The bug works like following
Get a general freight container Assemble it Double click to open up cargo Repackage it Cargo window remains open (possibly Jita lag) Drag an item into the cargo window for the now repackaged container
The item disappears from your hangar but doesn't go anywhere.
This has been rather expensive to me so far. Please fix and reimburse. |

Messed around with it some more.
Follow the above steps to generate a contents tab for a repackaged general freight container.
You can then reassemble the general freight container and open its contents as a new empty tab. The old tab remains open as a container tab which is linked to a general freight container which no longer exists. You can then repackage the general freight to create yet another independent container tab which doesn't connect to anything and then reassemble the general freight container etc...
Any item dragged into the tab will disappear, it'll still show 0 items in the container and the icon for the item won't appear. However if you enter the name of the item into the search at the top right of the contents of the tab for the container that doesn't exist then the item will suddenly appear and be draggable back into your hangar.
However this cannot be used to recover lost items. Each one of the non existent containers is unique. I took a general freight container, assembled, opened contents, repackaged, dragged into contents (item disappeared), search functioned the contents (item reappeared) and then closed that contents tab. When I made a new one from the exact same general freight container (assembled, opened contents, repackaged) then I couldn't find the item while searching. It was stuck in the contents of a general freight container which didn't exist and I couldn't find a way to recover a link to it in the UI. |

Confirming that this bug exists, I used a large standard container for my test. |

This is a bug which is extremely easy to replicate, should be easy enough to prevent and in my case should be simple enough to reimburse what I lose due to it. I imagine the logs of what I moved to the container exist, the game still thinks there is a container with stuff in it, there is simply no way of opening it in the UI. About 10 billion isk of my trading stock disappeared this way and I am finding it very difficult to continue my operations. Could a dev comment on this as a matter of priority, if only to say "tested, could replicate, you will get your stuff back once we find out wtf happened"? It takes approximately a minute to test and replicate this bug. |

+1 to the above
I have just submitted my petition for this exact issue.
Mine was a GSC worth of Tech 2 fitings i was moving for transport
I have also replicated the bug using ammo as a test. It is as described.
A speedy resolution and replacement of my items would be most appreciated |

Bug exists and has already been fixed internally. Not entirely sure at this point when the fix will be deployed.
Can't answer with certainty at this point how easy it is for GM's to dig up / reimburse items, but it's certainly doable by db-dudes and devs. Go ahead and petition it, I'm sure we can figure it out.

First of all, the client will close the window when you repackage the container it refers to. 2nd, the server it will disallow adding stuff into items that have been trashed (repackaging actually trashes the container and creates a new one). Repackaging a container with items inside should not be possible in any case.
Since I'm posting here already. If you petition such an issue, make sure you include the owner of the container, the exact type of the container in question and on which day you repackaged it. It makes searching for the item that much easier :)

Sorry, I'm not a GM, so, I can't comment on that.

asap i hope,
I bet some ppl will not even noticing it, and searching every corner then had lying around and swore they put it somewhere then it will ring a bell if they find this topic and making it for u easy, because they don't know the time/date
Now i just lost a mil in items (T1 junk), and noticing now this topic about the issue....
I hope for CCP, they are logging, by default, ALL the items disappearing in to the repacked open containers and automatically return it.

I lost a GSC's worth of faction/t2 ammunition and some t2 modules (100-200mill approx?) due to this bug, about 2 weeks ago. I've petitioned the lost items but there has still been no answer from anyone at CCP. |

Its been a solid two weeks now and still not heard a thing....
I've even added messages of exactly what time, what container, etc to try and make the process a bit easier.
Someone's gotta start looking at these.... |
