Salvaging added a lot to the game. I like to salvage. However, there is a playability issue that needs to be addressed by the Developer community.
It happens that sometimes one is salvaging and NPC rats or PC rats appear and start attacking. I've lost 3 good and really expensive ships due to a combination of lag and/or misplaced key/mouse strokes, by accidentally shooting at the wreck in empire space.
All 3 times it's been in a "larger" ship loaded with heavy missiles. By the time i can react to rectify the issue, the missiles are away and Concord is on the scene turning me to red mist.
What's the problem? Usually the wrecks are not specifically "owned" by my salvaging toon. In all 3 instances I've been ganged up with my other 2 characters (yes I pay for 3 accounts) mining. The NPC rats were killed with combat drones from the miners. After depleting the belt, I swap out my industrial for my escort/salvager and return to the belt to salvage the wrecks.
The GM that replied to my petitions (I can't find an in-game way to send a suggestion to the DEVs) explained, each time, that I got concorded because the wreck did not "belong" to me, but a gang-member, and that this was correct gameplay designed to address "in-gang scamming".
All this is well and good, but these events have all occurred when rats spawned and I either fumble-moused the warning screen or lag caught an extra click or keystroke and there goes 100+ million ISK at the hands of the law-dogs.
Suggestion: Perhaps in the General Options screen there could be an OPTION to turn off the "in-gang no shootem other gang-members wrecks" rule. Hell, make it a unanimous option all the gang characters have to have set.
Or maybe another kind of "targeting" just for salvaging.
It just seems to me to be too damn easy to get Concorded for no reason, and some steps could easily be taken to avoid this situation. It may be hard to envision, but some of us players just like to peacefully mine/manufacture and train up our skills and not get all aggressive PvP etc. much less spend our time scamming other players.
How's about a tweak to assist us care-bears?

If your chars are in the same corp, you won't get concorded if you shoot their wrecks accidentally.

What's wrong with turning on the warning that asks you if you're sure you want to do something that will get you concorded?
I just leave the warning on.

A very simple workaround: while salvaging, drag all your weapon icons onto the mid/low slot rack so that you need to press something like alt/ctrl + f1 to activate them rather than just f1. You can do this regardless of the slot layout of your ship. You also become less likely to click on the wrong icon by accident. ------ Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant tanking |

I fully support the OP in the call to nerf Concord, as well as the idea of being able to shoot useless crap floating around in space (Such as those tens of thousands of secure cans anchored in high-sec)

How about fitting a Salvaging Destroyer together for about 6m and stop using 100m ships to Salvage?

So...if you're in high-security space, how exactly can you be attacked by pirates? <sig> IBTL! IBDS! IBTC! 1st in a BoB Post! And other such forum tom-foolery. Join my Corporation! |

Dont fit guns on salvage ships. Thats really the only thing that can be done, anybody can accidentally shoot something that will get them concorded. _______________ Rokh vs. Hyperion |

Yep, this is the best advice you can get.
I needed to pick up some expensive modules and had 1 salvager fitted to my fast frigate while picking it up. Reason is that usually you see the occasional wreck at a gate so I thought I could salvage them while traveling.
On my return trip, full of expensive modules, I pressed the wrong module and Concord was not agreeing that I tried to web the wreck. POOF.
Since then, I never put any offensive module on a salvaging ship in empire. I don't use the warning as I spend most of my time in lowsec and I can't afford the delay it would give me.
On top of this... how would you feel if you wouldn't even get your insurance for your ship after Concord blasts you out of space? There's a big group of players that would like to see that implemented.

In high sec, you shouldn't need to worry about PC pies and if you get all your characters into the same corp the "shooting someone else's wreck" thing ceases to be an issue.
My mission salvaging ship is a Vexor with three tractors and two salvagers high. If for some reason I'm salvaging before the mission is closed in a room with belts, I've got drones to kill any system level appropriate rats.
When I'm mining, my hauler alt fits a salvager high and relies on my barge's drones for protection against rat spawns.
If I'm ratting, my ratting ship has a salvager and I'm someplace where Concord isn't an issue.

lol
they should be more careful with what they do and not expect ccp to make a fix to stop them from doing silly mistakes.
