Can we have an option to get rid of the splash screen at startup, sometimes when I start up I find Eve tends to hang, even after a fresh reboot.
So its most annoying when your reading the forums and cant see anything past it.
Also sometimes when I start up my 2nd account to help haul you cant see anything incoming because of the big splash screen. And again at times Eve tends to hang and even have to right click and "End Task" 2 or 3 times before it finally loads.
I know my system has load of "unsused" progammes like Worldcraft, Milkshapes...etc but its not that bad...yet
Or maybe its just my 1.16GB Cache Folder

Most of the time the splash screen is used by applications to show you something while they load some heavy objects or data behind the scenes.
The fact you hang during its display would indicate that something in your pre-load failed. Getting rid of the splash screen means you would have a long pause after you launched EVE where nothing evident is occuring, and that would most likely fail as well because whatever problem you have will not be solved by getting rid of the eye candy.

One big problem would be solved indeed.
I would see whats on my screen. See, theres nothing more stupid, annoying, idiothic, eogistic, etc.. like a program that starts with a fullscreen always on top window.
Its annoying enough always having to accept the stupid terms of use form. (they are all the same anyway) Even if i take the time to read it for the first time, why do i have to accept it again and again?
Summarized:
i loved the spash screen, but now its only boring and annoying that i cant use my computer for the 15-30 seconds eve loads. You could do a lot of things in 30 seconds.
Get rid of it, make it smaller or simply turn off that stupid always on top flag.

The splash screen itself doesnt really take much system resources, its really just 183.3k jpg picture [\evedir\res\splatt2.jpg]. It¦s as Domaru said, it just something to show meanwhile all the other stuff loads. I suppose you could change it if you dont like it but iam afraid that would really be all you could do.

Implementing a real dmg bar would be nice, anyone playing anarchy online will know what i mean, but instead of using the chat bar like in AO there could be a dmg bar that does a log of the dmg made; splash, missle, drone, weapondmg ect. using different colours would make it very easy to understand and it would replace the totally useless dmg bar we have now

I agree with this. Applications shouldn't put obstacles in front of the user. It's one thing if it's not "always on top", since the *user is in control* and decide whether to view the nice pic or not (and go read email or open some other Eves, apps, etc)
To bypass this violation of sound UI design, have you tried replacing it with a 1x1 jpeg? Perhaps that solves this aspect.
Please note, when I upgraded to 1360, I had to restore the old splashy, because the 5x5 jpeg I had failed the checksum test :)

Just rename "splatt2.jpg" to something else and it wont appear.

Yes its very annoying when you have 2 eve and start the other one because then the splash screen someones be there 1 min or more depending on the lag
And meanwhile i cant to anything on the other Eve so allways on top on the splash should be removed imo
