planning is actually a very good thing to do :)

this char which is my main is basically a dedicated command and cruiser class pilot, and although I think it kinda sucks nighthawks got hit because myrms and drakes could do amazing things, the fact is the nerf may not really be that bad, have you actually gone on test and tried it out? with the staggering resists the nighthawk and vulture gets I have a feeling they will be just fine after this nerf

Ain't that the truth. I have over 120 EVEMon skill plans on my HD. I have finally decided on one and recently decided against my last holdout. I'm going Hurrincane and then maybe to Sleipnir or maybe to Tempest/Mach. [/derail]
Back on topic: It is meerly a balance, Passive tanks were too good. Any ship should be able to destroy it's similarly sized contemporary in a 1 v 1 match. This was simply impossible because all the Drake/Nighthawk/Vulture had to do was out tank you then you could either run away and gather a gang of ships to take down a single adversary or wait for yourself to run out of cap and get your tank eaten away by a much imba perma-sustainable tank.

Yah, but you know they don't have to be on same grid to support, do you? And you can still fit an awesome tank if you want. Just gotta use your brain when the easy mode is removed.
I don't use Caldari command ships pre rev2.0 but i highly doubt you can fit one of those insane passive tanks to the fleet command ship and still use multiple gang assist modules like... now. The nerf is hitting missions grinders since they don't need the support stuff anyways. If you're one of those just use a Raven ffs...

Command Ships, their purpose is to house and transport the high ranking military officials who are in a command role. Their job there for is to protect as best they can those same high ranked military officials lives. Infact that's their role, they are not to do decent dps, they are not meant to be solo gankers. They are to survive, survive against great odds. They are the Super Tanks. So the concept of a battleship taking our a command ship is muddy, As command ships they should be able to withstand a battleship, maybe not easily but still they should survive. That's there job. So live with it.
Anyone who believes a battleship should kill a Command Ship outright fails at life.

I think most of you lost the point the OP was trying to make, not the fact that drakes and other BC shouldnt be nerfed, but the fact that Command ships got the same medicine when it wasnt necesary.
I do agree with him that the nerf shouldnt have affected the commandships, since they take a long time to train , and wont be used on the same "newb" way as battlecruisers.
Since the new battlecruisers got released most new players train for them asap (drake), becouse if you hade one, you would survive alot longer even with very little skills.
I agree that some of the fun from a game can be taking out of it when changes are made affecting something that took you forever to train for.

lolz
As you may gather from my sig, I am an Absolution pilot. I have taken the rather monumental training time for Amarr Command ships to end up with a costly, nos-scared, not all that damaging ship, that is really only good as a gang fighter, and yet, I still love it to bits. And more importantly: I DON'T WHINE ABOUT ITS WEAKNESSES.
Now, you whine that something that was clearly unbalanced is getting fixed and that is somehow wrong because it takes a long time to train for; are you f***ing kidding?
Really, if a minor rebalance is enough to make you whine and quit, then I re-iterate: good f***ing riddance. Don't expect any sympathy from anyone with a clue.

ya know... thats basically the same argument people have for why titans shouldn't get nerfed.... because they take soo long to train and they're such a large investment.
but they're on the nerfing block as well... just because something takes forever to train or costs a metric butt ton of isk doesn't make it immune to balance.
if that were the case, then everyone would simply fly those ships and no one would ever see anything else... because only the stuff that didn't take a long time to train would get nerfed and eventually there would be no point in flying or using anything that didn't take a year or longer to train.

Edited by: Drazin DawnTreader on 11/06/2007 00:24:23 Ya know... with 7 low slots the absolution would make a nice Passive shield tank. 2x LSE II's / 1x Invuln II 4x SPR II / 1x DCU II / 2x PDU II 2x Purger Rig
That'd give you around 185 HP/Sec regen A 12000 HP shield buffer And decent resists. Just about the same as many drake pilots. (370ish DPS too! Worse if you use Proj.) So you -could- be just as NoS proof as a Drake/NH... and share in their Abysmal DPS and lack of Ewar ability. But instead you get a "Good" Tank, Very nice DPS, And the ability to use Ewar.
But thats not really the point is it?
