Can someone explain to me the procedure for putting up a cyno. I was under the impression you have to fire the cyno device for a period of time then a field is produced which someone can jump to. However - It seems you can launch a cyno instantly? Is this correct?

what i am more intrigued about is why cynosural fields are called that, as cyno means dog...

You activate the module and the cyno fires immediately. Your other gang member then does his thing and jumps through. You can then deactivate the module, but you are basically stuck there until it deactivates (I think it takes the entire 600 sec duration).

A Cynosure is either something that provides guidance, or something that is a center of attention.
Hence, if something is cynosural, it provides guidance and/or attracts attention.
Apply it to a Cynosural field, which happens to provide guidance, and attract the attention of everyone in local, and you're pretty spot on
