Hi everyone
IÆm not sure if this idea has been put forward before û but here it is nonetheless:
NPC Salvage Teams
The basic idea:
- NPC drones/industrials salvage wrecks - Players pay a æfeeÆ for this service - The æfeeÆ might be a flat rate, based on the size of the wreck, m3 of the loot or charged on a time-scale (like a taxi service). - Loot items are shared equally/randomly among gang members - Loot may be placed in the pilotÆs cargo hold or station hanger. - There may be an upper limit on the m3 that can be moved, or Isk costs may increase as the salvage team works æovertimeÆ to meet your demands.
Pros:
- Isk sink - More enjoyable mission running ûless headache - Fair distribution of loot among gang members - Encourages cooperation among players (no loot wh*res)
Cons:
- Faster mission running ûpromotes inflation (but can be negated by higher fees or chance of items going æmissingÆ or being damaged) - More micromanagement - Invalidates use of players flying industrial/transport ships for this purpose - If it ainÆt brokeà
Will NPC salvage teams spawn or be an æinvisible handÆ?
Well having NPCs actually spawn (I envisage an NPC industrial ship) allows them to be targeted by hostiles ûand destroyed. In response they might be targeted by players for shield/armor transfer or repair drones.
Will my skills affect the success rate of NPC salvaging?
Probably.
How long will salvaging take? Is player oversight required?
Personally I think it should take a little time and player oversight (ie. player is in the vicinity) should be required. This is to prevent the speed of mission running to be dramatically increased as players devote less time to plundering wrecks.
Where will NPC salvage teams operate?
This is one for CCP to work out ûit might be exclusively for mission running or include ratters in Empire/0.0.
What is required for an NPC salvage team?
Again, this is one for CCP. It might require a control module ûprobably high-slot to slightly ægimpÆ ship set-ups and make players feel they are sacrificing something for the convenience of this service.
CCP have already revised looting and are unlikely to change it in the near future
Probably.
CCP should first fix <insert item here>, then think about this!
There are a lot of things that needs CCPÆs attention. In the meantime, I thought we might take a moment and see where imagination takes us.
I hate this idea! If itÆs implemented I quit!
Can I have your stuff? But seriously this is a discussion and a work in progress ûargument and revision are part of the process.

Well if NPC pilots come, i'm quite sure salvaging t4eam is in the "last" section of those.
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

Find a newer player making his money by salvaging, offer to split the salvage/loot with them if they clear your missions.
Profit.
Time is money and if you don't belive me as a hooker.

Nope, really bad idea.
I am totally opposed to using NPCs when real players can do the job. In this case the price of salvaged components would drop and nerf thoses players that spent time getting the skills to salvage efficiently.
Either use a second account or find a buddy to do the salvaging. In my case four hours of level 4s gets enough components to make two rigs. Which for my salvaging buddy equates to 20-40 million, which is not bad for a noob.

i am actually interested in this idea, but not specifically what the idea of the op.
In NPCs we only have the hauler spawns in addition to the fighting type npcs.
Even from a role playing perspective it would make sense that these pirate factions would also have salvagers, which if you left wrecks they COULD come and salvage them and if you found one then they would drop a higher amount of components than normal like a hauler spawn.
Hauler spawns have not broke the market, why should this kind of mechanism damage the component and rig market, as long as it is infrequent like hauler spawns.
I guess from the same argument could we have npc miners in system too, if macroers can do it ccp can sort out some code to do it.
