amazingly enough, most players in other MMO's are actually less savvy and mature then the overall EVE community.
scary huh?

Welcome to EvE. To allay your fears, most of EvE isn't like that, but as with any community, you tend to hear about stuff like that more often than when everything goes well
One of the strengths of EvE is that it's so player driven. There's no set path so you'll see a lot of people doing a lot of different things, and some of them may include corp thieving and pirating. ___

I've played a fair few mmo's in my time. In my experience they all have their fair share of idiots and lamers who'll do anything for a quick gank etc. Eve is generally more mature then other mmo's because well it takes itself more seriously, don't see any dancing dwarves around here now do ya hehe.
And yeah there is pleanty of the "zomgz you got totally pw3nd!!1!!one!" on the forums for them too. Trust me when I say Eve is the best mmo out there for player base, dev team and content tbh.

EVE is the hardest and most challenging MMO I have had the pleasure of playing.
- If you die, it hurts. You lose your ship, your modules, and your pride.
- The time you dedicate really does matter. EVE is not about the quickest reflexes or the best hand-eye co-ordination. It's skill, tactics and quick thinking.
- It's huge. No other MMO offers the variety that EVE does.
Anarchy Online, Everquest, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online... Utter garbage IMO. --- The Internet... Where men are men, women are men, and anybody under 18 is an FBI agent. |

Edited by: Kilostream on 19/06/2007 17:35:15 Yeah,
The range of ages of eve players surprised me - I thought I would be at the older end of the player range, but I know plenty of players 10, 15 and more years older than me as well as younger.
I think the thing with mmo's is whilst you take on a 'character' in game you also get to express yourself, so I think people will behave in similar ways across other mmo's.
To go with your specific example of the corp getting robbed - there's two parties involved in this - you are only supposed to think about the mean corp robber and how nasty his actions are when people tell you about stuff like that. What often gets overlooked is that the tools are available to corp officers to prevent stuff being stolen (roles, lockdown and so on).
So yeah there are corp robbers out there, but if you are a switched on kiddie you can keep the stuff you don't want to risk safely enough.
And the 'lol you got wtfpwned' brigade? - well they are usually 14 year old kids who love to poke fun at anything and everything while they're still too small to get punched for it!! and I think you will encounter them in many other walks of life besides mmo's!

The eve community is about the worse of the mmo's I've played. Debates ( I use that term loosely ) tend to get childish. Most the players tend to love the ability to kick sand in the face of others and dare to be held accountable for thier actions. I tend to think of the Universe as a Mad Max in space. You just take it for granite that folks are corrupt. Good acting folk are the exception ( players that want to do good to others ), not the rule. I quit a while back due to losing 750 mill isk hulk since I was a carebear then.
Let's face it, it PvP.
With that said, a friend talked me into coming back since he said things were fixed and ships were cheaper. Well, things are not fixed ( never will be, /me shrugs ) but ships are cheaper. With that in mind, I've gone from a carebear miner only building ships to doing level 4 missions solo and joining in PvP gang running.
Why do I play, because I miss Earth and Beyond. I liked the more PvE play it had. When folks say highsec space should always be risky, they may be right but they can also be so wrong. That's one thing this game is, it's always different. I really can't say it's the best game, it's not since it's never the same. Whiners ruin things so easy in this game.
CCP wants something to resemble anarchy. But that is fun for the anarchy type players, something like sport fanatics. They don't make sense, they will keep kissing someones else behind since they hooked.
I'm a geek, I'm hooked on the math behind this game and playing in PvP without is being shoved down my throat. Also, it resembles elements of another great game, EoB. Best PvP game was Dark Age of Camelot. Guilds ( Corps ) were like family there. In Eve, Corps live and die faster then yesterday's headlines. There are exceptions, but they are not the rules.
It's anarchy in space, it's dark and the players mirror that play style. It's kill or be killed. Band together but expect to be backstabbed. Fortunely, I have players I know in real-life so I have buddies I can trust. But we're mostly Carebears. Eve is not aimed at those players and CCP has reinforced that. Best game, hardly. But I play mostly PvE. If they continue to remove options, I'll leave. Nice thing is there is always something better out there.
Btw CCP, fix the drones....
