Are these ships Viable as a carear path?
though my charicter started as a trader, the idea of leadership and corp skills look like a good blend for his social skills (Pew Pew combat realy isn't my thing) so the question is, are logistic ships a good benifit to a corp fleet ?

Logistics ships can be a wonderful asset in combat, but that assumes two things:
1. Your fleet understand that you are flying a thin, relatively defenseless ship and thus they make it a priority to protect you, and 2. "Fleet warfare" does not equal a blob of ships with no apparent command structure.
However, one ship that is probably more useful (though that is certainly debateable) than a logistics ship is a command ship. Flying such a ship would, of course, involve more combat, but they are really nice ships to have and I, for one, really appreciate them.

With certain specific strategies and the coming of the changes in Rev II, Logistic ships are very powerful.
Something else to consider, they're on the training path towards Fleet command ships (the less combat oriented ones that can run more warefare link modules).
The downside to doing a Fleet command ship over a Field command ship is that you then want to train up more leadership skills, so you can run the warfare link mods, and unless you have a good Charisma, which most PVP pilots do not, then its a very very long training tree.

Edited by: Imperator Jora''h on 16/06/2007 15:10:47 Logistics ships are getting a welcome boost soon. The following was posted by CCP Fendahl in a very recent Dev Blog:
Quote: Logistics
Logistic Cruisers have also received some much needed attention. One of the main issues was that it was possible to shoehorn in large shield transporters on the Basilisk and Scimitar, but not large remote repair systems on the Guardian and Oneiros. The Logistics now get fitting bonuses to logistic modules, standardized logistic bonuses and increased lock range, which allows them to fit a full rack of large logistics modules in order to repair faster and at longer range. Additionally the drone bays have been expanded; they get a repair bonus to maintenance bots for short range logistic support (or close range defense if you are so inclined) and the base resists have been increased to HAC levels.
Another issue was the general imbalance between Shield Transporters and Remote Armor Repair Systems: Shield Transporters were more cap efficient and Armored Warfare Links did not affect Remote Armor Repair Systems. The Armored Warfare Links have been fixed and armor Repair Systems now have a shorter cycle of 5 seconds and require 10% less cap than the shield transporters, since that transfer at the end of the cycle rather than the beginning.
And while what the previous poster said about Command Ships is true it is a LOT harder to train up to a Command Ship. Not saying don't do it...they are sweet ships...just be aware of that (in fact for Fleet Command Ships one of the reqs is Logistics-4 among many other reqs). So Logistics is not only a faster path to helping a group out it is even a step on the path to Command Ships.
EDIT: Oh yeah...be prepared that Logistics are often a first primary target in most battles. The changes above should help them some but be prepared to get shot up a lot. The enemy will fall over itself trying to kill you ASAP. That's ok really but if you get bent out of shape over losing ships you should consider it.

Thanks for info guys, think I shall start on this path after all, I fully understand the prime target and all it comes with (especialy after so long as a Daoc healer and a Wow priest)
Ships get blown up, it's a fact of eve, though I guess a smart corp would weighthe benefits over price and help to replace the ship (if not then hey, theres always a smarter corp who will see the value of such a ship)
as for leadership skills and high cha, also not too much of a problem, as i chose a very balanced starting stats, add that to me being a starting trader = tidy cha..
This will all take along time to come to plan, but thats the beauty of eve, time is a comodity we have plenty of.
that info on logistic changes is great too ta.

Logistics ships are extremely good value in group PvE. Generally speaking, they're less valuable in PvP, because the enemy tends to get rid of them before they can do a lot in the way of boosting their allies. However, they're getting a boost in the patch, so things are looking good for logistics ships.
