Edited by: Lord Frost on 15/06/2007 15:07:22 Rigs are great, except for the fact they are not quite cost effective on t1 frigs, cruisers, destroyers... so I'm proposing this...
Keep the build requirements the same for all rigs, but let each run output 3 rigs. Then make rig slots like permanent ammo slots. Small t1 ships would take 1 rig to fit, medium ships take 2 rigs, and large ships take 3 rigs. If they are t2 ships, its slightly more.
T1 ships (3 slots on each) 1 rig - frigs, destroyers 2 rigs - cruisers, battlecruisers, industrials, barges 3 rigs - battleships
T2 ships (2 slots on each) 2 rigs - ceptors, interdictors, covert ops, assault frigs 3 rigs - hacs, logistics, recons, transports, exhumers 4 rigs - carriers and above?
So... example... you can build normally a rig like you do today with the same parts needed, but you get 3 rigs. Which you can use to fit 1 each on 3 frigs, or maybe all 3 on 1 slot of a battleship... or 3 in 1 hac slot.
Basically, we're just giving the smaller less expensive ships a part of the current whole rig as it is now, by producing 3 rigs per bp run.
As always... you can thanks me later.

Not very relevant. A rifter costs 300k... not many rigs cost less than 10m at the moment.
It is better to add different rig types for different ship sizes. A frigate isn't 1/2 a cruiser or 1/3 a battleship...

You can get the bits to make rigs for free, the BPOs are loose change.
Make your own.

no, getting components or minerals yourself is not free... --

Not relevant? Comparing to the cost of ships, the use of ships, and just the pvp/npc impact of ships... frigs and cruisers are in need of loving.
Adding different rig types for different ships sizes is too straining, too complicated in an already complicated environment. I dont think anyone wants 3 or more bpos of the same rig in different sizes. thats too much to ask for.
My plan works... you can thank me later.

They are if you salvage your own rat wrecks.
As for the OP... my thought on the subject is that you should only be allowed to fit a single rig of particular kind (i.e. only 1 Core Defence Field Purger, and not three). As I understand the concept behind rigs, they are intended to modify your ship in a subtle way... not create potentially game breaking ships based on their inclusion. Drake anyone? Yes I do fly one too.

nope. the stuff you mine or salvage yourself costs exactly the market value because of opportunity costs. it is not for free because you give up the profit you could get from selling it at market prices. it's true you never really had the money, but a lost profit automatically is costs. --

Looting faction gear yourself does not make it any less valuable. Nor does salvaging your own components make rigs any cheaper. You still lose a multi-million dollar piece of equipment when it is destoryed.

Wow. Ore is free too. It just floats around. Everything in EVE is FREE OMG!
Back to the OP, it's a decent idea. I was thinking about this the other day. Rigs should cost less for t1 frigs than for, say, battleships. Your idea seems to do that, but it'll never happen...

Well, if you ask me, it should be something like this... each rig "run" yields 10 units, and each rig takes only 0.50m volume.
T1 frigs/destroyers/industrials/barges need 1 rig per slot. T2 frigs/destroyers need 2 rigs per slot. T2 industrials/barges need 3 rigs per slot. T1 cruisers need 3 rigs/slot. T2 cruisers 4 rigs/slot. T1 BCs need 4 rigs/slot. T2 BCs 5 rigs/slot. T1 BSs need 6 rigs/slot. Cap ships need 10 rigs/slot.
You can only fit a full "stack" of rigs, as required by the ship. All current rig reserves get a x10 multiplication. Existing rigs on non-capital ships "spawn" the difference in rigs in the hangar they're in, or if in space, in the cargohold of the fited ship (even above max allowed cargohold value). _ New char creation guide | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |
