About 24 hours ago, I was suddenly unable to get on any of the Iceland based EVE assets from any of my computers at home. The weird thing is, I could get on the "public" portions of the EVE-online website, or the chaos server, or pretty much anything else on the internet. I could not access the tranquility server (in iceland), or any of the secure portions of the eve-online website including the forums and character information (id assume because they access the servers in iceland to verify account information). I traced the route and it was dieing (or being blocked) at the thameside.net router between london and iceland, and couldnt go any further.
THe REALLY weird thing is that I just unplugged my DLink router/switch and plugged my broadband connection directly into a 2nd network card on my laptop, and I can now access everything as normal (which is how im posting this). Has anyone else had this problem ? Im wondering if CCP is now using some different port numbers or something to communicate now and thats why I cant get in with my router plugged in (because they are using port numbers that are currently blocked).

You just identified the issue right there. If one nic works but another doesn't then you need to look at the nic that isn't working.
In your case, you have a router which you didn't plug into your second nic. Honestly, I'd suspect the router first. Try power cycling it. Another thing to do would be to try the original nic that was plugged into the router by plugging it straight into the broadband connection. =============== Killboard: http://www.celeskills.com

I'm having a similar problem. I can see everything on the website and I can see the chaos server. TQ, on the other hand, reports as being down and I can not connect to it. That is a major bug which I haven't been able to solve. Any thoughts???

its not a hardware issue with a router it might be a temporary problem (route / server down) or a firewall problem on your end.
i.e. port 80 is open - websurfing no problem the eve-ports (probably >1024) are perhaps closed.
I would dig into that direction.
just my opion, but i usually get payed for that kind of analysis. (but usually i would request also details)

I get this exact same problem from time to time, I can connect to the test server and the public website but cannot connect to TQ, or the HTTPS protected parts of www.eve-online.com.
I'm using a Dlink router as well and bypassing it allows me to connect again. After about 24 hours I can use the router again, with no changes done on my end other than bypassing the router and going back through it again.
My bet is the session from the router somehow gets "stuck" or blocked in the loadbalancer in front of the cluster and the https site is behind the same loadbalancer. Now if I remember my Tcp/Ip correctly there's no way the loadbalancer can see the hardware mac address of my router/bypass nic, and they have the same ip so it's not an address based "filter". My guess is there's something in the "signature" of NAT packets from dlink routers that freak the loadbalancer out and block connects with this signature. Probably the protection they implented a while back to defend against the denial of service attacks is now hitting us Dlink users.
Support has as usual been very helpful regarding this issue. To be fair I don't think there's much the petition handlers can do about this but the communication between the various tiers of support seem to stink real bad.

Tranquillity, I am told, is in London. |
