Heya,
Im currently npcing in 0.0 in a taranis. And i was wondering what the effect of a small nos would be. I heard from various sources that it decreases the npc bs' tank. But im not sure..
Basicly i can choose between 2 setups.
current use: high 3 x ion light II 1 x diminishing nos med: 1mn mwd II x5 web Cap charger low: small rep II mag stab II MAPC
Alternative: High: 3 x light neutron II med: 1mn AB/MWD II x5 web cap charger lows: small rep II 2 x mag stab II'
In the first setup i killed an officer spawn. I want to know if its possible in the second setup too...

the nos will let you have a sustainable setup, but i dont think it affects a lot the tanking of npc's... -----------------------------

Basically:
NPC ships have 2 capacitors.
One is infinite. It powers their weapons and EW, and some of their repping abilities (assume they always use passive mods for their resists). You can't touch this cap.
The other is not infinite. It is not very big, and a few cycles of equivalent nos and it's gone (equiv being small for frigs, med for cruisers, etc).
This second cap, once it gets low/gone, starts to interfere with the NPC's rep frequency. Left alone, the NPC will rep constantly forever, but if you nos it, sometimes it misses a rep cycle and doen't rep that time, hence, you break it's tank faster. The maths behind this is all very nebulous, I couldn't give you any hard numbers.
Also, obviously, draining their cap boosts yours, until their cap is gone, in which case it doesn't.
In your situation, i'd use the neutrons. You'll need the dps to chew through some of those heavier BS spawns.

I am killing a triple 1.5m spawn with the ion setup atm, So more dps will only make it go faster which aint a bad thing
But if the nos does infact reduce rep cycles than i should keep it i think, otherwise i wont ever be able to break the really heavy SS and officer spawns...
Gues ill just swap my mwd for an Ab and buy a good MApc and throw on as much neutrons as i can :)

UNLESS ofcourse the Dps increase is so big that it is still better than the reduced bs tank...

Bear in mind that your little frig-sized nos is going to have little to no effect on a cruiser, BC or BS sized capacitors. The most you can ask of it is that it regens your cap a tiny bit. It won't affect their tank at all.

It wont reduce their tank at all? I thought it did reduce their tank. More like a fixed value than that nos size mattered.. But that doesnt really make sense if you think about it.. i gues ill just try the setup :)

You only get 3 cycles from NPC, so how does that affect anything, especialy with small nos...

Depends on your school of thought but I've never been taught to use a NOS/Neut on a PvE setup. As others have described it only gives you a tiny bit of cap and its not making a significant impact on the NPC tank. Therefore, I'd rather fit an extra turret or something up top (assuming it'll fit) to chew through NPCs much faster than getting maybe a cycle or two of cap from the NOS and then nothing after that.
I think if you're desperately counting on the NOS to hold your tank then maybe you should rethink your tanking setup for the rats you are fighting. ----------------------------------------- Don't submit to stupid rules Be yourself and not a fool Don't accept average habits Open your heart and push the limits |
