Every rpg game should have an opportunity for player to somehow progress in his character "lvl" (in this case skills) faster if he really tries more than others or if he sacrifice some other aspect of power - for example money. ( for example classic fantasy rpgs - if tou simply sped more time a day and work, kill more npcs...) I think it would be great improvement if you can speed up your learning by paying for "more intense hardwiring" or something like that. Or it could be something like now you are hardwiring skills X% more effectively (faster) so your brain is overwhelmed so you can't controll your ship to your full potencial ( less speed, dmg, ...) Something like that, or any other way to learn faster, but action way ist the most proper way.
Another idea, making pvp kill somehow less "destructive" ( financialy...) for victim and more profitable for winner, for example chance of leaving some module intact as in other games where there is a chance of item drop.

Well, I think all that already exist...
Implants increase attributes and cost tons of isk if you want good ones.
When a ship is destroyed in PvP, there's a wreck, you can loot from it.
The hardwiring learning increase would not mean much as your skills upgrade while you're away, you would activate it as you are away and deactivate it while you're playing, it means people that play less gains more SP. It is totally the wrong way. I'm not saying people always playing should get more, but that all players are equal interms of learning. It's the same learning time for someone that can't spend all day on eve but has enough isk to buy implants and someone who spends all day on eve. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! That is exactly what I hate in those other games. If you aren't "fast enouhg" or not able or willing to sacrifice the same amount of your life time as others you fall back.
In EVE this is imply not the case, at least not regarding skill training and character advancement and that is perfect as it is.
Sure, I will always fall behind those people who started a year or more before me but I think it is ok that way.

The fasteri wiring could be damaging to your ship control and expensive at the same time so players that are away would have money for it unless they are heavilly sponsored by other char - and that is a sacrifice of something (money) from that other char.
The thing that a new player can never reach old player that playis briefly is really not fair.

Edited by: 45thtiger011 on 13/06/2007 01:46:09 given the expense, the only chars i can see using this are alts, and char being trained up for sale |

Well they already gave people 800k SP compared to the 100k ish ( i think i had 80k actually) the older players got when creating characters, that must be like 1 month of training with starting attributes... As always, don't try to fix something that isn't broken. Realtime training is one of the things that makes EVE special, implants are more than enough to boost your skill training.

Back in the day you were lucky to get 80k, i started out at about 50k or so, just enough to fly a shuttle.
If ya want faster sp training train your learning skillz up and invest in +5 plantz.

Yes it is, the older player has been playing longer and therefore has more skills, if peeps could catch him up it wouldn't be fair, then all the time he has invested in his character would become worthless...
And anyway having lots of skill points really doesn't matter, as long as you've got the right skills you can be up to fully combat capable within 3 months and on an equal footing with most peeps within a year.
All lots of skills gives you is the ability to be able to fly lots of different ships and use lots of different things, not all of them at once.
Out of my 20 million skill points (which its taken me ~2 years to get) I'd say I only use 10 mil at any one time, the rest of them just mean that when i can afford one i can fly a hac or a recon, but don't really make all that much difference if you face me in bs.
People need to stop worrying about how there are peeps who will always be ahead of them and need to start worrying about making themselves as effective as posible in the field they have decided to pursue...

The fact that skills can only be trainined to level 5 makes this statement entirely wrong.
implants make a huge difference and are only available to people with reasonable ammounts of isk, in most cases, this meens people that play alot.
Older players that dont use implants will be overtaken eventually.
